MS7 now will argue that he deserves another three-year contract through the 2026/27 season to prove that he can win with upgraded facilities.
... and that, my friends, is the danger here. And there will always be something "missing" facilities-wise, this being a state school competing against a bunch of well-heeled private institutions.
As UNH Hockey fans, we are basically being asked to swallow hard and accept another hopeless year of mediocrity.
At least half of the previous peak fanbase (probably more) has been decimated over the last 20 years, and the primary support system (FOH) has gone with it. Those of us remaining are the hardest of hard-core fans left. Speaking for myself, I don't know if even my nearing 50 year stretch of never switching allegiances with ANY of my teams, no matter how sh!t they became, will make it through this one IF MS7 were to be extended without merit. In 1976, I was SO troubled by the Bruins failing to sign Bobby Orr that I dropped them like the hottest of hot potatoes, even when they were still contending for Cups, and threw my lot in with the Dead Wings (deader than dead at the time). That's my last switch.
UNH has done SO much damage to Hockey, and the sad part is how much of it has been self-inflicted. How bad is it now? I'd rather UNH re-hire Dick Umile than extend Mike Souza ... and frankly I don't want to bother Coach Umile in his retirement. His ship has sailed. But at least his ship left the harbor and enjoyed many conquests over a lot of years. The mere idea that a guy who punched his ticket a decade ago would be a better option than the current guy in charge, that tells you everything you need to know about what a joke the program has become.
Like many before me, I can find better things to spend my time on. I'd hate to do it, but it would be self-preservation.
