Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Oh please, give it a rest.

If you want to be upset at why your "UNH career" was ended, look in the mirror.

To blame the press is just SO cliche. Must be preparing for fending off swarms of reporters in Wheeling WV.

You just apparently got re-admitted to the school. What "damage" there??

The righteous indignation coming through the press release (?) really strikes a sour note, at least for me.

Im summary ... you got drunk, you acted up (and acted badly), you probably assaulted your (now ex-)girlfriend, you got arrested, and by all accounts you handled that REALLY badly. And now you want US to think of YOU as the *victim*??

Cue the slander/libel lawsuits against his ex, the police AND the media for "immeasurable" damages. Nice.

And I was almost ready to believe there was some contrition there. Guess not. See ya in the 'Coast.

P.S. - not that he's happy about this, but this certainly confirms Coach Umile made the right decision.
This is Casey's "he said" in response to his girl friend at the time's "she said". There was enough evidence for a very favorable plea bargain. If you were part of Casey's family or a trusted advisor what strategy would you have suggested? Plead guilty? Quit school? Become a recluse? Spend the remainder of your life moaning about what might/should have been?

It is unlikely we'll ever know one way or the other, but my money is on no "slander/libel lawsuits" of any type against anybody.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Ummm so it's typical that hockey players having fun include resisting arrest, beating up someone (Lomberg from what I've read on the Maine board). Gee things have sure changed since I went to college!
Not since I did. Times have definitely changed.

The only thing I find really unusual about this is naming another person (Willows) in a school newspaper article...that's not ok to me but whatever. Sure both sides need to be heard but really talking about another student like that? In a school newspaper? What's her side? And did I not read that "he admitted to assaulting a woman" in the Seacoast article and here pleads "not guilty" ; which is it? Yea that's the plea bargain stuff and you are right - we'll never know so to coin last years UNH graduation speaker Jennifer Lee "let it go".

Just the facts ma'am. Thorough reporting. The writer, if a journalism major, is making his professors proud.

I agree; totally self-absorbed behavior, to say the least. Maybe I will be able to catch some scores when passing through LAX later tonight, and maybe even Sydney or Christchurch later this weekend before my internet silence begins.

Proud of what? It's certainly not balanced reporting...she doesn't get a chance to give her side of the story in this article. He gets to come out smelling like a rose while its pure conjecture that she ever told anything to Matt Willows. Just don't think that should appear in a college newspaper. Talk about a lawsuit waiting to happen. That's what I don't like about the whole thing. Honestly, at one point, I had "empathy" for him, I truly did. Not so much anymore. The whole thing reeks. Geesh. I said I'd let it go. :p Time to go to ManchVegas and here's hoping our skating 'Cats have a day of it! :D Go 'Cats and best wishes to you football fanatics out there! May all your dreams come true...beat those Chattanooga boys!

This is Casey's "he said" in response to his girl friend at the time's "she said". There was enough evidence for a very favorable plea bargain. If you were part of Casey's family or a trusted advisor what strategy would you have suggested? Plead guilty? No Quit school? No Become a recluse? No Spend the remainder of your life moaning about what might/should have been? No, but it seems like he's heading in that direction anyway

Good for him. You ask the question "If you were advising him on strategy, what would you suggest?" I'm pretty sure one of my suggestions would NOT have been to issue a whining, self-serving press release that blames everyone else (including the press, ironically) except himself. He was/is being given a chance to return to school, AND stay out of jail. Guess that wasn't good enough, now he wants to air "his side of the story" (guess what - no one cares anymore) and whine - oops - *inform* us about all of the "immeasurable damage" all these bad people have conspired to cause him.

Last week I'm reading "Letters to the Editor" about Victim #2 giving of his free time to tutor a young goalie (admirable, but in retrospect it's fair to ask whether perhaps that was another part of the *strategy* from his legal team??) and now he HAS to share "my side of the story" (again, no one cares anymore), all the while dragging a former teammate into the mire with him.

No wonder his teammates chose his back-up as an Alternate Captain last year, and didn't give him the same honor in advance of this season, when he was without question the most high-profile returning senior in the Men's Hockey program.

It is unlikely we'll ever know one way or the other, but my money is on no "slander/libel lawsuits" of any type against anybody.

If there is a lawsuit, there will be public record of same. And if you think a lawyer's letter looking to shake down the media, the local authorities and/or the ex-girlfriend won't hit the media within 24 hours of arrival at their intended target(s), then you are being very naive.

I will say this though, Darius ... your defense of the subject is the most reasoned of the two I've seen this afternoon. :)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Would you rather have guys who don't care whether they play for UNH or not? Relevance?? He has every right to be upset Why?? and it's amazing how much this situation is like what happened to Ryan Lomberg at Maine Who? and who cares?? . I think both were extremely hard done You're kidding, right? No - you're serious?? by the administration at their schools, media, and police. I'm sure you and others would say 'it's their fault for putting themselves in that position' Yes indeed it's their fault for putting themselves in that position but I think hockey players should be able to go out and have fun like any other college student Coach Umile apparently disagrees. It's not like they're getting paid or something like that. No, they're only getting a scholarship that's worth 6 figures to the rest of the world Hopefully moving forward we see college hockey players treated much more fair.Ha-ha, good one!!

I know it's Friday afternoon, so I'd only ask that if you have plans to go to the game tonight, please get someone to drive you there. Really. We'll start talks about taking up a collection for the poor abused hockey players next Monday, OK?

I made it up here successfully! Brilliant idea ;)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Here is the alternative that our former goalie decided not to pursue ... be thankful his legal team has apparently taken jail out of the equation, quietly return to the closest thing approaching a normal life as a student at UNH (which has apparently given him that opportunity), earn your degree (you were probably always going to need it anyway, let's be honest), apologize to all of your teammates for messing up their season with your personal indiscretions, and take the high road towards the rest of your life.

Instead, we get the incredibly immature need to vent in public ("he said/she said") - what's next, an appearance on the Jerry Springer Show? The People's Court, ferchrissakes?? A reality show with the Lomberg kid from UMaine???

You know what they say ... (to paraphrase) don't let others drag you into the mud, you'll both get dirty, and then they'll beat you with experience. Just not totally sure who did the dragging on this one - but you get the picture. There were never going to be any *winners* arising from this incident, and the sad part is most of us knew that ahead of time. Yet the former goalie just HAD to have the final say, and overall it's done more to harm him than to help him. Sad but true. Over and out.

Remember when a Maine UNH game was relevant? and people actually cared

I know. At least you guys can brag about the Civic Center getting sold out. The Verizon not so much. The UNH football game probably cutting into that but even if they weren't playing the Verizon wouldn't sell out.

Awesome. Football is being preempted by high school basketball on ESPN2. If you have WatchESPN it can apparently be seen there.

Edit: Not yet. WatchESPN app has the game upcoming, with hs squeakball live as on TV.

That's rediculus. I'm a Maine fan, but that won't stop me from rooting for UNH the rest of the way in football.
