UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Would be shocked if Philbrick left given what I know but stranger things have happened. Wouldn’t be surprised about Gagnon though
What do you know? Seriously. Why post “given what I know” and leave us hanging? Happens all the time here. Not just you.
Rhetorical question. I know the answer.

I also agree with this sentiment, and think there is less good will backing MS7 now compared to 2023-2024 timeframe.

I would point to the pervasive pessimism on this board, comments on social media, and also certain chants that have been spoken at the Whitt this year. I don’t recall it being AS widespread as it is now compared to then… Perhaps it is just my own bias, but it seems the “winds of change” are stronger now than they have been in the MS7 era…

If we lose big on Wednesday, I put it at 50-50 Souza comes back. If he wins and we get demolished in the quarterfinals, I put it at 70-30 he comes back. If we miraculously make it to the garden, I put it at 99-1 he comes back for the last year (at least).

If we run the table through HE and NCAAs - lifetime contract for sure!
Sooo many people sent in letters BEGGING for a coaching change the last time the contact came up but were ignored. I heard from reliable sources some donors said they would walk away from the proposed renovations if he wasnt renewed.
I dont know how true that is regardless of the source of info. Its complicated but from at least my own optics having followed UNH athletics for a few years? They don't fire coaches especially those who bleed blue blue blue. We aren't BU or BC with athletic endowments that could fund our government lol...who can DEMAND a change and by God they get it...
You are probably correct in what happens to the AD is going to figure into all of this but gee I just don't see him leaving this (or any) season.
I do like your 'run the table' scenario. Just get to the Garden...many of us arent getting any younger 😆

Philbrick is a NH native I would be surprised to see him leave.

My big worry (and I imagine the same for most) is Lavins. The guy gives 100% every game no matter the score, and to the detriment of his own health. If I were MS7 and coming back next year, slap the C on him immediately after the season ends. I’d automatically give Fitzgerald an A as well. He becomes the C in my book if Lavins leaves.

Hey Chuck... I seem to recall you like Limericks... I just whipped one up, what do you think?

There once was a wildcat who hailed from DC
Turns out his swamp smells like poo and like pee
With rumpswabs and bucks
He happily dropped pucks
When nobody liked him, ’twas pot roast for he

I was playing with a second line that had to do with services and ended in knees to get the rhyming but I figured the board admin would have an issue

you can put 2 and 2 together and get 4. You know emily goes to the games based on her posts. She probably has gotten to know the family or friends of the family or may even know the player since before UNH. What she knows is what those people have said. Maybe how much he has always loved the school. Is it firm, no, is she going to say his mom told me 'he has always loved the school and it has been his passion to play for this team', no.

Well anyways…will be going down to Conte Forum on Wednesday. Happy they chose that arena rather than Walter Brown. I know we were embarrassed by them a few months ago but I actually think we have a decent shot at beating them.

Marty likes playing for Souza so would be surprised if he left. But I’m sure he has plenty of options if he wanted to…

This.

I thought this was the best matchup of the likely ones. Of course that was before Northeastern beat BC last night. I thought the Huskies looked like they had quit on the season last week against Maine. Then again the Eagles haven't had much fight in them lately. This conference is pretty bad this season.

Well I'm thoroughly disgusted with our state government right now on a multitude of issues. Especially the push for a lack of state support with education...the 'open enrollment' mess...but I try not to clog up this board with all of that junk.

This is what bothers me the most and Norbert is correct the $30M from rooms and meals is an idiotic reduction. Education is the single best investment that can be made and it does have to be sensible education more Engineers and Scientists, as a society we only need so many art history and fine arts majors. We as a society can't let kids "chase their passion" if there is no way they can make money on it after college.

And folks...there isnt going to be one...this is one thing I am probably going to be right about. Let the eye rolling commence. 🙄

I believe there is only one way MS7 is done this year. If he walks away and that only happens if he is so miserable he wants out of a $240k contact knowing he is unlikely to get anywhere near that in hockey ever again. UNH is not going to fire him and eat the contract, unless somebody is walking through that door with $10-20M+ and only gives it, if $240k of it buys out the coach.

Speaking of coaches, wanted to congratulate Nathan Davis on his second consecutive TWENTY LOSS season at UNH. Going back to his time at Bucknell he has four twenty LOSS campaigns in the last five seasons. The exception is his first year in Durham when he inherited the Conference Player of the Year from his predecessor. Hard to fathom that UNH basketball has had a conference POTY more recently than the hockey program has.

Was rooting for this match up over Merrimack, although MC would be way more convenient. Agree on your point about HE this season. Not sure what’s happening but will make the playoffs interesting. Really can’t even make a prediction about who could win the championship this year.

I’ll be shocked if UNH fires MS7 despite the protestations on this board. Maybe the self described smartest guy in the room has inside knowledge from his contacts at the U.

Maybe knowing the family and how much they like to watch him play. Or working at a college bar where college kids may go?

He is MS7's chosen pet according to sources inside and outside the program. He fawns over #6, for good reason, but ignores the vast majority of his other players by having Stewie and Giuliano facilitate all communication and coaching.

And, yes. Marty does have options for next season.

Mention was made a few pages back lamenting the absence of former posting regulars who've drifted away for one reason or another. One of those regulars was UNH alum and Wildcat uber-fan "dabigbadcow," who some of you may know is now the Head Coach of the Franklin Pierce women's hockey team in Rindge, NH. He's the only coach the FPU women's team has ever had, as he literally built the program from scratch after its formation as a DivII Independent in the Fall of 2012. Last night the Lady Ravens defeated St. A's 2-0 to win the NEWHA Tournament title and reach 23 wins - the most in team history - and with it the program's first ever auto-bid into the NCAA Tournament (they also won the Tournament title in 2022, but were ineligible for the NCAAs as they were still transitioning into DivI). That FPU defeated St. A's for the title is the hockey equivalent of "what goes around, comes around," as in 2020 the Hawks beat the Ravens 2-1 in the 5th overtime of the NEWHA Tournament semi-final, the longest game - still - in NCAA women's hockey history. I'm so very proud of all that Dave has accomplished at FPU, a tiny school of fewer than 1700 students that now gets to prove - at long last - its mettle against the Big Girls in DivI women's hockey, starting with Quinnipiac on Thursday night. All of us here bleed Wildcat blue/white, but I hope some of you will join me in giving Dave and his team a celebratory High Five and Good Luck vs. the Bobcats. Go Ravens !!
