UNH Hockey 2023 Off Season Thread Turn and Face the Strange

Would like to hope that they will announce the incoming class this week, and that they are hopefully on campus. It could appear that Hahn and Lavins have not checked in. Lavins is understandable but Hahn?
Very tough opening 9 games, it will be quite the test. I like the exhibition but have always liked a warm up game. Not sure I will attend. In the past it would have been a must see. Any word on the streaming for this tears HE games?

Pretty sure that Lavins is here, he was at the barbecue last month and sat with us at our table. Very articulate young man and excited to be in Durham, has better grasp of the English language than some of us Americans :-)

Whittemore Center at The Key Auto Group Complex. That’s a mouthful! I guess that’s what a $4,000,000 gift gets you. Hey at least it got Channel 9 to mention the program.

UNH announces major renovations coming to Whittemore Center (wmur.com)

What will constitute the "complex"? Hosting what kind of outdoor events - concerts/shows?? Sounds like Field Hockey is in for some of the upgrades, so I'm guessing HR will be all over this. Just seems to need more details to round this out, because it sounds like WAY more than locker room and arena/rink upgrades.

The question is, does MS7 now get a 3 year extension based on this being the biggest roadblock to top recruits? Time to recruit with this coming and a year of the renovations being in use to see if things turn around.

Scope of the work is definitely larger than expected, at least more involved than I expected. Link on social media pretty much just talks about improvements to the arena (like the WMUR story), not sure if the rest is a "wish list" dependent on fundraising? Although it did mention the Hamel Recreation Center and Whittemore Center will be part of the "newly formed" Key Auto Group Complex.

Doesn't seem too far fetched, and to be fair, these renovations appear to be significant and may actually move the needle on recruiting. Still doesn't mean Souza is the right guy for the job, but it is nice to see some positive buzz being created around the hockey program. When's the last time we've heard anyone in the media really discussing UNH Hockey?

Nice first feather in the cap for AD Rich. Suggests upgrading the hockey programs is a priority.

I believe this was planned before AD Rich came on board. Talking to a trustee there was mention of fixing the seats too but I do not see that mentioned in the articles.

True however, some credit is due to AD Rich for actually snagging a multi-million dollar donor. BTW, what's wrong with the seats?

Some of this stuff should be well underway when AD Rich finally gets around to hiring the new HC next Spring.

I think/hope UNH could better support the new Hoops HC by having The Whitt start hosting his games again too.

IIRC, UNH sold off the basketball floorboards many years ago. Not sure how much $$$ it would be to replace these, but if they aren't included in the current renovation project, I don't see how hoops would be coming back to the Whitt any time soon.

If true, that's too bad. Pretty hard to recruit and elevate the program when playing in high school type gym/fieldhouse. I'm sure the turnover costs (hockey to b-ball and visa versa) is another consideration, especially given low b-ball attendance. For now I'm just glad to see some positive movement on the hockey front.

Interesting to note, UVM's gym is on par with Lundholm, yet somehow UVM is still able to put together NCAA tourney-worthy teams year after year. But....if hoops starts selling out Lundholm on a regular basis, an argument could definitely be made to move them across the street, even if it's for a handful of games initially.

Sorry 'Ref....:-) I am doing well, thanks!

Aw no apology needed. I was late to the gate for this one..haha. As per the field hockey program getting some kind of boost for this new project, I'm interested to
find out how/what that is. Looking forward to the season (s) of both of my fav teams. With the announcement of the Freshman class things are starting to
get moving. That said I'm going to miss the opener (wah) but its for a good cause/baby shower for upcoming grandchild in dec. Think I will be checking in
tho...

To be fair UVM isn’t even really a blip on the NCAA Division I radar, but I get your point.
