Philbrick is a NH native I would be surprised to see him leave.

My big worry (and I imagine the same for most) is Lavins. The guy gives 100% every game no matter the score, and to the detriment of his own health. If I were MS7 and coming back next year, slap the C on him immediately after the season ends. I’d automatically give Fitzgerald an A as well. He becomes the C in my book if Lavins leaves.

This right here. I am fine with anyone else leaving but losing Lavins would be huge had so many intangibles you can’t

He is MS7's chosen pet according to sources inside and outside the program. He fawns over #6, for good reason, but ignores the vast majority of his other players by having Stewie and Giuliano facilitate all communication and coaching.

And, yes. Marty does have options for next season.

What struck me the most in the game last night (that, by the way, was quite winnable until the non-call on Ring) was when the coaches messed up getting KC off the ice to at least have a shot at getting it to OT. Then shortly after a gift from the Ref's (because they knew they handed the game to UMA) negating a too many men on the ice call, UNH had a face off in the UMA zone with a couple minutes to play and KC was stranded mid ice looking for guidance and no one from the coaching staff even thought about letting him know what to do at that point (he literally had his arms in the air). I have really tried to give MS7 all the benefit of the doubt, but it was at that point that I sensed his head is clearly not in the game at such a critical time. He talks a lot about structure, and I do believe the design is sound, but you need to win the margins and their margin is slight. That is where coaching can make a difference. The coaching staff let them down last night.

Wasn't paying attention last night to this but heard the whistle and the ref say it would be a center ice faceoff for a premature goalie substitution. Watched it back and there were clearly 6 UNH players on the ice plus Chauvette. Apparently there is a rule that if this happens, they just blow the whistle immediately, no penalty, and a neutral zone faceoff. Never heard of this rule before but I guess I've also never seen the scenario before.

They showed the UNH bench reacting to a replay of the hit on Ring and they were not happy. Souza of course hardly reacted. Any other coach would have been screaming at the ref, which I know doesn't change the result, but at least it shows some fight for their team. Even the athletic trainer could be seen visibly angry...

Was sitting 3 seats down from Coach Umile and he was livid to say the least!! Every coach reacts differently...I mean I saw Nate Leaman jump up and down like a mad man this season lol

Mention was made a few pages back lamenting the absence of former posting regulars who've drifted away for one reason or another. One of those regulars was UNH alum and Wildcat uber-fan "dabigbadcow," who some of you may know is now the Head Coach of the Franklin Pierce women's hockey team in Rindge, NH. He's the only coach the FPU women's team has ever had, as he literally built the program from scratch after its formation as a DivII Independent in the Fall of 2012. Last night the Lady Ravens defeated St. A's 2-0 to win the NEWHA Tournament title and reach 23 wins - the most in team history - and with it the program's first ever auto-bid into the NCAA Tournament (they also won the Tournament title in 2022, but were ineligible for the NCAAs as they were still transitioning into DivI). That FPU defeated St. A's for the title is the hockey equivalent of "what goes around, comes around," as in 2020 the Hawks beat the Ravens 2-1 in the 5th overtime of the NEWHA Tournament semi-final, the longest game - still - in NCAA women's hockey history. I'm so very proud of all that Dave has accomplished at FPU, a tiny school of fewer than 1700 students that now gets to prove - at long last - its mettle against the Big Girls in DivI women's hockey, starting with Quinnipiac on Thursday night. All of us here bleed Wildcat blue/white, but I hope some of you will join me in giving Dave and his team a celebratory High Five and Good Luck vs. the Bobcats. Go Ravens !!

I feel MS7 has been more reluctant to pull KC recently (as long as he can) as UNH almost always seems to give up the ENG shortly thereafter… UNH seems to play best at 5v5 as we have seen how many SHGs lately? Same goes for 6v5 where we have seen many instances of the opposing team literally possessing it in our end for a decent chunk of time.

There’s just no identity on offense. So when you go into these situations where you have the upper hand (man-wise) they just seem to aimlessly pass it around and hope for the best…. Not a good way to succeed in getting the equalizer in my opinion.

Another who I have concern for leaving is Gagnon (mentioned earlier) as I imagine he will be sought after for his superb FO skills. I could see a top 5 team in one of the major conferences very interested in that.

Also Ryan MacPherson. He’s a draft pick and I thought showed marked improvement in the second half working on the line with Skrastins. I know his brother went back to the juniors this year, so perhaps wherever he ends up Ryan will follow?

I have a gut feeling if Oliver leaves he may become the next Sardarian…

I also really hope Carr stays. I thought him and Philbrick really grew together in the 2nd half and I think they could form a top 1-2 pairing for the next few years as they continue to work/grow together.

Also, on a somewhat related note. Anyone have word on the Jared Whale situation? Do we think he will get a redshirt year based on his playing time? And if so, would he want to come back?

I don’t believe not playing allows him to redshirt. He’s dressed for all but one so unless there is some weird rule he probably can’t apply.

Vividly remember Dave a/k/a dabigbadcow standing alone in the corner closest to the ice in a myriad of rinks around the Northeast, hands in his coat pockets. sizing up the games from as close as possible. He was close pals with Josh Gibney ("Gibber") who was also a regular on here, and was the official or unofficial photographer of UNH Hockey, back when photography was still a thing. That was all during the Golden Era, almost a full generation ago. I couldn't be happier for a guy like Dave who even then had a clear passion for the game, and obviously had a plan that he was able to put into place. Must be incredibly rewarding.
