UNH Offseason Contract Edition.

The options for former UNH star JvR have yet to materialize, and camp is only a little over a month away ...

Should Flyers Consider One Last Dance with Former Top Draft Pick? (phillyhockeynow.com)

Thanks for the linked story. The Flyers probably makes more sense to me as a landing spot for JvR this coming season than the Canucks, the Utah Hockey Club, or the Bruins, as it would be closing a major career circle. Of course, I would prefer to see JvR return to Boston for another season.

Today's trivia question: per the linked video of "Neon Knights" from Black Sabbath's Heaven & Hell album ...

... what is the New Hampshire link to this circa 1980 version of the band?

Ronnie (Padovonic) James Dio was born in 1942 to Italian-American parents in New Hampshire before growing up in Cortland, New York. I had to look it up.

Hello all! Read today that former UNH dman Benton Maass has become an asst coach for Lindenwood.

Hope all are well! Won't be long...

Wow, impressive jump into Div 1 assistant coaching position at age 25 with just two years of ECHL play with Carolina Stingrays.

Good work, Snives! The key is knowing where to start. RJD became a legend, but it all started in Portsmouth.

Interesting news on the Maass hire at Lindenwood. He'll have a long runway, but lots of time to cover it ...

Ryan Soderquist turned 26 on 30 December 2002 during his first of 21 seasons as HC at Bentley. Benton will turn 26 on 25 November 2024 during his first season as assistant coach at Lindenwood.

I drove through Lindenwood by accident when I was trying to avoid downtown construction in St. Louis on I-70 during my last drive to Colorado in June 2022. Maybe we can get Lindenwood on our schedule one of these years?

Looked at their sched and they will play Stonehill at some point...so maybe check that one out if you're so inclined lol. Hoping to see you at the Bentley game!

Yup, looks like we are hosting Stonehill for an exhibition game the weekend before Bentley’s visit. Then we host LIU on November 9th. Stonehill plays LIU eight times again this season. We also host RIT for two. If you cannot beat the cupcakes, YOU are the cupcake.

Good modification of one of my favorite bits, Snives. Hard to believe it's over 6 years now since Dickie U retired.

I would never consider RIT a cupcake, though. I'd love to see them as an addition to Hockey East at some point. Sure, geographically they're a better fit for the ECAC, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. And with Quinnipiac hesitant to abandon the "sweet spot" they've found in the ECAC, Commish Nigel & Co. could do WAY worse than RIT. I mean, I'd love to see SNHU fast-track a hockey program to D-1, but I doubt we see that in my lifetime. I don't see any ECAC candidates ready and willing to switch to HEA. So why not start at the top of Atlantic Hockey?? If HEA ever made an approach to RIT, I can't imagine they would pass up the chance. JMHO.

Yup, MS7 almost has made us forget about Dick’s quest for his NRR. And of course I jest about RIT being a cupcake, at least for UNH, as the Tigers hold an all time 2-1-0 edge, including perhaps our most humiliating defeat that I have witnessed in person, that is the Albany NCAA regional final game loss 6-2 on 27 March 2010, which still seems like yesterday.

MS7 had better hope that Jared da Whale plays like Jakob Hellsten V2 this coming season. But will Rico DiMatteo get the net at the Whitt on 9 November when LIU visits?

Does anyone know the status and timeline for the Whit renovations? Is it fully funded?

You would think the University (especially the AD) would be all over publicizing progress and positive developments on this front. One needs only to look at the UMaine thread to see how closely their most ardent fans follow stuff like this. I checked on-line just now, and there is virtually nothing - nada - out there regarding anything on the work that's supposed to be done to spruce things up, since almost a year ago to the date.

There is more recent info on TDL's purchase of the McIntyre site in Portsmouth, but even that's over 9 months old.

TDL seems to be a busy guy ... then again, who can blame him, living on his private island, balancing all this?

It leads me to believe that the funding is a serious problem. Even with the Key Auto money and the money from the state, I think they're $6 million short. If so, is it possible the project will fall through?

My thinking as well. My guess is the project has been delayed. If funding remains an issue, perhaps the project is scaled down?

University of New Hampshire announces major renovations coming to Whittemore Center (Updated: 7:32 PM EDT Aug 17, 2023):
https://www.wmur.com/article/unh-whi...shire/44845558
"The school hopes to break ground within a year."

So it appears to be unanimous then ... and here many (most?) of us were, thinking that MS7 had the backing of TDL and other powerful folks in the UNH alumni community. Yet this "key" (Key?) project is now officially behind schedule, and no one is saying a word. Maybe TDL reallocated some of his dollars earmarked for the renovation project to fund MS7's extension? Or he's shepherding some of those funds to more ambitious plans for the McIntyre project?? Or maybe he needed to upgrade the security for his private island lair???

Inquiring minds would very much like to know ...
