Those blinding golden helmets scored seven unanswered goals against the eagles. Should be an interesting quarters moving into Sarurday.

Anyone else love college hockey? Friday night confirms why college hockey is my favorite form of sport. Just looking at Hockey East. We had an underdog blowout, shutout 1-0 win by our Wildcats, and two unanswered goals scored late in the third to edge Vermont. Love it. Go Wildcats!

Absolutely! We were amazed by the scores coming in at the 'Whit! The 'Cats hung tough despite all the penalties and the crazy ending. Madigan had a lot to say to the officials; no idea what was up. It aint over yet and tomorrow should be wild! Bring it 'Cats!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Wow ... that's splitting some mighty fine hairs right there.

Not really Chuck. For example have you notticed that Dr. Phil does not call himself a psychologist. To do that would cause him to be in violation of State Law (Calif.) Only if you are working for the government or teaching in higher education, or hold a State License as a Psychologist are you allowed to call yourself a psychologist. Consider that it is similar as an attorney or a physician. You cannot behave like you are a physician unless you have a medical license. If you did not pass the bar you can't say that you are an attorney.

BY THE WAY I THOUGHT UNH PLAYED VERY WELL TONIGHT.

I shudda stuck with my original ND upset. Go Irish:)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

sonar, I really don't have a dog in this fight. One of my dearest professional associates went to school with Churchard back in Saugus WAY back in the day, and has nothing but great things to say about him. I remember when he was behind the UNH bench an an unpaid volunteer assistant, and who am I to criticize Coach Umile if he can add perceived resources to the program at no cost? But there is an inconsistency, and he is listed in two different areas of the on-line media guide - once as a "psychologist" as Felger points out below:

EDIT: He is clearly identified as the team's "Sport Psychologist" in the media guide:

As for tonight's results ... great win UNH. It's always a positive sign for ANY team to be able to win the close low-scoring games in the postseason. Kudos to UMass-Lowell for coming back late to overcome UVM, and to PC for taking care of the UMaine "road worriers". ;)

The BC game ... just WOW!!!!!      But let's not forget, UNH could sweep NU, and maybe even make it to the HE Finals (and losing) and not make it to the D-1 tourney, while BC could lose 10-0 to ND tomorrow and still get a #1 seed. Having said that, I'd still be VERY surprised not to see BC take the next two comfortably. Tonight should have been a shot across their bow, and I'm sure Coach York will have them jumping from the opening faceoff tomorrow night. Unless there is some truth to that whole theory about Coach Ayers somehow infiltrating the BC camp and spreading post-season fright all over the locker room. :D ;)

One more game to get to UNH's modest goal of making it to Boston, though. Get it done tomorrow, 'Cats!! :)

Re: Psychologists, I think people get confused with the difference between Psychologists and Psychiatrists. Psychologists are PHD's and Psychiatrists are MD's and can prescribe medications.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Tim Churchard graduated with a liberal arts degree in 1967; no mention of major. He lived in a cabin behind Whoop's house on Edgewood Road after dropping out for a year. Three of my best friends in high school were neighbors of the Snively's, so got to know Whoop a bit; he was a really nice guy. Churchard then picked up a couple of grad degrees from Salem State and UNH in education and business. No mention of psychology with those degrees either. He teaches as adjunct in the UNH business school, and initiated the Whoop Snively Citizenship Award in 2009, which was awarded to Justin Agosta last season. Thanks, Google.

Listening to this one on the radio in the wilds of northern New Hampshire. Band sounds good on the radio. Go Cats!

Tim does a good job working in the area of sports psychology with both the hockey and the football teams.

Chuck, I would be very surprised if UNH didn't jump into the top 16 if they make it to the HE finals. Still biz to take care of nonetheless!

unh is tied for 17 in power, win tomorrow and will move higher, possibly 14 but likely 16, maybe 15..need Michigan to lose to Minnesota, Yale will lose, northeastern hopefully and Minnesota state to lose..

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Precisely, with a big if, UNH win and a few upsets , Colgate losing, unh can move up to a tie for 15,with Minnesota state.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Tonight's victory gives UNH 20 wins on the season. Hope the 'Cats have a few more left in 'em! :)

Freshman Tyler Kelleher's game-winning goal:

To coin a New England phrase (I'm from Flawda haha) I was "wicked" excited to Tyler to get this goal. It was HUGE in so many ways!! Thought he held his own all night and was finally rewarded...Also agree with the press out there on Cleland and Maller, in fact, our entire defense...what a battle it was; they supported Casey D bigtime and that made ALL the difference last night!!! Bring it 'Cats!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Does anyone have any insight as to why 2.5 seconds were put back on the clock at the end of the game? NU coach Madigan was not a happy camper all night. I don't wanna talk bad about him or NU but geesh they did get 5 PP's in the second alone. Umpire skated to their bench more than once to calm him down...we witnessed a lot of stuff happening in front of us (both teams). It was a war out there and tonight should be quite the clash. Bring it 'Cats!

Parkhurst and Webster were talking about what happened in the post game review. Apparently there were a couple penalties just before time ran out so they added the time back and had a faceoff to end it.
