Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread
If you are not happy with the product or the price, do not come to the games and do not cheer for the team. If you have good seats, there will be someone who would be happy to have those seats as it is my understanding that we have added several hundred new ticket holders as a result of the price drop this year.
They've sold out one regular season game this year - the second night against Michigan. Their average attendance is 5,358 - take out the two Tuesday night games (Brown: 4,366; Harvard: 4,661) and you're still looking at an average of 5,696 - that's about 1,000 below the sellout number.
For comparison purposes with hockey east schools and other top programs we play this year, here are the game prices for a lower bowl between the face off circles seat:
BC $25
BU $28
Merrimack $25
Vermont $22
Maine $23-$50
UMass Amherst $18.75
Providence $12
UMass Lowell $17
Northeastern $20
Notre Dame $16-25
Minnesota $35
Colorado College $35-$40
UNH ~ $19
These appear to be individual game prices for the other schools vs the season ticket price at UNH, and if so your comparison is broken - the individual game price for a reserved seat back ticket at UNH is $24 ($26 for "premium games"). In addition, while Merrimack charges $25 for UNH, BU, and BC for other Hockey East schools and non-conference games it is $20 (
http://www.etix.com/ticket/online/h...ueSearch&venue_id=6568&orderBy=1&pageNumber=1 ). Much in the same manner, BU is charging $28 for UNH but the same seat is $23 for their remaining Hockey East and non-conference schedule (
http://www.agganisarena.com/events/terriers/mhockey/individual.html ).
It should be apparent to those attending regularly that January home games are sparsely attended and it must make sense to even the biggest whiners on this site to discount these games to increase the attendance.
Is this before or after marking them up? Back in September UNH announced the two against Nebraska-Omaha on January 3rd & 4th would be "premium games" and thus $26 instead of $24 for a reserved seat back ticket (
http://www.unhwildcats.com/sports/mice/2013-14/releases/20130920ubzlul ), this seemed foolish for two reasons:
1) The students will be on break so these two games are
NEVER selling out even at regular price.
2) It's Nebraska-Omaha - they're not a big name school that is going to move tickets. They're not a perennial contender, they've never won anything in the league, and they've made the NCAA's twice and lost in the first round both times (including being embarrassed 9-2 by BU in 2006). USCHO lists them as having 4 seasons over .550 since 1997-1998, their win % averaged over that time is .478
It was a cash grab, plain and simple, and apparently it blew up in their faces as the two UNO games found their way in to the Black Friday sale where you could pick up seats for $12.
I thank all of the other long-term season ticket holders for staying the course and keeping UNH as either the number one or number two attendance leader in Hockey East since the Whittemore Center opened.
Only two schools have bigger buildings (UMass Amherst [8,389] and Boston College [7,884]), and only one of them is any good.
In regards to attendance, UNH is now averaging an "announced" attendance in the low 5,000's. Has it ever been that low since they opened the Whit?
