That has a certain ring of truth to it. I've seen other instances in the private sector where once HR gets involved, things accelerate quickly and oftentimes the results are harsher than anyone would ordinarily expect. One would think in academia, it might even be worse.
Right or wrong ... you gotta think it's going to be a tough road to hoe from here on out for the player in question with the remaining staff, as well as with her teammates. Would be interesting at least to know if the process was initiated by said player, persons close to the player, or was originated independently by the program or a neutral observer.
This may well not have been entirely (or at all) Scarano's decision. With HR involved in the "inquiry" they are usually the ones that lead it so that it can appear "objective" if questions were raised down the road. UNH legal counsel was also involved. I think the ball may have been largely taken out of Marty's court with this one.
