UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

At what point do we cease the same tired tales about "needing the brand new, shiny object" and we will get over the hump. Just Excuses! Stop the BS!!

Want Proof? Watch the ESPN 30 For 30 about John Calipari - One and Not Done. See what a REAL coach AND motivator can do and don’t give me the "he is a cheater" line. WATCH about how he built UMass basketball. Hard work, Drive, Sell your vision, Don’t back down, Rise Above.

Calipari's success wasn’t because of some shiny new locker room or weight room. UMass played in the Curry Hicks CAGE, built in the 1940's. UNH, as in the juggernaught Univ of No Hoops squad, beat them at the Cage in 1985. Lost to them by 2 the following year at Lundholm. Calipari shows up in Amherst in 1988 - The only road we are taking here is REFUSE TO LOSE!! Not "we'll try, but if the lockers had birch veneer, UNH basketball would NEVER beat us at home."

Man up. Stop whining about what you don’t have. Go out and get What You WANT.
100% agree. Other programs have been successful without the shiny new car in the parking lot. This is a systemic issue with the AD, coach, and coaching style.

Ah, we're back to the chicken and egg question. Wouldn't it be fair to say that the institution and coach must share a vision and work in concert to build a program? I think so. UNH has no vision for hockey anymore let alone a will to execute a vision for success. Blaming it on Souza is silly. He's very much a symptom of the larger problem.
Klinefelter, you basically seem like you are in self-defense mode. He has been here for 10 years, so this is not a new trend. It was his recruiting after leaving Yukon and being given the controls of the team post Umile. Maybe the chicken and egg question is answered. the chicken started this downfall 10 years ago now we have rotten eggs.

He's still convinced I'm in on the Conmy thing, when I'm decidedly not. Talented kid who was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Gotta go for it.

But I vouch for the folks who have the info, because I sorta know where they're getting it from, so "Buford" is added to the "Conmy list". Genius (not)!
It is that twisted chromosome he can't shake. He is a talented kid, but did not fit. not a knock on anyone really, sometimes personalities just don't meld together.

I am not sure you understand organizations. In this instance the Org - aka Hockey Team needs to have a leader lets call him a GM. (instead of coach) That GM needs to have a vision for his business unit and a "winning" strategy. If the GM doesn't get results from the "winning" strategy, the GM gets replaced. The AD in this case is a VP or Exec VP has multiple GMs (18) running multiple businesses of different importance. The university President is the CEO of the conglomerate with a bunch of VPs/EVPs/CFO/etc.

In a big organization the CEO set a high-level strategy with high-level motivations and it is still up to each GM to have their own winning strategy and the motivate and lead their unit through whatever market conditions exist. Generally when a new GM gets a few wins, shows some promise, they can then get organizational investment. I haven't seen it all, none of us have, and I don't recall a single GM that had been failing for 7 years get big investments in there businesses, instead they get fired. As those investments are based on belief that the winning strategy will work.

Now if your completely unstated point is the UNH President needs to give a sh!t enough to put pressure on the AD to either fix the failing business unit or loose her job... well yeah we actually find something to agree on. The collapse of UNH hockey, once the revenue generating sport that significantly offset the athletic budget has somehow not got the AD in hot water. She is fairly new and the President is as well. My only hope as a fan is given just a little more time, say 16 months, it will come time to find a new coach (errr GM)
Can you please stop applying logic to this board. Klinefelter will not understand.

The problem is that the president has zero concern for the team hence AD Rich gets no heat. My guess is that at the end of the day, the P&L for hockey looks ok with tickets (attendance is not the same), expensive F&B, and corporate sponsorships. Plus they are probably given a line of BS on how hard it is to compete without the shiny locker-room

Wait let me guess the reply...

You will say something like I have never been part of leading any organization, I couldn't possibly know what I am talking about. I am just some hick that knows nothing and I am naive to the realities of the world... or something similar

Completely dismissing you have no idea who I actually am, what I actually do or why I choose to live in New Hampshire.
Stonehill Skyhawks tied Yukon Huskies 3-3 tonight, so maybe UNH will now have the basement in “goals scored above expected” all to itself now? Pretty impressive to be the worst of 63 Div 1 teams in any category, which may not be helpful at contract time for MS7.
Maybe that win Saturday is not that impressive

A penny for Luce's thoughts ... IIRC Stonehill's HC David Berard was UConn's interim HC before Luce was hired to succeed Bruce Marshall, so you gotta think Berard and his guys enjoyed the ride back from Storrs last night, especially after winning the shootout 2-1. Stonehill's 3rd goal was late in the second period, with the improbable scoreline being "PPG Mexico from Orr". But COTY Luce Canaan insists his guys did not take the 1-12-0 Skyhawks lightly, no siree Bob, lol

Reminds me of those "Thanksgiving Clunkers" UNH played in..ha!

Like it or not facilities matter..but so does great coaching.

'If you build it they will come'...we'll see.

Oh, Meathead, you don't actually understand the chicken or egg paradox. LOL. I can't even imagine what you think "six of one, half a dozen of the other" means.

Oh, and similar to Buford, you're posting compulsively about Souza and UNH hockey in the middle of the night. So magnificently creepy and demented of you.

One way to judge a man is to assess the caliber of his critics. Souza looks so much better after reading the creepy, obtuse observations of Meathead and Buford.

Is six of one half dozen of the other what they call a baker's dozen?

Can you please provide the hours at which the message board is open for comment? I was not aware there were restrictions on when you could post. Nor were you the keeper of my time

Good news is they can see some nice facilities when they come to their favorite place on December 5th 😃 after seeing the facilities first hand with the weight room, recovery and sports nutrition rooms you are absolutely right that a nice facility goes into getting good players and players that can recover and perform their best

UNH is doing so well they are running a black Friday ticket sale for the Colgate game. There was at least 10-15 years time that open seats after June/July were a completely foreign concept.

But, hey, let's keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result... note the same thing is the coach because he has already had the "shrink the rink" he needed in 2022 and nothing changed.
