On the ice, Kessel seems to enjoy himself, is hard on himself when he doesn't accomplish what he intended, and talks regularly with his teammates. I don't know if his teammates want him as their leader.

It doesn't matter much to me whether Kessel is the captain, assistant captain, or neither (Thompson and DeSimone had pretty good years without being either) - I just would like him to play one more season for UNH. I can't think of any downside to that.

agree, It would great for the team to have Blake play next year. Certianly being a senior he will be one of the key leaders.

As far as Captians go....the only prediction I'll make is that some maybe surprised by the selection....lets see..

My prediction is they won't have the standard one captain/two alternates that most teams use because......they never do!

Anyone know if Campanale is the first college player to play in the NHL this year. Just based on players who signed contracts after their respective seasons were over? I won't count Dylan Olsen as he left UMD back in january while he was playing in the world jr's. I'm sure if there are any other players who have played in an NHL game, the list would be short.

don't expect it to be long. the isles are as deep as a kiddy pool especially on the blue line. glad to see a boy in blue dressing in the show. he should embrace the experience because its likely he'll be in the AHL or ECHL in the future.

^ I have been unable to locate an attendance number for UNH-St. Francis Xavier on October 5, 2002, the attendance for UNH-U.S. Under 18 Team on December 13, 2002 was 5,576


As a summer project I might try and dump all the data in to a MySQL database and create a web interface so that people can search, sort, etc. all the game info (points, goals, PIMs, etc. too - not just attendances) from 1998-2011 and onward, we'll see.

Midway through the Michigan-North Dakota game and I'm saying to the flat screen - "UNH could have kept up with either of these teams."
And talk about a dead crowd....

From today's Providence Journal:

The search by Providence College athletic director Bob Driscoll for a new men’s head hockey coach will kick into high gear early next week when top candidates are expected to visit the campus for interviews.
The word is that some first-rate coaches –– both pro and college –– are interested.
Driscoll, who is chairman of the NCAA Tournament selection committee and is in St. Paul, Minn., for the Frozen Four, said a couple of weeks ago that he hopes to fill the job within a month.

With the program at a low point, Driscoll simply can’t afford to whiff on this hire.
Here’s a look at some of the names that are believed to be on his list:
• David Quinn, Lake Erie/AHL
• Mike Cavanaugh, BC
• Rick Bennett, Union College
• Paul Pearl, HC

• Scott Borek, associate head coach, New Hampshire, Hockey East.

A 1985 Dartmouth grad, Borek was an assistant at his alma mater before moving on to PC, under Mike McShane, and Brown, under Bob Gaudet.
As the head coach at Colby, Borek was a finalist for the national Division III Coach of the Year Award in 1994.
He was associate head coach at Lake Superior State for one season under Jeff Jackson, and then took over as head coach for five years. Borek was the CCHA Coach of the Year and a National Coach of the Year finalist in 1999-00.
Borek’s wife Cheryl (Stahl) played hockey and softball at Brown.

•Dave Lassonde, associate head coach, New Hampshire, Hockey East.

A goalie at PC, Lassonde graduated in 1983. He started as an assistant at UNH in 1988, moved on to Wisconsin in 1991 and Miami in 1994, then returned to UNH in 1997. Lassonde has been to four Frozen Fours at UNH.

Yeah, I felt that way too. Obviously not being there it's not a certainty, but it looked like MOST of the crowd was rooting for the Sioux (not surprising, since it's only 319 miles from Grand Forks to St. Paul - which is nothing when you live out there). I think it was much more difficult to get there from Ann Arbor (unless you fly), because you have to drive around Chicago (unless you take the UP route). In fact, it was kind of like the UNH crowd in Manchester - when you get behind early, you sit on your hands because you get nervous, and the longer the game went, the more frustrating it got for the Sioux fans.

Other than the one section of yellow the entire arena was in green.

With the quarters it is important to note that through the 2002-2003 series vs Lowell, that the round occurred a week earlier than it has since. As such, the students were not on Spring Break as they are today. UNH didn't have a student presence at the Fleet anyway, so the Spring Break factor wasn't noticeable then, as it is today during the quarters.

It doesn't negate the point that enthusiasm for the program is down, but it does show that some of the decline in THIS particular case is one of scheduling.

I was there, and that was the case. Huge UND crowd, we were waiting for them to score just to see the place explode. Crowd was pretty good for the championship game, Michigan turnout was pretty pathetic.

I was there as well and seriously, they played that song at least twice per period.
