Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

BC in 2 over ND
Lowell in 3 over VT
Maine in 3 over PC
UNH in 2 over NU

BC crushes Maine
Lowell edges UNH, maybe an empty netter makes it 3 goal defeat.

BC wins it all over Lowell, probably by a couple of goals.

Qf's

bc/nd---bc in 3 (heart says nd in 3)

uml/vt---vt in 3

pc/me---pc in 2

unh/nu---unh in 2 (head says unh in 2, gut says unh in 2)

garden party

bc/vt---bc 2ot
unh/pc--unh by 2 with an eng

bc/unh--unh 5-2 (bc gassed and beat up after 20t game)(willows has a shortie, pesce and knodel both have pp slappahs), sorkin and downing 1g apiece, goumas 3a!!

I like e.cat's scenario best, so I am endorsing that. :-)

And, then we beat Union and da Gophers for our first NC, after cruising through the Northeast Regional.

if we win three games will probably be 14 or 15 seed , bearing any tournament upsets. Puts us on track to play a union , But their are tons of if's

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

It says in the game notes that Saturday is a TV game for UNH...
You are correct, Saturday on WBIN, not Friday. Bit surprised that they only picked up one, or as they also carry Lowell games they didn't go with UML-Vermont on Friday, UNH-NU Saturday.

During the Saturday Merrimack-UNH game they interviewed someone from WBIN between periods on the 'Mack video stream and he mentioned that WBIN had floated the idea with the league of a weekly Hockey East 'game of the week' type package and wanting to carry games from every school.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

UNH is .500 this season after week+ breaks:
4-2 L vs Cornell, 3-2 W vs Princeton (2 weeks off)
4-2 L and 4-2 W at Merrimack (1 week off)

EDIT: On it's own not that surprising as they are just about a .500 team this season (.542), but keep in mind they looked anemic that first night back against Merrimack and didn't really get it together until the second period the second night. Wasn't in Florida so can't speak for the Cornell game, but do remember expecting them to bury Princeton who had only 3 wins to that point and a -31 goal differential.

I was told at the FF in Buffalo that the Cats would win a NC when the Red Sox win a World Series. So, the Sox just won their third WS since 2004.

I was at that FF and heard Scarano say something like, "We're going to win it this time." You just can't believe what you hear anymore!;)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Honestly thought we overachieved to beat a strong Cornell team (we've had their number in the NCAA's in the 2000's [Worcester, Buffalo, Albany]) and then hang in with Minnesota for two periods. It is often forgotten that we were without our leading scorer for those two.

GAME DAY! Here we goooo 'Cats! Time to bring it big, come out with guns blazin'! Sending positive vibes to the 'Whitt boys! Insert Wildcat sound here...:D

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

#4 UNH vs. #5 Northeastern ... 3 games, heart says UNH, head says NU. Going with the heart. :)

Hey Chuck you and I tend to be on the same page so I wondered why you feel this way. I just see this weekend as a really bad match up for the Huskies. They haven't won a game at the Whitt since 2007 and I don't expect them to scratch that seven year itch. NU will have trouble with UNH's speed and aren't really built for the big surface. Probably won't be 7-1 like the regular season because playoff hockey tends to be a bit tighter but I really don't see much drama over the next couple of nights. In fact, I don't feel much excitement for any of the other matchups either. Chalk prevailed last weekend, and I expect the same this one. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see each series end in two games.

P.S. I could see "head says UNH, but heart has been broken so many times that says NU":)

Boston College in two games
Vermont in three games

that Cornell game I believe UNH pummeled Cornell on shots on net, 3-1 ratio, too lazy to look it up.

It helped that Cornell had a legit deflection goal called back in a 0-0 game. Probably would have been one of those frequent Cornell 1-0 or 2-1 wins during that era if that goal stood. It's still scary to see clear video evidence that is without a doubt conclusive and still have the officials blow it; in any sport. Drives me gd crazy. That 2003 Cornell team was legit.

You should ask your current assistant coach whether he thought the goal was legit. :D And while you're at it, you can ask him what he was yelling at his teammates once Vanek took over the Finals game in the 3rd period. :p

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

Just a little something I cooked up...based on the "Night Before Christmas" :)

It’s Hockey East game day and all through the ‘Whitt

They’re preparing the place for ‘Cat Fans to sit

All through our House one thing was clear

It wouldn’t be long til the Huskies were here!

Coach Umile woke up with a start

Knowing his team must play with their heart

So he called on his boys to take to the ice

Going to the Garden would surely be nice!

Leading the way Captains Trevor, Eric and Jeff,

We look up to you boys; no time is left!

On Kevin, on Dalton, Grayson, Tyler, Mattie and Nick!

Skate hard to the net, and do it real quick!

On Jeff, on Casey, on Kyle, on Mattias and Dan!

No time to waste; no shots to fan!

On Brett, on Justin, on Harry and Dylan!

We’re counting on you, will you be willin?

Bring it Jay, Jamie, Ryan, Collin and Maxim,

We wanna send those Huskies a packin’!

Casey DeSmith, won’t you stand on your head?

Without you our season would surely be dead!

Here we go Wildcats, make us real proud

And in return, we promise to be loud!

Show those Huskies who’s the boss…right from the start

Come on Wildcats, play with your heart!

You may be right on that last bit, Felger. I try to be optimistic, but every time I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out to be an oncoming freight train. But without any real "burden of expectations" on UNH this postseason - you know, other than actually competing in and winning some games with hardware on the line - maybe they will rise to the occasion. Dare to dream, eh?

Anyway, this morning's cruise through the media turned up this *fascinating* item at Seacoastonline.com, an interview with "legendary UNH hockey coach" Dick Umile, sharing his secrets of success ...

There are some interesting nuggets in there - I'm still grappling with the visual of Coach Umile listening to tapes of Tony Robbins - but the one I think some of our long-time regulars on here might find most interesting are his answers to the questions about motivating his players. Maybe it's me, but he seems pretty passive in his answers there. Surprising? Not really, to me at least. Thoughts (other than why Coach decided right now would be a good time to get into this?)??

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread (Part 2)

The motivation tapes must need to be returned to the library before "trophy" season. I guess the are only good for "banner" season.
