Lucy has tricked Charlie Brown with her football once again. No apparent sense of urgency by UNH, although I was not there to assess. But I will be there tomorrow night.Like I said...given the history..![]()
Drops us to 26..Colgate is 47. Hope to see you tomorrow!!Lucy has tricked Charlie Brown with her football once again. No apparent sense of urgency by UNH, although I was not there to assess. But I will be there tomorrow night.
This numerical sequence appears backwards to me, but I am probably missing something.26=25=24=23=22=.................
Welcome, FlagUp. At least you have your memories of the good ‘ole days, unlike poor HR.Hi all,
Long time lurker on the thread, but Ive been following UNH hockey for over 25 years. I have fond memories of the late 90s/early 2000 powerhouses, the long string of NCAA tournament appearances, etc.
One of my earliest memories as a kid was watching the Finals against Maine and being devastated at the loss… perhaps that is what drew me to this lifelong fandom though - thinking they would soon be able to get to the top of the mountain after getting oh so close…
There have certainly been other great memories since, the tying goal at the buzzer against NoDak in the NCAA opening round (I believe 08 or 09? I remember JvR was on the team) and then the quick winner in OT by Leblanc comes to mind. Those good times have been few and far between in more recent years though, albeit the recent stretch to close our 2025 was fun.
Anyways, fast forward to tonight. Very tough loss against a team they should have beat. Watching on ESPN they appeared to come out pretty flat and were flat most of the night outside of a few small spurts especially with the second goal. The second goal by Colgate I’m not sure would have gone in it seemed like Philbrick may have helped push it in as he was sliding to the net…
Oh well. Have to forget quickly and move on to tomorrow night. Hopefully they knocked off the rust tonight and get a W tomorrow before the HE gauntlet starts later in January.
Great to finally e-meet all of you after lurking in the shadows for awhile. Let’s hope for a strong finish and (just maybe) a return trip to the Garden this year.
The numbers mean that no year is different. post break regression. find a year where this program had an upswing post break. This numerical sequence appears backwards to me, but I am probably missing something.
At the moment, HEA only has one team in the NCAA’s, so if the regular season were to end right now and Yukon were to win the HEA tourney at the Garden, and Bentley were to win the Atlantic Hockey tourney again, the Falcons would knock BC out rather than face them in the NCAA’s like last March, which I think would be more than worth it. Ha, ha, ha! Good thing that UNH faced Bentley when they did as there is no way that the Cats would beat the Falcons now.
Colgate played em tough and didnt let up. They clearly took advantage of a flat UNH effort. Saw that third goal coming a mile away. 2 posts as well. Beaten to the puck most of the time.Very disappointing game. They did not seem prepared. They also seemed to lose steam down the stretch. Must win tonight.
I can name several recent years in which we played superbly in January. Unfortunately, in none of those years did we continue to play well through February and March. The numbers mean that no year is different. post break regression. find a year where this program had an upswing post break.
And Colgate had not played in over three weeks, since December 6th, so I do not buy the “rust argument.” However, I do buy your “playing down to lesser teams mentality,” which I think goes back long before MS7 as head coach. And I think that this mentality occurs with other better teams also, with PC’s embarrassing lopsided loss last night an example. For years they always seem to “play down” to lesser opponents, and typically play more of their “A” game when a ranked team comes to town. Not sure if it’s just a mentality thing, or they think can squeak by with reduced effort. I often hear the term “trap game” in other sports, but I think last night (and tonight) would fall in that category.
I’m willing to think last night may have also been some rust as outside of Lavins no one had played for 2+ weeks. Still… it makes tonight all the more critical before another bye week and then the HE schedule. They need at least a little bit of momentum for HE or things could get ugly fast.
I can agree with your reasoning behind no rust. I think Colgate brought their “A” game knowing they were going against a superior opponent. Kudos to them for their prep as it paid off last night. And Colgate had not played in over three weeks, since December 6th, so I do not buy the “rust argument.” However, I do buy your “playing down to lesser teams mentality,” which I think goes back long before MS7 as head coach.
