Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

In keeping with the title of this thread, I'm managing my expectations about the next several games.

The 2 games this weekend against Maine are non-conference games so winning or losing will not impact the final Hockey East standings. Historically, Maine games often had implications for PairWise Rankings and an invitation to the NCAA tournament but not this year. Neither Maine or UNH have much of a chance to earn a berth in the NCAA tournament by virtue of their overall records. UNH is currently tied for 47th in the PairWise and Maine is tied for 54th.
I anticipate seeing most of the roster getting ice time over the course of the two games.

The 2 games out in Nebraska-Omaha at the end of December are an opportunity to gain in the PairWise Rankings since UNO is currently ranked 3rd. However, the chances of UNH accumulating enough points in the PairWise to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament are very low.
The UNO games will be significant since Brett Pesce is likely to return to the lineup. The UNH power play, in particular, is not likely to improve much until Pesce returns to action.
Will we see Danny Tirone as a backup goalie? Time will tell.

The Dartmouth game on Jan 9th will be an opportunity to advance in the PairWise since the Big Green is tied for 20th. However, as explained above, the PairWise is not likely to be a route to the NCAA's.

Starting on January 13th against Providence, UNH begins a run of 15 Hockey East games. All of these games are very important since the only way UNH can get to the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Manchester is to win the Hockey East Championship in the playoffs.
UNH needs to show steady improvement over the last 15 games in order to be the best version of themselves when the Hockey East tournament begins.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

UNH's only way to get into the NCAA's will be to win the HE Tourney, so C-H-C's final comments are spot on.

Agreed - does Tirone take us to the promised land by becoming the regular starter and getting super hot in March? That is, if our blue-liners mature over the remainder of the RS?

Seems a stretch, even for the Coaltion Of Obsequious Cheerleaders (COOC's). Proud member here!

That stated, one can dream.....

Cheerleaders? Did someone say Cheerleaders?😉

All I want for Christmas are a bunch of three zone forwards who can score ....

I guess that trumps a Jumbotron, for now.

And, speaking of the games this weekend ("I would rather be stabbed in Lowell than a Black Bear in Maine"), Scott Darling in net for Black Hawks blow out of Bs tonight.

I agree that with those who say, like that latter part of last season, we need to win the Hockey East tourney, if we want a shot at the NC this season.

Felger, Bentley has an awesome power play, which is really fun to watch, even at the humble JAR.

DeSmith pleads not guilty, charges tentative to be dropped:
http://thenewhampshire.wordpress.co...s-not-guilty-charges-tentative-to-be-dropped/

... during a school hearing in November, DeSmith presented evidence that refuted the charges. This included: the lack of evidence proving that the alleged victim was injured; inconsistency in her story to the police; inconsistency of the alleged victim’s story in comparison to eyewitness reports; and her confiding in DeSmith’s former teammate and UNH hockey captain Matt Willows that DeSmith never harmed her.

... DeSmith and his family are unhappy with the way the case had been portrayed by both the police and the media.

The Rochester native personally believed that there was a lack of effort to obtain truthfulness in the accuser’s allegations.

“I am very upset with the way my UNH career was ended, and with the way I was represented in the press,” DeSmith said in the release. “The damage to my education and to my hockey career that has resulted from the accusation made against me and the manner in which it was reported is immeasurable.”

Oh please, give it a rest.

If you want to be upset at why your "UNH career" was ended, look in the mirror.

To blame the press is just SO cliche. Must be preparing for fending off swarms of reporters in Wheeling WV.

You just apparently got re-admitted to the school. What "damage" there??

The righteous indignation coming through the press release (?) really strikes a sour note, at least for me.

Im summary ... you got drunk, you acted up (and acted badly), you probably assaulted your (now ex-)girlfriend, you got arrested, and by all accounts you handled that REALLY badly. And now you want US to think of YOU as the *victim*??

Cue the slander/libel lawsuits against his ex, the police AND the media for "immeasurable" damages. Nice.

And I was almost ready to believe there was some contrition there. Guess not. See ya in the 'Coast.

P.S. - not that he's happy about this, but this certainly confirms Coach Umile made the right decision.

Would you rather have guys who don't care whether they play for UNH or not? He has every right to be upset and it's amazing how much this situation is like what happened to Ryan Lomberg at Maine. I think both were extremely hard done by the administration at their schools, media, and police. I'm sure you and others would say 'it's their fault for putting themselves in that position' but I think hockey players should be able to go out and have fun like any other college student. It's not like they're getting paid or something like that. Hopefully moving forward we see college hockey players treated much more fair.
