UNH @ Lowell 11/8

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

The students should be there so I hope the atmosphere is good. Bob Ellis went on a 2 minute tirade last night on the pregame show talking about how the game is going to be on TV. He is awesome.
What exactly was the direction of said tirade? Guessing it was something like 'We really need to get the place filled' ?

If it was during the post game, you'd have no idea what Bob was saying because all he does is chew and swallow in between words.

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

I believe that during the time the Whitt was being built, the NCAA had something you wouldn't call a "directive," but more of a "suggestion" that, if you happen to be building a new arena, it ought to be Olympic-sized. Incidentally, Mariucci Arena, where Minnesota plays, is also 200x100, and was opened only 2 years before the Whitt. That same year, Mullins Center was opened, and it's 200x95, not quite Olympic-sized, but closer than many college rinks.

iirc its a directive that became a suggestion when Jack Parker decided to do whatever he pleased.

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

just found this in the NCAA rulebook:

SECTION 2. a. As nearly as possible, the dimensions of the rink shall be
200 feet long and 85 feet wide. The corners should be rounded in the arc
of a circle with a radius of 20 feet.

...so I have no idea.

I'll be there with my lovely bride...however, we'll be sitting with friends who are River Hawk fans, so it should be interesting. ;)

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

I honestly have no idea. Snively certainly wasn't a large ice surface.

Wasn't the Snively ice surface an Olympic sheet as well? My memory's a bit fuzzy, but I thought that when they were building the Whitt, they were going to keep the same ice dimensions that existed at Snively?

Could be worse. Could be surrounded by fans of the Goons.

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

Sweet, can't wait to catch this one on ESPNU!

Oh, wait a minute......women's college soccer......in overtime. Fantastic. Anyone know if women's soccer overtime is shorter than OT in lacrosse?

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

Final score:

UML 6 - UNH 3

3 more PP goals give up by UNH today for a total of 7 on the weekend. That is nothing short of horrendous. The PP was brutal again this weekend too, and I'm sorry but Foster just is not getting it done. Another 6 goals today is just too many. On that note though, we lost to another very good team in UML and really I wasn't expecting we'd walk out of Tsongas with a victory today. Congrats to the Riverhawks and their fans, and best wishes the rest of the way.

Re: UNH @ Lowell 11/8

FYP.

Man how bad are the rest of the goalies in the country right now?

That was one of Barry's many gems today. At one point, he said that if JVR had just stayed for his second year, UNH would have more offensive firepower.

Just imagine if ESPNU aired the first period...what more we could have learned!
