UNH: What to expect in 2015

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So tonight is another mid-week meeting with Harvard......given that UNH has made incremental adjustments and improvements, tonight's game might catch the Crimson looking past UNH.....with #5 on the horizon, with UMD to follow, maybe this will be a trap game for them! As DC noted as we talked after the 2nd BC game this past weekend, UNH did a very good job keeping BC on the edges and away from the scrums in front of the net....Kyra Smith did a very good job as a freshman seeing the power of BC for the first time....a great Carpenter goal along with a typical Skarupa tally were to be expected so all in all I'm being the optimist again and for the reasons mentioned, am hoping that UNH really puts the pedal down tonight and sneaks out of Cambridge on the QT......

FYP@! Petals are on flowers, and Wildcats are not!:p

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Nice win today for the team.....Providi scored to make it a one goal game with 12 minutes left, and it was nice to see UNH dig in a bit and play up to the level needed to match PC's intensity! A big 2 points earned today, with another 2 huge ones tomorrow....maybe by season's end UNH can match the top 3 schools but for now we need to take all points possible vs the rest of the league to try and earn that 4th home ice spot.....maybe that's a "duh" statement, but it's important to remember it in real time and not say we should've or if only come March.....c'mon Wildcats!👏👏👍🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦🤓

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So given the way that the schedule lays out this weekend, it once again presents a golden opportunity to gain some much needed ground in the standings! Things I'd love to see happen beginning tonight....soft hands on their sticks: quick release on shots: drive to the net and make the goalie move: some semblance of an offensive system: a defensive breakout other than just throwing the puck off the glass: defense standing up the player at the blue line, not continually backing up: more than 8 offensive players rotating the whole game, use 4 lines: some kind of repercussion for continuous bad play: communication on the bench during the game: positive reinforcement! Go Wildcats....
And of course, a hearty welcome back to Lake Whitt to Coach Erin Hamlen and Coach Kacey Bellamy! :D:p:)

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Really nice to see the Wildcats rise to the occasion and collect all the points available this past weekend.....while Friday was a more lopsided score, neither game was a runaway, which tells you something there. But the lines for UNH do seem to be getting more comfortable with each other, and I can't say enough about freshman Kyra Smith in nets! This week we take on the ECAC, with Dartmouth, Quinnipiac and Yale respectively....given that none of these game count in league standings, I hope we continue to incrementally improve on all fronts, getting comfortable in our own skin so to speak, and use the confidence gained to seriously come back and challenge for a playoff spot!
And with that I wish all my Goy and Jewish friends a Happy Chanukah this week! Pass the latkes, please.....:p:p;)

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Four in a row with the 3-2 win over Dartmouth!! Keep it going 'Cats!!:)

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Really looking forward to seeing how the Wildcats do vs, Quinni tonight......I think the Cats have played at least as mnany ranked teams as the Bobcats, if not more, so they should be ready for a quality team's speed and talent.....I guess it's like they always say, "it's really just about our game".....if so, then given their play lately, it should be a close game....It seems that the lines have jelled a bit, as they get used to each others play, and the goal tending has been superb with Kyra Smith in nets, so if they can control their D-zone a bit better, standing up on-rushers and clearing the crease.....(just a small list for Santa) It will be a competitive game tonight....since Quinni broadcasts are free, hope you all tune in....C'mon Cats!

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Yes it did Freak.....to say we weren't ready in the first would infer that Quinni wasn't playing well, and they were...perhaps a bit of both, but with only 7 shots for the game, you're not going to beat a HIgh School team! It would've been nice if the defense provided Smith some help but I guess that still heads the list, eh Freak

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So the second half of the season stats this weekend vs NU.....should be a good indicator for us, as we ended last semester playing well, despite getting smoked by #4 Quinnipiac. Anyway I'm hoping that the strides we made as a team thru the first half of the season, carry us thru to staying in the fourth spot......on another note, in case you had no idea, here's UNH letting you know wassup......Go Wildcats!

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So aftertonight Kendall Coyne is a point short of tying and two from breaking Hillary Witt's record for the All Time NU scoring lead. She will be going to break it against Witt Saturday at Matthews. Anyone making the trek down? Also I am sure you will all be heartbroken that I can not continue my undefeated streak at Lake Whitt since I will be at the Pride game, so hopefully you can stop by Saturday.

