UNH athletics in the community:

TV exposure is a tough one. I did not attend Tuesday because of my schedule, the weather and because I could watch on TV. However, the TV exposure is important. Many broadcasts are carried by Fox College Sports, expanding the marketing reach of the hockey program, UNH athletics and the University.

After one season's success UML had a significant ticket price increase. I don't recall exact prices, but was surprised when I went to buy a ticket at the box office this year. I am not a fan of some aspects of the UML fan experience. Their band is fantastic, but visual senses are overwhelmed by the video thing encircling the arena and a fairly crappy video screen. I'd rather do without. If UNH ever has the wherewithal, a research trip to Quinnipiac is in order.

Unh grad here but PC season ticket holder...anyways with the renovations at Scheinder they added a handicap area right in front of my seats that obstructs my view. Called PC up and they moved my seats with little questions asked.

Would that get done at UNH? I doubt it

I'm shocked it got done at PC. They've done some good things in the past, mixed with some insanely silly things. I'd still love to know why they scheduled basketball and hockey home games at the same time.

As for UNH1932's ticket price, I can understand most of them, but why is Merrimack and NU charging $20 and over for seats? I know Merrimack has had some nice renovations and NU is great place to see the game, but those prices are ridiculous.

It didn't take while for me to become a cranky old coot.

UNH hockey love it or leave, right Marty? No comments, thoughts, or opinions allowed, thank you, the UNH Athletic Dept.

Jacques, isn't it nice though that an Athletic Department staffer (why would a fan put that much effort into their post) would take the time on a holiday to bash UNH fans on a message board that obviously is read by some of their most loyal fans. In regards to attendance, UNH is now averaging an "announced" attendance in the low 5,000's. Has it ever been that low since they opened the Whit?

If Freak states one more time that ticket prices have gone up, and that we have the least value versus other programs, I am going to blow a head gasket. My center ice tickets have gone down about 6 dollars per ticket per game this year from last. We have 20 games for ~380 dollars this year versus 18 for 460ish last year. It might be best to give Freak his 12 dollar standing room tickets and if he can wear a pink hat while standing and if he sits down he should have to pay another 12 dollars for a seat. UNH might check tickets of people going down aisles and not allow the Snively 65's of the world to game the system. Most other schools have this policy and it seems to keep the bargain hunters from sitting in prime seating.

Good to learn that I only saved $7 on my $12 ticket rather than $12. But, another way to look at it is that the Athletic Program would be $12 poorer if I had not shown up. :-)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Didn't realize how poorly CC has done this year (record 1-9-2) until I read C-H-C's article. UNH better pull off the weekend sweep, but then again no game is a given.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Glad last night was not a repeat of last year when the Cats coughed up a four goal lead before settling for a 4-4 tie against the Tigers. The next night at DU was even more bizarre with DeSmith getting chased after giving up three goals in the first nine minutes. Fortunately, the Cats came back to beat the Pioneers and Joey Leleggia 6-4 in that one. Must be something about the lack of oxygen in Colorado?

Congrats to the UNH Wildcats football team, which routed Lafayette 45-7 in the first round of the FCS playoffs in Durham this afternoon. They will face UMaine next weekend in the quarterfinals to see who advances to the FCS semifinals. GO 'CATS!!!!

If they beat Maine they will enter the quarterfinals vs. ..... if they win that one they will probably get a date with North Dakota State (ouch!) in the Semis. It was a little cool at the game today .... but it did warm the heart.

Nice sweep by the Cats. Good to see Goumas-Sorkin clicking again.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

UNH finishes the weekend sweep at Colorado College with a 3-0 win over the Tigers, Nick Sorkin scoring the game-winner midway into the second period, and Kevin Goumas adding two late 3rd period goals (second one an ENG) to account for the final margin of victory. Casey DeSmith posts the shutout. 'Cats take care of business after a disappointing midweek loss vs. Harvard, and move to 9-7-1 and should be somewhere in the high teens in next week's polls.

