UNH Hockey 2023 Off Season Thread Turn and Face the Strange

Kudos to those brave enough to follow Dr. Tommy Hearns' long distance diagnosis of Marvin Hagler ......... I always ask myself, "what would Tommy Hearns do in this situation?"

Watcher, our Kool-aids may not be the same color, but I have to applaud well crafted humor and irony. Brought a hearty chuckle into my afternoon, thank you. Very well played.

As to the Main Stream Media narrative ...... if your response is "both sides," call me when you get the same in the MSM - not just mistakes, but actual intentional falsehoods.

I saw MSM and intentional falsehoods there, and at quick glance, I thought you typed MSNBC. I don't have your phone number to call, but didnt Rachel Maddow make a career out of just that? "Russia Collusion update - Watch my breathless pauses tonight, because my inside sources REALLY gave me the goods to share with you at 8PM."

And speaking of Russia Collusion - Mr Mean Tweets might be arrested for paying off Stormy with campaign funds, but the FEC investigated and never fined his campaign. That is strange?? The HildeBeast and her campaign actually WERE fined $116,000 by the FEC for ....... Russian Dossier Research payments not properly disclosed. Hmmmmmm, but she was never arrested?? Dont take my word, take this "non"-MSM "news" provider.

:-) :-)

PS: Looks like Barry paid even more money to the FEC - $375,000. Hmmmmm again. I dont remember that perp walk, probably wasnt covered by the MSM so it didnt happen. :-)

Hey, that’s my line :>). Seriously did not intend to start a pizzing contest here but I was curious as to whether or not Josh May have been an early victim of the jab. I guess my answer is maybe or an earlier illness took his life. I must admit it is a lively conversation and you cat fans are a lively bunch, more so than those boring Maniacs. ( jk Mainuhs ;);-). Geezus where are friggin emojis

Is it a surprise that Fessenden is in transfer portal-played 25 games

Mildly surprised, but not shocked. He probably read the room, knew Mucinex would get every opportunity to take over the lead goalie role next season, and then made some quick plans somewhere else. I'm only surprised that Souza would have given him the start vs. Providence in the vaunted MBPBEGAM round, depriving his "goalie of the future" at least the semblance of a "postseason" appearance, especially if he even had the slightest inkling Messy Fessy might not be back?

Another potential explanation is that MS7 thought he had a legit shot at winning two games and getting to Boston, and went with the "better right now" option to try to get them there? I think it's fair to say that, in every game since the Winter Break, and in every game that may follow next season, MS7 will be coaching for his UNH job. I have no doubt he's feeling the pressure, and seeing what happened to Coach Herrion recently had to confirm a lot of his well-founded concerns. IIRC there was a lot of emotion on display when they won the final game before the break, so he may not have been assuming his new boss would bring him back after the break??

Barring some stunning developments in the portal or on the recruiting trails in the coming weeks, Mucinex can probably expect to get 80%-90% of the starts next season. "Go get me a contract" is huge pressure to put on the kid ...

... 'Ref I will keep an eye out for the #27 jersey in my travels at Regionals tomorrow! :-)

Spot on Whalers:-) And the “Hildebeast” is a new one on me. Love it!

Unless it happens in the next few days i'm dissapointed there's not more UNH players in the portal.Does this mean Souza is satisfied with this past year? I myself would purge 6 or so.I'm not trying to be a mean person but it should be done.Yes the problem could be replacing them with better options, but if the coaching staff has it's %hit together it can be done ask Carvel.

I have the number as 3. Remember Capper and Mr Winters (an upgraded McAdams and he can produce) will return. The problem as noted is that everyone else will improve.

I posted a chart on the PC thread showing the cumulative winning percentage of every coach since WWII, so I thought I would do the same here:

UNHCoaches.png

As can be seen, Coach Souza is going in the wrong direction. From my research, I've concluded that in almost every case you can determine if a coach will be good after 5 seasons. Most show improvement from their first season, usually improving to 0.500 or better after 4 or 5 seasons. And while some coaches took even longer to reach a cumulative winning percentage of 0.500 or better, they showed other signs of being a top coach in those first five seasons: Coach Sandelin had a 0.471 winning percentage after 5 seasons, but he an excellent 4th season (0.667) in which he took UMD to the Frozen Four. Coach Berenson also had a slow start, with a 0.430 winning percentage after 5 seasons, but his 4th was a winning season (0.537), the first of 25 straight. And Coach Borek appears to be doing the same, as he has had back-to-back winning seasons at Merrimack in his 4th and 5th seasons.

As can be seen, Coach Souza is going in the wrong direction. Sean

Was never going in the right direction.

He's actually going in the right direction after 8 years of failures. The only question is whether that slight movement in the right direction is merely righting toward "below average" from the current "mediocre."

If Marty Scarano hadn't maliciously tied AD Rich's hands on the way out the door, the mistake would undoubtedly be Herrioned.

HockeyRef, going back a couple of pages (15) you reference the speed of info and news daily eclipsing our rich hockey history! Everyone knows where I stand when it comes to Hockey East & NCAA ignoring the “ancient” ECAC days of 17 teams (Ivy, HE, & ECAC) in favor of the last team to repeat! I’m freakin proud, as all UNH alum should be, that we were one of the few universities nationally to field a varsity women’s team! (Way before WCHA had women’s club teams!) Has anyone looked at the UNH timeline at the Whitt? When I last looked, admittedly a couple of years ago, it didn’t even mention our 1977, nor 1984, NCAA FF appearance!! So how can any of us expect any knowledge or respect @ UNH Hockey in this 60/24/7 world? ‍♂️♂️♂️

I have the number as 3.

Jake Dunlap is in the portal now.

edit: Should have read this more closely to what it was saying without saying: our 11th leading scorer (Dunlap) is also gone.
Well guess I got my short statement about the season in a 603 challenge email..."season had its ups and downs but the second half left us with great optimism for the 23-24 season"...also "8 out of ten leading scorers returning" (Seems like an odd statement but whatev? Signals to me that Chase won't be returning fir a 5th season?)

I wasn't expecting Dunlap, that's too bad thought he had alot of room to improve into a 2nd line player. He played well near the end of season.