See ya Saturday. Cheesecake Factory at noon if you are so inclined, but don't count your Coyne points until they happen - jinx!

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So far this year, UNH has played 2 games in 3 weeks! Definitely not the best way to stay sharp, and to carry the momentum they ended their first semester with.....this isn't to put the cart before the horse and create easy excuses, but it is to define some of the added adverseties that the Wildcats face this weekend. There are 4 huge points up for grabs vs Maine, with about 10 games left in the season....hopefully UNH has practiced hard for the last fortnight, with a ton of wind sprints to try and get into game condition.....we'll see. Hopefully the team enjoys being together on the road, and continue to play for each other! Home ice is within reach as of now, they just have go out and take it.....c'mon you Wildcats! 🏒🏒🏒👍🏻🤓

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Hopefully some of you will remember Mad magazine, and Alfred E. Newman's famous saying,"What me worry?" I should've applied the quote when wondering if the Wildcats would have issues with skating only 2 games in 3 weeks! Well with Jonna Curtis leading the way with 3 points and the team putting up 53 SOG Saturday, and Kyra Smith with her first collegiate shut-out on Sunday, the team did bring home 4 points to jump back into fourth place......showing a lot of hustle, it was good to see the team playing up to their abilities! The lines look good and the D seems more at ease with itself....back-stopped by Smith, the Wildcats look like they might be ready to secure home ice:p

2016 Hall of Fame Class is Announced

2016 Hall of Fame Class is Announced

New Hampshire's 1997-98 women's ice hockey team made history by winning the inaugural national championship with a 4-1 victory against Brown University in the American Women's College Hockey Alliance title game at FleetCenter (Boston Garden) in Boston. That victory lifted the Wildcats to a season-ending record of 31-5-3 overall (.838 winning percentage) and established the benchmark for single-season victories (since surpassed with 33 in '06 and '08).

Led by head coach Karen Kay, the Wildcats won the ECAC regular-season title with an 18-1-3 record (.886 win percentage) and also skated to a 10-1-2 mark (.846 win percentage) on home ice at the Whittemore Center.

UNH opened the season with seven consecutive wins and raced out to a 17-2-1 record through 20 games with both losses coming to Canada's Concordia University, which accounted for a total of three of the Wildcats' five losses in 1997-98. New Hampshire closed the regular season with a 12-game unbeaten streak of 10-0-2 and extended the streak to 13 by defeating Princeton University, 7-2, in the ECAC semifinals. The Wildcats were upended 4-3 by Brown in the league title game but received one of four berths to the AWCHA tournament and defeated the University of Minnesota, 4-1, in the national semifinals to advance to the historic championship game.

The 1997-98 women's ice hockey team boasted the inaugural Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award recipient (Brandy Fisher), two All-America selections (Fisher and Nicki Luongo) and the ECAC Player of the Year (Fisher).

Re: 2016 Hall of Fame Class is Announced

Given that UNH did win the inaugural National Championship, why is it that people say that Clarkson is the only team to win the National Championship outside of the Western teams? NCAA or AWCHA..a rose by any other name!

It is just people misusing terminology. Clarkson is the only eastern team to win an NCAA championship, which currently serves as the national championship aso well. The NCAA did not sponsor a championship when UNH won the AWCHA.

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Why do I care who sponsored the **** thing, UNH won the women's title that year!
Now that UNH plays at UConn in the first round of the HE playoffs, do the games have to have video coverage? UConn is the only school that has no online video coverage.......anyone have any idea? Cmon Joe B, make it happen🏒🏒🏒👍🏻🖖

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

DC and I both wrote to UConn asking if the games would be streamed....a Jennifer Greene kindly replied that we can relax and that all 3 games would be streamed online from Storrs.....I quote,"There will be a stream of all three games. The video link will be available at our athletic website (uconnhuskies.com) in a similar location to that on UNH’s website. When you go to the women’s ice hockey schedule on our website and scroll down to Friday’s game. If you click on that game, the video link will appear in the side bar (it will say “watch” with a little video camera icon next to it) So there you have it......I know all of the Eagle, Gopher, Bobcat, Crimson, Terrier, Badger, Golden Knight, Huskies, Black Bear, Big Red, Catamount and Friar fans were waiting with baited breath for this news.....Go you Wildcats!
