DURHAM — Hockey East announced Monday that five student-athletes on the UNH women's ice hockey team have been named to the 2009-10 WHEA All-Academic Team and that one of those Wildcats — freshman defenseman Katie Brock — was named a Top Scholar-Athlete.
A student-athlete has to record a minimum 3.0 grade-point-average in both the fall and spring semesters to qualify for the All-Academic Team. From that pool of 68 student-athletes, seven were named to the HEA Academic All-Star Team for having the top GPA by position. And four, including Brock, were named the Top Scholar-Athlete for recording the highest GPA in the 2009-10 academic year.
Junior goaltender Kayley Herman was named to the All-Academic Team for the third time in as many years. Senior forwards Micaela Long, Kelly Paton and Shannon Sisk were all feted for the second time. Long and Paton were also honored last season, whereas Sisk made the 2008 team.
Brock recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA in both the fall and spring semesters to earn the three honors — All-Academic Team, Academic All-Star Team and Top Scholar-Athlete.
Herman ranked 13th in the nation in goals-against-average (1.88). In 16 games, Herman went 8-4-3 with three shutouts and a .913 save percentage.

Long's 2010 Hockey East accolades included First Team All-Star, Humboldt Storage and Moving Scoring Champion and two-time Player of the Week; she was also selected to the New England All-Star Team.
Paton ranked sixth in the nation in points per game (1.55) as well as fourth in assists per game (0.97) and 20th in goals per game (0.58); in other statistics, she was 16th in game-winning goals (four) and 19th in power-play goals (six).
The captain led the team in points (51), goals (19) and plus/minus (+16) and tied for the lead in game-winning goals with four. Paton was also second in assists (32) and tied for second in power-play goals (6). Furthermore, she ranked second in shots (128) and fourth in shooting percentage (. 148).

Sisk, the team's assistant captain, recorded two goals and two assists for four points in 33 games.
