UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Last weekend I got a new one, I honestly don't remember how the FoH came up in the conversation. The guy I was talking to has been around UNH hockey since he was a pre-teen helping around the rink/team in the pre Rube Bjorkman days.

What I got back just killed me... (rough quote) "The NC 2A made rule against single sport booster clubs and the FoH had an exemption as long as Richie was coach". So a couple things about that rough quote. Not many call Umile, Richie. You would occasionally get Jack Parker or Mike McShane in some interview refer to Dick Umile as Richie, so that caught me by surprise. On the other hand I do not believe for one second that the NCAA would make an exception for Dick Umile so this sounds to me like BS from BS.
P.S. very weird that last week during the BC game Bjorkman and FoH came up in conversations and then echoed on here
Great story, JB. I think that one of my two cousins (both retired to Bow Lake) who plays golf with Umile still calls him Richie, but I will ask him.

So, pre-Bjorkman days would have been the outdoor Batchelder Rink, with the chain link fence above the boards. A lot of pucks made it over fence into the snow banks, not to melt out until spring for us kids to collect. 🙂

Pretty bad once again…I could only watch the second half of the game, and they couldn’t generate grade A chances. Bad turnovers, bad puck handling - how many times did they leave Chauvette out to dry there?! The announcers even said this could have easily been 4 or 5-1. That last save he had was incredible. SportCenter Top 10 worthy.

They started to lose the face off battle before the Leclerc goal there in the third. He has been a little bit of a bright spot in this recent slog… I wonder how close to 100 career points he will get? I think he’s in the mid 80s now.

If UNH plays like this again tomorrow, it will be an easy sweep for Merrimack, and likely similar chants to last week…

When is UNHs next win?

Not much to say about this one. Felt we came on as the game went on. D mistakes...penalties (LeBlanc was on our butt all night...terrible embellishmemt call on Walsh after he was cross checked) but that's immaterial.

At least we didnt get shut out as Cy continues to score. We are driving home safely.

Agree with ref and flag up on all points. Ronans penalty was just horrible. Glad to see Cy continue his scoring “streak”. Easily could have been 6-1 without Chauvette making some incredible saves. Cam Macdonald not in the lineup tonight. Can’t say why because someone will get mad that I don’t back it up with my source. Thought overall we were just sloppy. and my god is the power play awful.

Also noticed this is at least the 3rd week in a row (maybe more) that Stewart is not on the bench coaching. I understand the whole out recruiting thing but find it strange to be missing this many games in a row

💯 on all points! MC played.loose we played tight tight tight. And yeah we are wondering about Stewey too...

Heard that 40 UNH hockey alums are coming to the game tomorrow. Hope the team gets a W for them...

Hey Ref. The 2nd half collapses seems to be a theme of Souza coached teams. I've seen better offensive structure out of pee wee teams and it's very frustrating. Their now averaging under 2 goals a game and that's very pathetic. On the bright side......crickets...:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Yup. As per the 2nd half collapse? We lovingly refer to it as the 'Hockey East portion' of the schedule. They can't compete it seems...

Perhaps if tonight we get embarrassed in a similar fashion to the last 5 games, some of these alumni will step up and say something to the AD about how far the program has fallen… chants similar to last week from the student section may also resonate with some of them…

Tonight looms very large. If we get shutout again at home I believe that would make 3+ games with no fish hitting the ice (last weeks goal call back notwithstanding). Could this be the straw that breaks the camels back with MS7? What do people think are the chances the AD may install Jimmy T as interim for the rest of the year?

Time to wait and see…
