UNH Offseason Thread

Re: UNH Offseason Thread

5-0 UNH. Boston skater appeared to have swept it out, but the ref signalled goal.

Re: UNH Offseason Thread

5-2. Minton makes a great save on a 2 on 0, but can't save the shot off the rebound. No d to clear it away.

6-2 UNH.

Here is a link of the "draft" for the Boston team...

http://boston.cwhl.ca/draft.asp?tid=7

The team at the Whitt today was much smaller. For sure, I saw:

Kacey Bellamy
Sam Faber

I'm pretty sure the shortest on the ice was Lawler.

Saw a girl with an NU logo on her helmet...Lindsay Berman, I imagine.

Not sure on #15 for Boston...her skating style reminded me of Allie Thunstrom, but she wore #9 at BC.

Saw at least one Team USA logo on a helmet...so could've been any of Cahow, Engstrom, Thatcher, or Ruggiero. Also thought I saw a Wisco logo, so that may have been Engstrom.

Boston didn't have their own jerseys and were wearing blue UNH practice sweaters. So unless I recognized them (Bellamy, Faber), or could identify through a helmet logo, it was tough for me to know for sure who was out there.

Cassie Sperry Northeastern

Thought I saw two NU helmets out there.

Was Thunstrom #15? As I said, the way that she skated reminded me of Thunstrom, but the number made me wonder.

Re: UNH Offseason Thread

So, it was hard to take much away from today, imo. The Boston team has some talented players for sure, but it sure looked like they haven't played together much yet. I also imagine that they're still in the process of evaluating for the final roster.

It seemed as the second half wore on, the Boston team controlled more of the time, although UNHs offensive chances were generally quality bids (and a high percentage of goals to shots). The Boston team didn't seem to have many great offensive bids, although their best came later in the game. As expected, the relatively veteran UNH D did a good job of shutting things down even without Birchard.

Individual thoughts....

Allen...beautiful goal and whiffed on sure thing back door. She's becoming a nice offensive presence.

Cuthbert...played up front despite the roster listing. Seemed more aggressive.

O'Neill...nice instincts and hard work on the back check.

Nifty move by Horn on the breakaway. She was all over the ice today.

Gifford and Hunt looked solid out there to me.

With that line-up you would expect a different box score. Will there be a rematch ?.

Re: UNH Offseason Thread

While I enjoy Freak and his helping folks with yesterday's practice, please keep in mind that all it was was a glorified pick-up practice....by no means in existance was that a game or even a scrimmage. Erin's squad had 2 lines, with maybe an extra skater, and as was said, in no way was the roster on the ice the one posted for the Boston team.....so while I also am jonesing for some competitive hockey, please let's keep apples with apples, and let practices simply be a practice.......btw, watching Faber skate again was awesome!!

Re: UNH Offseason Thread

Nice start to the season with an away victory at UConn.....DC, who attended said the team looked fairly impressive for it's first game....I'm sure she'll elaborate when she can.....way to go Wildcats!