Next weekend wraps up the 2013 portion of the HE schedule with a home-and-home against BC, which should be another good test for the team, after the previous weekend's split of two road games at Providence. No doubt the team has been playing better over the last few weekends, and is certainly in the running for first round home ice in the HE playoffs. Hope the 'Cats can get at least a split vs. BC, as that will at least keep them in touch with the top of the standings, especially since the next conference games won't be for another month-and-a-half until the home-and-home series against Maine in late January.

Still want to see the team picking up steam as the season plays out - not losing steam as we've seen all too often. Right now maybe they are "flying under the radar" to some extent, and I think that might be a good thing? Another start like last season might bring up the usual "Champions of November" tag and comparisons to other teams that haven't finished well ... another start like two seasons ago and they'd still be trying to dig themselves out of their early hole, which looked like it might be the case a few weeks ago.

Kudos to Coach Umile, his staff and his players for righting the ship at this point, and giving us something to look forward to in 2014! :)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Agreed with above comments. Even if the Tigers are not a good team this year, picking up four points in the oxygen-deprived air in Colorado is a good thing. Opportunity knocks with home and home against BC next weekend.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Checking the box scores, I see UNH outshot CC both nights. Whats up with that:confused:

Nice weekend for the CATS on the ice and the gridiron:)

UNH just sticks the camera person in front of my seats (at first on a seat taller than mine) instead of at the camera port in the tunnel where no one sits, but I think that would make too much sense.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

If you are not happy with the product or the price, do not come to the games and do not cheer for the team. If you have good seats, there will be someone who would be happy to have those seats as it is my understanding that we have added several hundred new ticket holders as a result of the price drop this year.
They've sold out one regular season game this year - the second night against Michigan. Their average attendance is 5,358 - take out the two Tuesday night games (Brown: 4,366; Harvard: 4,661) and you're still looking at an average of 5,696 - that's about 1,000 below the sellout number.

For comparison purposes with hockey east schools and other top programs we play this year, here are the game prices for a lower bowl between the face off circles seat:

BC $25
BU $28
Merrimack $25
Vermont $22
Maine $23-$50
UMass Amherst $18.75
Providence $12
UMass Lowell $17
Northeastern $20
Notre Dame $16-25
Minnesota $35
Colorado College $35-$40

UNH ~ $19
These appear to be individual game prices for the other schools vs the season ticket price at UNH, and if so your comparison is broken - the individual game price for a reserved seat back ticket at UNH is $24 ($26 for "premium games"). In addition, while Merrimack charges $25 for UNH, BU, and BC for other Hockey East schools and non-conference games it is $20 ( http://www.etix.com/ticket/online/h...ueSearch&venue_id=6568&orderBy=1&pageNumber=1 ). Much in the same manner, BU is charging $28 for UNH but the same seat is $23 for their remaining Hockey East and non-conference schedule ( http://www.agganisarena.com/events/terriers/mhockey/individual.html ).

It should be apparent to those attending regularly that January home games are sparsely attended and it must make sense to even the biggest whiners on this site to discount these games to increase the attendance.
Is this before or after marking them up? Back in September UNH announced the two against Nebraska-Omaha on January 3rd & 4th would be "premium games" and thus $26 instead of $24 for a reserved seat back ticket ( http://www.unhwildcats.com/sports/mice/2013-14/releases/20130920ubzlul ), this seemed foolish for two reasons:
1) The students will be on break so these two games are NEVER selling out even at regular price.
2) It's Nebraska-Omaha - they're not a big name school that is going to move tickets. They're not a perennial contender, they've never won anything in the league, and they've made the NCAA's twice and lost in the first round both times (including being embarrassed 9-2 by BU in 2006). USCHO lists them as having 4 seasons over .550 since 1997-1998, their win % averaged over that time is .478
It was a cash grab, plain and simple, and apparently it blew up in their faces as the two UNO games found their way in to the Black Friday sale where you could pick up seats for $12.

I thank all of the other long-term season ticket holders for staying the course and keeping UNH as either the number one or number two attendance leader in Hockey East since the Whittemore Center opened.
Only two schools have bigger buildings (UMass Amherst [8,389] and Boston College [7,884]), and only one of them is any good.

In regards to attendance, UNH is now averaging an "announced" attendance in the low 5,000's. Has it ever been that low since they opened the Whit?
