Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Oh, gotcha. That would be nice! It would be good to get back on a streak again, as the team seems to have hit a stumbling block. Maybe my expectations are too high...

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

So ... anyone want to discuss tonight's game, or are we just waiting for the Olympics to roll around? :D

Actually used my season tickets with my grandson tonight. I thought UNH played "OK". I was certainly enthused by seeing three goals where UNH actually "finished" the scoring play .... well done. I am beginning to think that the #1 SOS rating is meaningful. I have lived through numerous late season disapointments over 46 UNH hockey seasons, so I will not get overly enthusiastic just yet. But hope does spring eternal ......

By the way .... my grandson is visiting us from interior Alaska .... as we got into the car after the game he said, "Man it is cold!" Enough said.

This is not good for UNH. Pairwise Rankings are based on what your opponents do, UNH lost to Minnesota. You want them to beat, not tie, their out of conference opponents.

You're right. Forgot about the loss to Minny. We've a got a ways to go yet though. A lot can happen with the pairwise.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Obviously the win was great to have, it was a fun game to be at with a few moments that will make tomorrow's game even more interesting. But let's not forget the most important moment from tonight's game... About 1/2 way through the second period they played "Black Betty". It may be a one off to shut people like me and my friends up, but I'm hoping it's the beginning of a full on return. Possibly throwing us a bone to make up for the new logo?

I loved the few groups of fans that have been around for long enough to know the story of the "Black Betty Situation" That started cheering as they heard it. I saw quite a few people with their mouths wide open just looking at each other in disbelief. It was quite a shock, and i was extremely surprised and happy. I really hope that It's making a come back. Maybe the curse of Black Betty will be lifted and UNH and the Whitt can get back to where they used to be!!!

Good win on Friday night. SOS and SOG rule. Bring back Wipe Out and Carlos Santana.

My friends and I were students back when they stopped playing it. We remember how confused we were when unh came out to start the period to a different song. We have season tickets now and as childish as it's been, it is a situation we spent a lot of time at games talking about.

It was great to hear it again, I wish it were with a larger crowd and a full student section, but I'll take what we got at this point. Also for what it's worth I believe the game was 2-2 when they played the song and unh out scored them 4-1 after hearing it.

Pretty cool they played the song...couldn't hear it on the telecast but will def be looking for it tonight! Er that's listening. Question...anyone know what's up with Kelleher two games now he hasn't played I believe? Also I like what this Maller kid brings so far. Thinking the crowd will be bigger tonight as they are going to honor tix from last night. Students still on break but I do believe I heard the cowbell! Let's Go 'Cats!

the last few minutes and the OT of that game was some of the best up an down action you will see. Colgate is 7-9-3??

Yeah I flipped over to that game after the UNH game. Even though it doesnt help UNH in the pairwise it was nice to see Mighty Minny go down:)

Looks like that does not matter as much as other PWR factors, as Hamilton's automated PWR predictor after last night's games shows that UNH (NH?) leapfrogged from 21st all the way to 14th, now right behind NU, and just ahead of NDame, UVM, Wisco, and Maine, in that order. That is a big logjam for the final couple of at-large spots for Hockey East teams; PC, BC, and UML in 4, 5, and 8.

Thanks for the insight, sonar. Last night's win won't mean anything to me unless UNH finishes off the sweep tonight, and then makes it three in a row next weekend against Dartmouth. These three are the types of games a tourney-bound team needs to be winning.

Interesting to read about the return of "Black Betty" to the playlist at The Whitt. It'll be even more interesting to listen for further appearances during the rest of the season ...

It got shut off before play resumed. I'm sure someone was in trouble over it. It was interesting to see that it still is the only song that will make the Whitt clap along in unison.

Black Betty coincided with as good a period of offensive hockey as we've played this year. Great plays and back hand finishes by Willows and Correale.

A great almost surreal moment for sure. Lots of smiles, applause and looks of "am I really hearing this?" amazement. Next up is playing it at the beginning of a period. On the flip side is the Shawshank Redemption scene when Andy plays opera over the PA and ends up in solitary confinement for a month. We'll see.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

That's great they played Black Betty. I was watching on TV and I swear I thought it was playing. Just thought I was hearing things/ going nuts because I never thought they'd play it. Very cool. Wish I was there for it and see the crowds reaction. Any reason why they don't play 'rock n roll part II' anymore when they score? I know the band plays a version but the real one.

Appreciate the insight into the PWR still learning this stuff...agree Chuck; can this team put away thse next two games with conviction? As per the re-emergence (short lived perhaps?) there is a twitter # UNHHockeySound that appears on first glance to take requests...but they haven't posted much lately. Maybe a few requests to their feed might spearhead the return of your fav tunes :). Let's Go 'Cats!
