As long as they’re making ‘less than cost of attendance’ salaries and are age appropriate they are eligible to return. At least for now, though I can’t see the NCAA taking any action to take player rights away. Hell, they moved to legalize student-athlete gambling on professional sports just this morning!
Reading the URL on the college hockey news piece indicates there are likely 18 former ECHL/AHL professionals playing college hockey this season, ranging from one to 50+ games played…

this is correct, and 18 might be right if you count the ATOs after a junior season finishes, but those are barely anything- maybe 2 or 3 games and often with little ice time. if we are talking significant pro time, it's maybe 5? there's a salary threshold for them and they go through eligibility center like everyone else. a good chunk of these guys went through something similar for usports too. the first article on this is the Bemidji Pioneer one from Jared Rubado after certified freak of sports nature Tom Serratore released his roster (the morning after i posted a preview of every CHL recruiting class in the CCHA!!! thanks for nothing Tom) and it had 4 new guys on it, including the two guys with pro experience. when asked about how he knew it would work, he said he didn't but he's gonna try anyways just in case it does, and it did. some inspiration came from baseball players who played in pro leagues internationally in the SEC getting eligibility. you'd assume veteran coaches might rankle against all the changes, but apparently Serratore is so excited by all this he's practically aged backwards.You seemed so certain. before someone feels Very Original about a low-hanging joke, no this does not mean connor mcdavid could come to college hockey. everyone has their own takes on it but it's not like they can change it without getting sued to hell and back even more than they already are. people have said stuff about how they should live with their bad decisions made at 20, which is kinda laughable imo because this is punishing players for decisions made at 14/15. if the rule change happened a few years earlier, they would've just gone to college instead of wallowing in the coast. theres a thread on this forum somewhere about it if you really want to get into it but its mostly the predictable reactions.
and yes, i did in fact have a stroke! i didn't notice if i got any dumber though, considering how i was only 3 months old... i seem to be keeping up with this stuff just fine at least.

I think what you will see is a small number heading into NCAA from ECHL mostly. These would be players that aged out of juniors mostly and had to take jobs in ECHL at 21. So now the NCAA is looking at it like… if you weren’t elligible and you didn’t make much money and then you can come to NCAA to prolong your development. I don’t believe we will see any all stars from AHL level coming back. From AHL it would likely be ones on the border of being sent down to ECHL. So Potluck is actually right, NCAA teams can now essentially recruit those players. Though I don’t think you will see them going out of their way to travel to rinks everywhere. In Maine and or UNH’s case, maybe their assistants take in a game once in a while in Portland to see if anyone resembles a former CHL guy that only played a year or two there so far.

While I love UNH hockey, a primary reason I post here to is put the knucklehead bully posters like Norbert (Meathead) and Chuck (Buford) in their place. Social media know nothing cowboys should get a taste of their medicine and called out. Buford and Meathead need to get slapped around. It's actually good for them. Buford's posting lately has been more responsible and respectful. I'll take credit for that.
