UNH: What to expect in 2015

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

And all the BU players play for Syracuse.

Ah, so that's it. Ferrara sounded familiar.

I thought maybe they used a box from last year, but none of the UNH/BU games were 3-2.

And Boucher scored on the pp today too, LOL.

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Well aside from the prognostication, I thought UNH played a great 2 periods! Some outstanding individual efforts along with some impressive team play, especially on the PP....but with that said, we looked pretty pooped with BU easily skating around us, leaving Vilma pretty much on her own in the third.....however along with the win vs. Vermont, it was a different UNH squad this weekend, making strides as a team....as I alluded to in my last post, I think that being on the road helps a team solidify and find its center, which it looked like today.....if I had a vote, I'd start skating 4 lines so when we do get to the playoffs, we can roll everyone out and stay fresh, along with the experience gained thru the season.....anyway, a great 2 periods UNH.....now on to the next HE battle....🤓

I suspect that they're not rolling 4 lines because the talent just isn't there. They need Curtis to get as much time as possible to remain somewhat competitive.

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Sorry Freak but that's not the answer....she can't be playing 30 minutes a game! Any playoff team needs to have a balanced attack....you have to have at least 3 competent lines to succeed at the D-1 level.....and then there's the question if those who are playing are the best answer....many think not! The talent is there, don't kid yourself......

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

1-8-0 suggests that the talent is lacking. And let's be honest, a playoff team in this case means "didn't finish in last place."

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Talent is there, bench coaching isn't.

Well I didn't want to go there, because what I have to say will probably be extremely unpopular, but since you brought it up...

I have a huge problem with how the post McCloskey coaching search went. The story I'd heard was that Coach Wood was brought in to be Mac's eventual replacement. He was the primary recruiter, and was just getting his recruits into the system. Arguably his recruits are/would be the best players on the team. His first real recruiting class seems to be 2012 (he was hired summer 2010). This included Crossley, Armstrong, Curtis, Carlson and Mork.

Yet as near as I can tell, Scarano let Wood go apparently for expressing support for McCloskey on facebook, while losing two of his best recruits.

Meanwhile, it appears that they hired a coach solely because she has the correct genitals and was available, because it certainly wasn't due to her track record as head coach. At best, this coach seems to me to be Katie King without the recruiting ability.

That said... Neg rep away.

How do you really feel?! Lol. You used zero sugar coating that's for sure. Hey now you might get labelled "a pessimist" for posting your honest feelings like I did on the RPI thread. ;)

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Freak should be okay shelfit, as he lives and is talking about the state university of "The Live Free or Die" state!🤓🤓

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

First off, kudos to the Friars for playing hard and skating to their first win of the season! With that said though, I can only surmise that UNH, with a 2 goal lead going into the third, once again did not have enough in the tank to pull out the road win....only 5 shots in the third! And while Vilma wasn't a rock in nets, she never saw the puck for the first 3 goals, and had 3 back checkers all leave the stick down on the winning goal despite surrounding the player! We've got to get into shape! UNH left a win on the road today.....

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Well it seems that UNH was as annoyed in losing that game in Providence as most of us, since they've come away with a nice road win with a defensive effort......but all we can deduce comes from the box score since UConn has NO online video stream offered!! Are you kidding me? We're not talking about a small D-3 school with no cash! How in the world do they recruit from anywhere, when the parents ask if they can watch their daughter skate! What a joke UConn is....maybe they should require streaming capabilities before adding them to HE! Anyway in getting back to UNH, in giving up single digit SOG/period helped freshman Kyra Smith to her first win and shutout as a Wildcat! So a crucial 2 points out of the weekend.....with 2 games up next vs BC! We've shocked them before so no reason we can't do it again.......right Tony TT. 😉

I know it's two against one on the reporting here, but has someone changed the criteria for a shutout? Do tell:p

New Hampshire Edges Past UConn, 2-1

UConn led the game in shots by just one, registering 22 compared to UNH's 21. Belanger made 19 stops for the Huskies, while Wildcat goaltender Kyra Smith tallied 21 saves for her first career win and shutout with UNH. - See more at: http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/women/recaps16.php?wconunh1.n08#sthash.IRh1tTZI.dpuf

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Thanks DC for letting me know where I got that phrasing from....still my bad :( !
On another front, how did this thread lose all but 3 or 4 of it's posters? Any thoughts......

Hmmmmm, let me count the ways

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

If anyone is interested, a search of hockey on TV this week turned up the UNH - Harvard game this Wednesday on NESN+

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So tonight is another mid-week meeting with Harvard......given that UNH has made incremental adjustments and improvements, tonight's game might catch the Crimson looking past UNH.....with #5 on the horizon, with UMD to follow, maybe this will be a trap game for them! As DC noted as we talked after the 2nd BC game this past weekend, UNH did a very good job keeping BC on the edges and away from the scrums in front of the net....Kyra Smith did a very good job as a freshman seeing the power of BC for the first time....a great Carpenter goal along with a typical Skarupa tally were to be expected so all in all I'm being the optimist again and for the reasons mentioned, am hoping that UNH really puts the petal down tonight and sneaks out of Cambridge on the QT......
