Not a stellar 2nd period somewhat reminincent of last weekend hoping for some adjustments the 3rd. Ooops did I just jinx us? That Hutton is a great player. Out competed tonight plain and simple with 5 unanswered goals.Maine never ever let up kudos for the effort.

Defense looks terrible, giving up almost 350 yds in the first half. Seemed that the Cats have beat up on a bunch of crap teams this year and aren't really battle tested.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Is it too late to get a refund on our deposit for next year and finally put an end to this foolish regular season game in Manchester?

Why do you hate UNH fans who aren't from the seacoast? And doncha know that Manchester is exactly halfway between Durham and Hanover?

The UNH football game probably cutting into that but even if they weren't playing the Verizon wouldn't sell out.

So the D played much better in the second half, but still had trouble on 3rd and long. They're kind of reminding me of the Pats D in the past few years, giving up yards and relying on turnovers. Tonight, again, the lone turnover was arguably what gave the Cats the cushion to win. But what if, as with the Pats, they don't get turnovers?

Edit: D@mn, ESPN couldn't wait to cut away from Durham. So UNH wins...cut to Sports Center.

Congrats UNH Football!!! Happy for you guys!!!

Big big W against a good opponent!

UNH forced the turnover. C had to throw the ball at that point. You could see it coming.

That's a huge win!! Though you have to say that with 566 yards of offense, Chattanooga definitely won the SOG contest!!!

Say it ain't so! C coach was visibly frustrated. His kid played a great game but his Int killed 'em!

So, not only did we lose the (hockey) game, but we lost the SOG. Not a good omen for the next six weeks.

Hockey at UNH sucks right now including the women who are worse than the men. How's the club team doing? I think I'll start going to their games.

What a ****show of a game. A "Lowell-esque" loss to a crappy Maine team, made worse by the fact that I had loudmouthed Maine fans sitting in my section.
The Verizon venue ran its course a long time ago. Waste of money and waste of travel time, made worse by the fact that the "home" team plays like crap there.

My final 2 cents:

1. If you can't hold a two goal lead against a team with a worst record than yours you don't deserve to be on the ice.
2. Oh hey, and a big middle finger salute to the UNH team bus driver, who weaved his way through three lanes of traffic and cut me off to make the left turn lane onto 93 on the way home. Great M******* driving move....please share my middle finger gesture with the UNH coaching staff.

I'm outta here folks....see you next October when hopefully we have new coach running this team.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Sitting at the game tonight brought to mind a couple of my favorite movie quotes while watching the unraveling of a team which put forth an effort similar to the first regional game against Michigan.

"Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker." Mike McDermott in Rounders

and

"You think you can win on talent alone? Gentlemen, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone" Herb Brooks, Miracle

This was just plain awful. I am dreading the drive to Portland tomorrow after watching tonight. A couple of observations I have made in the first few months that were solidified tonight.

1. Clark is not athletic enough for his size to be an effective goalie. He does not move well in the crease and seems to be in awkward positions too many times

2. Downing manning the point on the power play is not working, has not worked, and will not work. I believe it was in the 3rd period where he stopped skating to a puck in the neutral zone and got beat by a hustling Maine player. Also the absence of Pesce is obvious with no one to run an already poor power play system

3. Umile continues to fail at making adjustments in between periods. After a decent first period Maine came out firing in the 2nd which must have started within the locker room.

While I did not have high expectations for the season I do expect hustle. If you are going to lose because you are not the better team fine but do not lose because you quit.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Willows +9, with no one else close, and most with a minus.

The negativity in this town (thread) sux right now. JvR is not walking through that door (skating onto the big sheet), Darren Haydar is not walking through that door (skating onto the big sheet), and Jason Krog is not walking through that door (skating onto the big sheet, or the little sheet, if in Manchvegas). And, if they do walk through that door (skate onto the big sheet, or the little sheet, whichever), they will be old and grey. Apologies to Ricky P.

Embarrassing for sure. Dang near disheartening.

I might be wrong, but my understanding is that the regular season game in MHT is part of the deal for hosting NCAA regionals. *shrug* If that is true, it doesn't seem likely that will do anything to help UNH this season... Even worse, it seems there's potential for a big hit to athletic department dollars. (Any confirmation or refutation of my understanding welcome.)

FWIW the Union Leader reports attendance at last nights hockey game at 5024...EDIT: The Union Leader number was actually 5028, MY BAD! Yay! 4 more than the reported attendance at the Fball game...just ribbing you attendance hawks. ;)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

"You can't win a hockey game if you only play one period" yep that's about right coaches comments. Like I said the Maine hustle earned them that win and despite their record they compete hard at every level at least they did last night. Even with our issues that' can't be too hard to ask for and it's what this team needs to do tonight. There's going to be a sellout in Portland so the stage is set for high intensity atmosphere. Keeping in mind the actual worth of this game as Mike pointed out earlier I still as a fan want to see that much from them. And I don't think that's being negative...
