UNH: What to expect in 2015

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Can't wait for the new season to start obviously, but aside from that I'll get to see one of UNH's best defenseman back on Lake Whitt in Courtney Birchard! I believe she is on the coaching staff at Oakville, but will skate tomorrow....either way it will be great to see her again! Season #41 for UNH! Best of luck to the Wildcats this year....we were a goal away from the HESemi's last year, so hopefully we'll find it this season!

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

Nice comeback in the third to show some fight even if it was exhibition....which isn't accurate because Oakville has some excellent players with a lot of talent waiting to be developed! But as I said earlier, I kind of focused on watching Courtney Birchard, and the one word that comes to mind is smooth! Such a talented skater.....and great to see again......looking forward to the season's start on Friday vs Maiine.

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So I missed the first 10 minutes, but it seems goals week be hard to come by again this year. UNH seemed to be rolling just 2 lines for the third against Oakville and still not creating a lot of chances. Against D1 opponents?

On a good note, Curtis still looks a cut above everyone on the ice, and Wenczkowski stood out to me as well.

Legs seemed to be a bit lacking in the third despite the comeback.

That's what Hux and I seem to believe....but whatever the cause, it's about time! Along with the replay ability, I'm hoping that an upgrade of the online streaming product will bring in much needed sponsorship money! Let's face it TTT, it's pretty impressive a pregame intro down at Conte.....

According to the key donor, it's so he can watch replays of goals he misses when he isn't paying attention to the game.

Excited to be attending my first ever women's game tonight at the 'Whitt! Go 'Cats!!!

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

So it's been a couple of days since we lost to Maine in our opener....I doubt anyone was very happy or impressed with the play that night but obviously plenty of time....I think my biggest disappointment was that we never reacted to Maine's physical play.....while I saw way too many times that they played the body, with no call, it was being out muscled in the slot, or along the boards that bothered me because UNH didn't respond.....this was how Maine played last year so it shouldn't have been a surprise to see the same thing again! Now I see why league games are played after a few non-conference games, because given HE, these are a big 2 points! Oh well....Onward!

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

I thought that the 'Cat's looked much better coming out of the gates in the first period. After Maine's first "goal" :P the 'Cat's seemed to let Maine dictate the flow of the game. Oh well...it's early. I'm confident that this team will get better and better. Really impressed with the frosh, and also very happy with the crowd that came out for the game.

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

You can thank the crowd to Erik and Kristin White, Taylor's parents.....they sold about 250 tix! And held a tailgating get together before the game....interesting what can be done when the care and interest are there....awesome job! Also keep in mind that Homecoming did have a few extra folks on campus.....

It's always about the extra care and interest.

Actually, it was around 310 tickets. It was good to see the Litter Box quite crowded. I counted 90 plus students, though the resident trumpeter/cheer starter was missing.

Nice big video boards and it never occurred to me to look up at it.

Re: UNH: What to expect in 2015

A nasty bug was running through my household and kicking my *ss Friday night. I did hear a cowbell over the audio stream.

That said, the trumpet and signage may be more infrequent this year, as I will be toting along the little Wildcat and his gear more often.

This team can't buy a break.

1-0 lead and carrying play. Then a UNH Dman pokes the puck away from Vilma trying to cover it on the pp and it goes right to a Lindenwood player. Then a deflection off A UNH stick in front pops it over her shoulder. Then in complete collapse, Lindenwood pots number 3. Go into the locker room down 3-1. Ugh.

Well, Miss or Mrs. Pelletier :), like a team that only lost 3 of their top 10 scorers and 1 important D to graduation and has 4 known strong recruits coming in. I would expect them to be better next season - close to .500 would be an early projection.

With little scoring and a suspect D at this point, might have to rethink .500.

I wouldn't say the D is suspect, as they are much improved over last season. They are faster, move the puck better, and don't look like turnstiles when the other team rushes the puck.

The issue has been an inability to finish, and defensive lapses by the forwards.

They are a young team. Once the newbies get their poop together they will be alright. However, I think that will take some time and as you have noted, 500 is not likely attainable this season.
