Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Was thinking, hope umile and company taking notes on how to score on the power play on the large sheet..not that unh power play has been lacking.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

yes but UNH has a propensity to lose when the stage is big.Rarely do they meet our expectations especially this year, dont forget their basically a 500 team.

Trust me I know. I was simply showing how UNH would finish if they tied NU in points. Chuck said UNH would have to do at least two points better than NU to finish in 3rd which isn't true.

They can do it question is will they, I would venture to say with the exception of ice size will be much like a home game expect more unh fans.

I disagree. While I have previously noted that UNH is essentially a .500 team, it is nonetheless true that they have been pretty consistent in the league. They are 1-5 against teams above them in the standings, 9-3 against the rest. I think they play pretty much to form. Sure the Vermont weekend was a bust, but I saw that as evening things out for the weekend before, when they got a win against ND they probably didn't deserve. dc, I don't think they are gimme points next weekend, but if you can't beat the bottom team in the league, you probably don't deserve home ice.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

And I think Chuck meant UNH would have to do 2 points better than NU next weekend. My apologies Chuck I misunderstood.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

I've got a weird gut feeling that Northeastern is going to win (Saturday) night and finish 3rd.

AND I'm going to suggest #6 will be decided between Providence @ UMaine next weekend.

UNH @ UMaine in a best of three QF. You read it here first. :D

I'm still sticking with this outcome ... although one piece I'd totally downplayed was the UMass Lowell @ UVM series next weekend, as I'd expected the Riverhawks to get something from the BC series this weekend. Now UML and Northeastern are tied at 22 points each, and the Huskies have MUCH easier opposition coming up (BU) this weekend. NOW with something to actually play for next weekend, I'm expecting Northeastern to take at least 3 points from BU. If Lowell can't match that @ UVM, then so long as UMaine doesn't sweep PC (I don't think they will), Northeastern finishes second, as taking three points vs. BU also effectively puts them out of UNH's reach.

Lowell having swept UNH this season, that means UNH will have to do 3 points better than UML to pass them. Not gonna happen.

I'd love to believe UNH wll take 4 points next weekend against Merrimack. They should. IF they do ... I think they are safe with home ice for the QF's, with UMaine and Providence taking points from each other next weekend. UMaine's blowing a last minute lead Friday night to NU may end up costing them home ice in the QF's, and send them down to Durham instead. :)

I'm still going to be the pessimist and say UNH only takes 3 points next weekend. :( Hope they prove me wrong.

With UNH being even on their head-to-heads with both PC and UMaine ... what's the next tiebreaker after that?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Number of wins in conference play.

Good news for UNH then in any ties with UMaine and PC. :)

BTW I messed up on UML. Spaced on the fact they tied BC last night, and have 23 points - not 22. :o

Still not out of NU's reach, but in better shape than I'd outlined ...

Agree NU beats ME tonight!

But I've got: #6 PC @ #3 UNH in the QF

#5 ME @ #4 NU in the QF

UNH and NU advance to the Garden!:D

The weekend played out like I thought it would so I still have:

#6 PC @ #3 UNH in the QF's:)

IF UNH SWEEPS MC:

SCENARIO 1

NU/BU SPLIT---NU 24 PTS

ME/PC SPLIT---ME 23 PTS
PC 22 PTS
UNH GETS THE #3 SEED

SCENARIO 2

NU SWEEPS BU---NU 26 PTS
ME SWEEPS PC---ME 25 PTS
PC 20 PTS
UNH GETS THE #5 SEED

SCENARIO 3

NU SWEEPS BU---26 PTS
ME/PC SPLIT---ME 23 PTS
NU 22 PTS
UNH GETS THE #4 SEED

SCENARIO 4

NU SPLIT---NU 24 PTS
ME SWEEPS PC---ME 25 PTS
PC 20 PTS
UNH GETS THE #4 SEED

I think I've done this correctly. Please correct me if I am wrong on this:cool:

I'll go thru the numbers. IDK yet. I know UNH wins the tie-break with NU. I think someone said earlier that UNH wins the tie-break with ME and PC too but I'm not sure. I'll take a look.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

I'm pretty sure UNH does own the tiebreaker with Me and PC so,

IF UNH GETS 3 PTS VS. MC:

SCENARIO 1

NU/BU SPLIT---NU 24 PTS

ME/PC SPLIT---ME 23 PTS
PC 22 PTS
UNH GETS THE #4 SEED

SCENARIO 2

NU SWEEPS BU---NU 26 PTS
ME SWEEPS PC---ME 25 PTS
PC 20 PTS
UNH GETS THE #5 SEED

SCENARIO 3

NU SWEEPS BU---26 PTS
ME/PC SPLIT---ME 23 PTS
PC 22 PTS
UNH GETS THE #4 SEED

SCENARIO 4

NU SPLIT---NU 24 PTS
ME SWEEPS PC---ME 25 PTS
PC 20 PTS
UNH GETS THE #5 SEED

I think I've done this correctly. Please correct me if I am wrong on this

Great job ecat, is their a scenario for just two unh points.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

If UNH only picks up 2 pts then they would finish with 22 pts and would not get home ice in the QF under any of the scenarios I layed out!

not so fast grass hopper, if nu loses both, Maine picks up only a point vs PC ..than unh wins 4th...but if Vermont runs table over Lowell, they would pick up 4th.

NU losing both to BU pretty unlikely but ya you're right. Thanks for that. There are probably a lot of other permutations like the one you mentioned with UVM which would throw a monkey wrench into the cog. I'm not even going to attempt to scrutinize further though.:D
