UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

I read over the weekend (I forget where) that a Quinnipiac player played in the AHL before attending Quinnipiac. He apparently scored a goal last weekend. Frankly, it surprised me. Can college hockey teams actually recruit players out the ECHL and AHL assuming they meet the NCAA age guidelines? If so, college hockey is undergoing a makeover (it already is due the CHL recruiting, NIL money and 1 yr transfer) that, amongst other things, makes it extremely difficult to determine the quality of incoming recruiting classes. It seems recruiting is taking on a certain wild west element. Nearly anything goes.

The NCAA at this point has become effectively rudderless, as it gets steamrolled from all directions, on a myriad of eligibility issues, in many sports.

In the end, spineless university leaders and top admins got the kind of leadership they deserved. Sad for sports fans, but delicious for fans of irony.

Answers on a postcard on who is in charge of things at the NCAA these days, providing such stellar leadership ... :ROFLMAO:

Underway...

Oliver - LeClerc - Ring
Winters - Gagnon - Lavins
Newcombe - MacDonald - Cronin
Siedem - Skrastins - Turner

(Scratch - DeTurris, MacPherson, Walsh)

Fitzgerald - Carr
DeAngelis - Plandowski
Philbrick - Player
DeHaro

(Scratch - Conn, Hahn)

Chauvette

The Spartans open the scoring with a PP goal just before the midway of the first period, following a hooking penalty by Morgan Winters. Winters redeems himself with a PP goal of his own at 14:02 (assisted by Nick DeAngelis and Sam Oliver). Its Winters' first goal since Nov. 15 of last year (328 days)...

Winters scores again (Alex Carr gets his first assist) 24-seconds into the second to give the Wildcats the lead; Ironically enough, its his first two-gaol game since Nov. 15 of last year (328 days). MSU evened the score just shy of the halfway point. At the end of two, it is...

2-2

* The Spartans have outshot the Wildcats 25-17.
* UNH has a 31-18 faceoff advantage. Cy LeClerc, Felix Gagnon & Colin MacDonald have all dominated their match-ups.
* Kyle Chauvette has 23 saves. UNH defenders have blocked another 21 shots through two periods, led by FR Ryan Philbrick's five.

Wow a great start so far! Winters!!! Lavins!!! Kind of sporadically watching as am abit busy getting stuff together for tomorrow (knee) but like what Im seeing so far...
Looking forward to other perspectives when all is said and done! Let's go 'Catttsssss!

LeClerc puts UNH ahead on a power-play goal (Oliver & Carr assist) with 11:21 remaining! And hits a post moments later. The Spartans kill the remainder of the power play and the team's are at even strength at 10:53 of the third.

Connor DeHaro takes a tripping penalty with 6:41 left. Two more blocked shots and a post kill the penalty, but the Spartans tie the game 20 seconds after the penalty expires.

Marty Lavins (Ring, Winters) on his own rebound with 0:03 to play! UNH wins in East Lansing, 4-3.

* MSU outshoots UNH, 37-26...
* The Wildcats dominate faceoffs 39-24 (Gagnon is 12 for 15, MacDonald is 11 for 16 & LeClerc finishes 13 for 22)...
* UNH blocks 24 shots in support of Chauvette's 34 saves...
* 2-1--3 for captain Morgan Winters...
* Two assists for DeAngelis & Oliver; five total points for CHL imports...

I could only follow live stats while on an airplane, but the Spartans out-attempted UNH 73-46. The blocked shots were big, essentially bringing that number down to 49-46. A good sign for what is hopefully a gritty and hardworking team this season...

Philbrick led the way with five. Carr had three. Winters, Lavins, Gagnon, Newcombe and Skrastins each had two; both of Lavins blocks came on the same sequence as time ran out in the second.

Well I'll be darned...stats say MIState whooped us but the gritty performance was the key. Pretty happy and thanks Dan for the info/ stats. Lots of players contributing in one way or the other. Chauvette is a pleasant surprise.

Tomorrow will be huge. Go 'Cats!
