UNH Offseason Contract Edition.

In exactly six weeks to the hour Stonehill (who?) arrives to open Puddycats’ season at the Whitt in an exhibition game in which we will see a brand new goalie or two in action.

Dale's First Annual Preseason Hockey East Poll:

1) BC - still the top dog in HE (sorry BU), contend for the NC again.
2) Maine - surprise of the year (or maybe not), the 'Bears revival continues.
3) BU - perennial HE contender (will loss again to BC for the Lamoriello Trophy).
4) UMass - Minutemen make it back to the Garden and the NCAAs.
5) UConn - Chuck's second favorite squad moves up a couple of notches.
6) Providence - the skating monks languish in the middle reaches of the HE standings.
7) Northeastern - mostly "yipping" heard from the DogHouse this year.
8) UNH - MS7 proves the prior season was a "free-agent" fluke and crawls back into his cave, and off media radar.
9) UML - the once bright light of Lowell continues to fade.
10,11) Merrimack, VT - take your pick here - though if pressed to make a BOLD choice, I'll go with Merrymac!

If you can't tell, getting itchy for the new season to being, for better or worse!

Yee of little faith in Jared da Whale (Jakob Hellsten V2), eh?

I have us replacing UMass-Flagship for fourth with trips to da Garden and the NCAA’s. Following years, all bets are off.

(1) UMaine - and to think, all it took was a visionary AD willing to call time on a mediocre HC ...
(2) BU - well, at least there is one less AOC still in the mix (unfortunately, it's the most insufferable one)
(3) BC - post-York Era has to date resounded with lots of Lenny "The Rug" Ceglarski vibes (long may it continue)
(4) UNH - time for MS7 to prove he's worth his latest (last?) extension; likely my dumbest pick
(5) Providence - Coach Leaman's program seems to have hit a rut. Can he extricate them? Does he care?
(6) UMass Lowell - Uncle Normie gets his Riverhawks to overperform, not for the first OR last time
(7) UMass Amherst - seems like the Carvel juggernaut has gone the way of his "Fudgie the Whale" treats
(8) Merrimack - Scotty B. somewhow manages to stay in the good graces (barely) of Missus Nigel
(9) Northeastern - proof positive that unlike Coach Barr, great recruiters don't always become great HC's
(10) Vermont - one of these years, the program will rise from the bottom quartile. Not this decade, though
(11) Luce Cannan - taught MS7 everything he knows ... admittedly not much, beyond having your best season in a contract year. Now that he knows BC will never be his, his raison d'etre has left the building. Karma.

OK let's have a little preseason fun with this one. Before reading the linked article below ... what "derogatory nickname" do you think BB used on the Pat McAfee show to spark such "social media outrage"?

Bill Belichick sparks social media outrage with derogatory nickname for Massachusetts - as Patriots fans hit back at legendary former coach. | Daily Mail Online

Yeah, I guessed wrong too ... :D

I am really surprised that you did not get that one, Chuck, as I nailed it, despite not liking the Patriots, Bellichek, or football in general. :-)

Don't get me wrong, Snives ... there was one (stronger) answer I was thinking of. The one BB used ... pretty tame IMO.

Won't go any further here in writing, so as not to deprive the rest of our NH friends of the thrill of participation lol ...

Hey there hockey enthusiasts! Long time no post..won't be long now nice to read the posts of those who kept the flame burnin' over this Summa...

Going to be interesting to see where we will fare in the HE coaches poll...Have been abit out of the loop as of late maybe I've missed it. Read with interest our own internal poll not sure where I stand but do agree its gonna ride on how well da Whale comes out of the vlocks and how fast the brothers MacPherson come along. I remain cautiously optimistic...

On another note my niece played golf with our very own Liam Devlin over the Summer....Looking forward to seeing fellow fans soon!

The coaches' poll won't be anything other than cut-and-paste from last year's standings. It almost always is ... it's not like these guys are doing any independent analysis on any program other than their own. Shocked if UNH places any higher than #7. And all that will mean is that MS7 & Company still are seen as bottom feeders by their competitors. Now that he's gotten his extension, there will be no need to throw him the "life preserver" of an inflated prediction. Bank on it.

Yeah I get that Chuck...can't remember where we were placed last season. No matter gotta come and play. If MS7 thinks he can rest on his laurels (I can't believe I just said that out loud) from last season he's going to be in for a long season.

But...still 'hope Springs eternal' as I begin year 14 following. Excited to visit the Q for the first time and will continue to dream about that long awaited trip back to da Gahden....sigh.

HEA Coaches’ Poll, 12 September 2023: BU, BC, Mac, NU, Yukon, PC, UMass-Bazin, UMass-Flagship, Maine, UNH, UVM.

Actual finish: BC+1, BU-1, Maine+6, PC+2, UMass-Flagship+2, UNH+4, NU-3, Yukon-3, UVM+2, Mac-7, UML-Bazin-3

Yup, other than the top two teams, HEA coaches as an aggregate do not have much of a clue, as Chuck noted. :-)

LOL. Those "laurels" being limited, of course, but nevertheless it appears MS7 is resting fairly comfortably since he inked his new deal. Waiting to get reports on the TDL-financed facility upgrades, as I'm following MS7's lead by resting on my own "laurels" here in Effingwoods, and saving myself the excruciatingly long 15 minute drive to Titletown to inspect the progress in person. I mean, if MS7 isn't worried anymore, why should I?

Omg. I got up early today and saw that Johnny Gaudreau news was trending....Columbus Blue Jackets confirmed he (and his brother Matt) were killed while cycling. Absolutely devastating. No words....horrific loss for their family and for Boston College fans. Beyond heartbreaking.

Stunned.

I believe both were together with the extended family for their sister's wedding. Beyond heartbreaking indeed.

Well August has come and gone and UNH got zero recruits in early recruiting. Let this sink in, Merrimack is out recruiting UNH at this point in time. Sorry for the negativity happy Sunday.

After all the time and energy spent campaigning for his latest extension ... you were actually expecting MS7 to recruit this summer?!? I mean, when is the poor guy allowed to take a four-plus month siesta???

He gets his team halfway up the standings, earns his extension, working his fingers and toes to their nubs and ... this?? I mean, where is the appreciation??? Sixth place not good enough for you ingrates?!?!?

In a word, no. But you knew that.
