UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

Good Lord, I meant to say "You know as much about high education as you do about NCAA hockey championships". I knew posting on a UNH thread would lower my IQ. I didn't think it would happen so fast. :)

Must be time to get out of the thread then.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

It's pretty obvious that replying to trollers is a no-no. I'm amazed that some of you continue to do it (unless this is the way you get your jollies). Ignoring BC fans is pretty obvious, but why would anyone want to reply to a Brown fan? Or for that matter, Bill B?

I'm going to break that final rule just this once. Bill, you are not a UNH fan. In fact, since you never have anything good to say about UNH, I'd be willing to bet that you don't even go to games. Somehow you have dubbed yourself as the chief of the fashion police, going on endlessly about Umile's mock necks. Not sure why anyone cares what you have to say. Frankly, you are an embarrassment. Why don't you just go away. Please.
Mr. Ambrose, I attended the University when you did, when you made a name for yourself by laughing too loud at the professors' jokes and by the exhibiting the mental acuity of a ball peen hammer in your answers to the professors' questions.
Remember the phrase, "The clothes make the man?" Say what you will, but Mr. Umile's lack of respect for his profession through his improper attire trickles down to the players. He's a buffoon in his turtleneck, as are you and the rest of the sycophants here in this forum.
And I must bring up CarlS again, when I bought two tickets from him in the Lamplighter parking lot in Bedford, and all he could say was, "Where's my money? Where's my money?"
What was it, ten bucks? The trash doesn't fall too far from the trailer, does it?

Why are you so stuck on turtlenecks vs ties? You've had this constant argument for years and I just don't seem to understand. His mock turtlenecks are the reason why we don't have a national championship?!

Wow, its like a war zone in here. I wish the NMU thread was like that.

That being said, I was thinking about travelling to New Hampshire and taking in a game this upcoming season (I had a financial windfall and no longer need to work so I have a lot of free time). Do you think I would need advanced tickets for most of the games? Also where is the best bar for me to pick up a - how should i say - less than classy girl before or after the game?

It's "improper". The man might as well be out there in a tie-dyed shirt with a beer helmet on.

Actually, I like bill's theory, as insane as it is. It's not Umile's coaching, or the recruiting, or any of that stuff that's directly related to the game. It's his wardrobe. He could be the best coach ever, but once he puts on that turtleneck, it just doesn't matter.

(Of course, I'm pretty sure Umile was wearing a shirt and tie when UNH lost to RIT, but why let facts ruin a good psychotic delusion?)

you'd probably choke on it

LOL.

As far as billb's rant is concerned, I didn't mind it. Any time someone is aiming their crosshairs at that worthless twit Ambrose, they are going in the right direction. A nice summer addition to the UNH thread, too. Billb is like a modern day HankWP in more ways than one.

Hey! For some of us tie-dye is our work uniform! ;)

billy, I think I'm finally understanding your point here, and it took the World Cup to get me to see it.

Argentina played Germany yesterday. Here's a photo of Argentina's coach Diego Maradona during the game. Nice suit, eh? Clean, respectful, and classy, all the way down to his shoes.

And now, here's a photo of the German head coach, Joachim Loew. I think that's actually worse than just wearing a turtleneck!

I saw the two coaches before the game, and said, "According to billb, Argentina is going to SMOKE Germany!"

Now, I couldn't watch the whole game, but I heard the final score was 4-0. Argentina won, right?

...right?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

I'm sure I'll get whipped with a few sarcastic remarks from both UNH fans and foes alike for this question.... :p

But seriously, what are fans' thoughts on the goaltending situation this year with Foster's graduation? How much faith does everyone have in DiGirolamo?

He seemed to have good stuff in his final USHL campaign, but had some struggles during limited exposure as a freshman, and then logged a grand total of 90-something minutes of game time as a sophomore.

He nows walks in as a junior, the assumed starter, who isn't the least bit battle tested at the college level.

Don't get me wrong, he might be great! But if he's not, I would be worried about UNH's NCAA bid chances this year. I don't know much about Jeff Wyer, but the little research I did showed a pretty average outing in a weaker league (12th in save pct; 14th in GAA)

It does look like Wyer's team gave up a lot of shots, which can play a role in the numbers, but historically, UNH has given up high shot totals. I have my doubts of him being an instant-impact type of 'tender.

Granted, the Cats have a few darn good D-recruits, so who knows what the dynamic will be?!

Really just curious what people who follow the program closer than I do think of it all! :)

Take it to the bank... UNH will win the HE regular season title with or without a goaltender. ;) :D

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

I think its Digi's job to lose going into next year, but would not be surprised at all if its called an "open competition" going into the season. The talk of Wyer isn't that great, and it is assumed that Campbell coming in for the 2011 season will be allowed to compete for the job. Campbell was pushed back during the first half of his USHL season and Wyer accelerated. He has since blossomed into a above average USHL goalie, so the hope is he can come in and atleast split, then take over full time for 2012.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

Tyler Scott will enter the season as the #2 behind Digi. Wyer will be the #3 and is a longshot to see time between the pipes during the first part of the season. Digi could struggle at first, but UNH will have the best d corps from top to bottom in recent memory, and they will be a nice luxury for him.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

Haven't been here in a long time . When is the last time UNH had bad goaltending? Have faith Wildcat nation! ( I don't mean some individual game bad keeping)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

To paraphrase a post from last March:

"There's been some discussion on this thread about whether there will be a suitable and comparable replacement for Brian Foster next season. Out of curiosity, I checked out the website of Matt DiGirolamo's former USHL team, the Waterloo Black Hawks, to find out more about his history. I found some very interesting statistics. It turns out that DiGirolamo compares favorably with a former Waterloo goalie whom you will recognize. Here's what the "Most Wins in a Season" table shows:

#1 Kevin Regan 2003 28 Wins 2.37 GAA .915 SV%
#2 Matt DiGirolamo 2007 25 Wins 2.41 GAA .900 SV%
#4 Matt DiGirolamo 2006 22 Wins 2.54 GAA .905 SV%

In other words, DiGi's career in Juniors' Hockey was comparable to one of UNH's best goalies ever. Maybe DiGi has more potential than we have seen since he arrived in Durham."
