UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Sorry zoofer , I was being a dick sore loser
Further proof you are a Genuine Good Guy. How would you like to be a NoDak fan this morning, waking up with a 0.6 second hangover? I enjoyed the BC/Union game more.

And though I've never been to Schenectady, I'm rooting for the Dutchmen -- I don't buy into the "No team shall win a first title until UNH has done it" mentality.
I tend to favor the underdog -- hope the Dutchmen get their first tomorrow. Minny has enough trophies for now.

Still cannot root for for BC, but I think that nearly all colleges and universities are tax exempt, whether public or private, secular or non-secular, big or small. Part of the reason that faculty usually cannot afford to live in college/university towns; in the case of UNH, even the towns surrounding Durham have wicked high housing prices, and some of the highest property taxes anywhere. All of that tax exempt property puts most of the tax burden on the residents.
I tried, but couldn't do it. BC's first goal I smiled, thought here we go. When Union scored I involuntarily raised my hands and said "Yes!". From there on it was my head rooting for BC, but emotionally I was all Union.

M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A!

Couldn't help thinking last night that if we had that Vekeyoney (sp?) kid instead of Borque or Kelleher then we'd be playing for the national championship tomorrow, right? ;)

BWAH-HA-HA-HA!!!:) :) Nah, we would need both Vekeyoney and Johnny Goodrow (sp?) ;) to have any shot at a Natty. :p :D

I can't believe I'll be rooting for the Maroon & Gold team to win another D-1 title tomorrow night. :D

And, Joey Leleggia, DU D-man dissed by UNH Admissions.

I cannot root for the Gophers either; still suffering nightmares from NC game in Buffalo. And, I am still mad at the Dutchmen for breaking TvR's leg. So, I am rooting against both teams.

Hey, but no matter which of these teams wins, our SOS gets a huge bounce up! :-)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Now with BC out of the way, the cesspool that is Schenectady can open up wide and swallow Union whole.

You've had your moment in the sun. Now go away. No way, two consecutive ECAC D-1 national champions ...

Yeah what is up with that? has the ECAC gotten that good, or has the college landscape leveled out over the past few years? I won't profess to watch UNH like I did 10 years ago, but having actually caught some games this year, I can't say I was wowed like back in the day. Sure, it might be nostalgia and being spoiled by the Boston Bruins play..but it seemed as if UNH struggled to string a few wins together against average teams.

When Union beat BC last night, I couldn't help but notice the symbolism in the win. The Union coach looked 20 years younger than Jerry york. It felt like the torch had been passed onto the next generation. York and the BC Eagles played a phenomenal game, no doubt. But after a period of prosperity and decadence, comes the inevitable fall from grace. I imagine there is some of this sentiment on the UNH side at this point? I noticed that virtually all the UNH coaching staff is the same when I went there in 1999.

Being so far removed from the college game, it has been an entertaining playoffs. Tomorrow's game aught to be entertaining as well!

First off, thanks for the good laugh Sterlippo1....not that I upset you but I could tell in rereading my remarks that I was the upset one when writing that! And I appreciate the discussion points Snively65....obviously your more well versed in the subject than I....as for who wins the NC, I'll go with letting NY be the college hockey capital this year, seeing as how Clarkson won the women's title....and with UNH being in the. ECAC back in my days, heck let's let them have their year! As has been noted here, I just find it hard to root for any college with the maroon and gold! And yes Sterlippo1, it's just the school thing, not the kids....

With other BC graduations, opens the door ever so slightly for some other teams next season?

I'd imagine standing room tickets for the 2015 HE Quarters go on sale Monday morning at Schneider Arena.

Oops, I think that I am wrong. Gophers need to win tonight for UNH to move up in SOS, as Union is ranked a woeful 19th in SOS (although no. 2 in PWR now). If Gophers win, perhaps UNH can leap frog Notre Dame, UVM, and Duluth, but probably not Penn State, from 6th to 3rd in SOS. Would give us more bragging rights over the summer.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Being a Libra I am very conflicted about who to "root for" tonight...just can't let go of Jan 18 but guess I'll have to coz I do think Union is a great hockey team. But who cares anyhoo..haha good luck Gophers!!!

ps Had to be in the Boston/ Worcester area last night and today so hubby and I went to see Kevin Goumas play at the DCU center ...he did well had a couple of great shots on goal. Other UNH players in attendance too Wyer and a couple others. They lost 4-1 but it was fun just the same...

I'm beginning to think that Umile's contention that "we want to play the best teams" hurt UNH this year more than helped them:(

Still don't know who I want to win this game. I like underdogs but don't like the fact that there might be another first time winner before UNH!@#&&$'"

Why do you say that? Why wish to deny other teams the chance to get their first title? Clearly, I'd prefer UNH wins the next national title, but until that happens, somebody has to win, and I'd rather it be a team that has never won it, rather than a team (such as UND, Minny, BC, Wisco, etc.) who have done it many times. And as far as I'm concerned, Maine could never win another title, and it would still be too soon, even though they have two*.

So Yale and now Union have captured their first NCAA championship. . . why the F can't UNH ever go on a run like that? Frustrating.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

well its called having an excellent coach and getting 110% out of your players.

I know. . . it was a rhetorical question.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Not so rhetorical....first off you get rid of an Admissions Director who doesn't allow quality players in to the program...then you get rid of an AD who during his reign has seen the hockey program falter to the point where an always sold out Whitt cannot fill the house for Michigan or Notre Dame!! Maybe then you can get some puck luck....I know your enjoy a Umile fan 1982, but he still does well with the players he's given....IMHO
