UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Cripes...this nervous anticipation is killing me! I'm looking at my watch about every five minutes until we shove off at 6pm to head to Manchestah. No need to rehash what previous posters have said, you guys have all nailed it, so my son and I will add our voices to a raucous UNH crowd tonight and get behind the boys. Go Cats! Leave it all on the ice tonight!

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

That's all I've been saying for 3 years now bilb.....how can we not be happy with our program when every year we get to what is an Elite Eight position, being the only team to win a regional game the last 3 years, etc...**** fine work for our Wildcats....as long as we remember how we feel now should we come up short tonight.....we've outlasted all schools east of Michigan as of game time, not bad eh?

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Agreed zoofer, but let's take this one and really mSke a statement. No reason we can't take out ND and advance. Wish I was there....

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

It's too bad that UNH's biggest accomplishment this year will be to say that they outlasted BC in the NCAAs. Credit Notre Dame for playing the right kind of game versus UNH, but truth be told it should have been the other way around.

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

I've been a Umile supporter, but that was poor coaching, leaving the top unit on the PP the whole time, causing them to be tired, creating the PP for ND to finish the period.

You're kidding right? You go with the horses that get you there. The PP was struggling 0 for 19 I believe, and the Notre Dame goalie played lights out. "Causing them to be tired" is beautiful. There really wasn't an opportunity to get them off. Killing the penalty swung the momentum back to ND which accounts for their scoring opportunity which "drew" the penalty.

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

You're not the first person who's said this, but IMO you sound like Dan Duquette/Peter Chiarelli. Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of respect for Dick Umile and your program, but come on man ;)

Anyway, there is something to be said for being a top 10 program--which UNH currently is. Congrats on another solid performance in the regionals. Was pulling for you guys again tonight and it seems like you're getting closer to a return trip to the FF.

What are the expectations for next year?

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Another typical UNH finish.........first HE now here......always the bridesmaids never the bride a perfect record

they may walk away from this season completely empty handed, but they did spend the most days in first place (all but one by my count!)

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Needless to say, the goal at the end of the 2nd was a heartbreaker.

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Question: Why do you guys throw a lobster? I thought you just threw fish?

From what I've been told, that's what can break a team's back (or heart, if they have any). If I had a million dollars for every time I saw UNH give up a cheapy in the last minute of a period and go on to lose a game they should have won, I'd be a rich man (adjusted for inflation).
That goal never should have been scored.
I'd also like to predict that soon we'll see the re-emergence of Jacques Crapaud Galeux or whatever his name is.

Hi, Steve, yah, and so did Yale. Big deal. Yale had a target on their back; UNH a monkey. They couldn't get it off tonight. Oh, well, as with Ponce de Leon, I'm off to Florida to find the Fountain of Youth; maybe I can live long enough to see a national championship.

Savor the good times whenever they come along. It helps get you through the long winters, losing streaks, lost recruits, and missed opportunities.

P.S. - Like this attitude (from unionleader.com):
"That's (losing in the Regional Final last season) pretty fresh in our minds," said senior center Phil DeSimone. "The first thing everyone said, seniors to sophomores, in the locker room was, 'Hey, we were in this position last year.' Tonight doesn't really mean anything unless we do it tomorrow."

And this from the concordmonitor.com:

I repeat:

Problem is that we have seen this act before. The team isn't playing as well down the stretch. Hope grows as the papers are filled with quotes from players who recognize the problems they're having, and that they're working to correct them. They'll have to prove that this time is different, and are not just saying the right things.

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

I repeat:
Absolutely I agree 100%. Talk. Is. Cheap. Is that how you say it?
Or, as my social psych prof (never mind the year) said, "Purity of intentions doesn't mean $hit."
