UNH Hockey 2023 Off Season Thread Turn and Face the Strange

And not to divert from hockey, but since a series of asides have sought to bring their agenda to Josh's death, let me just say: Kudos to those brave enough to follow Dr. Tommy Hearns' long distance diagnosis of Marvin Hagler, and Dr. Robert Kennedy's speculation without any information about a link to the vaccine. I always ask myself, "what would Tommy Hearns do in this situation?" We can't return America to its greatness until we return to listening to these voices rather than the medical professionals who oversaw the actual patient's care (and more broadly, have evaluated the vaccine's safety).

As to the Main Stream Media narrative. If you are following the Fox News lawsuit, they knowingly spread a false narrative just because their audience only wants to hear one narrative. Their evening hosts all admitted presenting outrage at facts they knew were not true. How does it make you feel to be played like that rather than being an independent thinker? And if your response is "both sides," call me when you get the same in the MSM - not just mistakes, but actual intentional falsehoods.
Even though I barely skim the drivel on here, I know I will regret posting that shortly after Elon purchased Twitter, my "For you" feed became boring. For the heck of it I looked at a few tweets and consistently found that the "Top" posts were days, weeks, even months old and "facts" were often surveys. Essentially, a tweet would say "xxx is happening", but the linked source information was that a certain percentage of those surveyed believed that "xxx" was happening. The Hagler/Hearns chatter brings up some Marvelous memories. Here's hoping Dr. Hitman doesn't step too close to the edge of the earth, slip and fall off lol

I'm sorry, I seem to have lost sight of the goal posts. Not sure I see anything talking about Hagler or Aaron there, which is what you asserted as a fact that Hearns was brave enough to state.

If the point is that some cases of Myocarditis occurred, yes, that was always acknowledged by the CDC

What You Need to Know
Benefits of Vaccination Outweigh the Risks

Serious side effects that could cause a long-term health problem are extremely rare following any vaccination, including COVID-19 vaccination. The benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks.

But that's a nuance when its much easier to assert that the vaccine is the cause of any random death, and that the Media was silencing facts.

Sorry to divert the discussion. Seems like Providence, Mass and Northeastern are really gutting their rosters after disappointing seasons. I'll be interested to see how the final rosters shake out in HE.

But UNH is not gutting their roster after a disappointing season. Does that indicate a failure on UNH's part ??

Fessenden is in the portal and specifically marked as a do not contact - meaning he either has his destination picked out or has only a few options he's willing to consider in his mind...

--

Other goalies in the portal today are Jared Moe in search of his third school - two seasons at Minnesota, two at Wisconsin - Ethan Haider (CLK) and Matt Vernon (CC). Two more Bentley SA's on the list in Winkelman and Scott...

How do you feel in general about the portal? Some hate it...a 'commitment is a commitment' is their general feeling (at least, what I've read). Interesting to see teams like Clarkson, 4 to 5 players 'on the move' kind of thing...and seniors especially; looking for somewhere else to spend one more season playing hockey kind of thing. Question; do these Seniors have to enroll in a school that offers something their former school did not? I kind of remember that was an NCAA 'rule'...sure, you can go, and don't have to sit out a season providing that..." Just wondering aloud.

Kind of doubting we lose any more players at this point; they would have gone already but...the exit interview might push the needle on them? Guess we'll find out.

I'm most interested in the goal tender situation...can/does Fess stay another season? I think if Muszelik were leaving he'd already be gone...I hope he stays!

I don’t pay close attention, but it seems there are more underclassmen and Juniors in the portal this year. Is that correct?

...yet. UNH expects 3 to 4 incoming recruits as far as I know. As mentioned in a few posts here, players are meeting with coaches this week..things could change. Not sure
UNH is a 'gutting the roster' kind of school? I don't know how these commitments / scholarships work...is a player guaranteed 4 years of scholarships when they come?

Can they be told 'thanks for your service but we are moving in a different direction'?

Haven't read through everything, but what are the thoughts for the 2023-2024 season? Saw glimpses in parts of January & February after a rough Oct-Dec. How long does Souza get to turn it around. Feels like it's been one letdown after another since Umile fell short of 600 wins.

You haven't been around long, have you? (just teasing...I noticed you have 2 posts...they've been talking about this for about five years) I think the answer to your question from most people on here would be, "He's had long enough already."

Yes, that's why so many SRs transfer. They may be told exactly that - or they may be told your scholarship is unavailable due to financial promises made to incoming prospects...

ohhhhhh dang Dan! Thanks for the info....welp...UNH is looking for a goal tender then...would you mind sharing the link you are using for your portal info? The 2 I'm
following don't list him...yet.

I could never get in to my old account. That was when Umile was still coaching. I'm still bitter on that loss to RIT.

No. I think somewhat like Maine, the core is young, and you are riding out their development. This isn't a "get rid of a lot of guys." It's a "lets see how good the guys we recruited are going to develop."

edit: I see only one real player who could feel they are not wanted and would benefit from a change of scenery.

Welcome back...and keep coming back! Yeah, we've (or most of the few of us who post) have been going on about this for quite awhile (hence the 84 years joke).
Agree with your point about how things are going, and have gone.

I completely agree, a commitment is a commitment. So if the teams commit to a player for one year, the player should commit to the team for a year. They're just dating.

If a team wants to get serious, and commit to a player for 4 years, then a player should be compelled to commit for that same four years. Seems simple, no?

I'll be interested to see who UNH plucks. I mean, Fessenden was serviceable, but perhaps UNH wants him to move on a clear the path for Muszelik to be #1. Souza's interview went out of his way to laud Muszelik, and keep him positive.

Thanks! I will warn you & others may remember, that I'm a weird college hockey fan. Probably due to the fact I'm from NE/EC Indiana on the Stateline with NW/WC Ohio. My absolute favorite team is UNH but I do "support" 8 other teams spread throughout different conferences. Gulp: I will root for Maine except against UNH. I like to see both be the top of Hockey East instead of the 2 Boston schools not named Northeastern (puke). Like all of you, I just want to see UNH win the title before I die!

Benefits of Vaccination Outweigh the Risks

Serious side effects that could cause a long-term health problem are extremely rare following any vaccination, including COVID-19 vaccination. The benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks.

Did the benefits of vaccination truly outweigh the risks? Not necessarily, according to Dr. Makary's Point #4:

Misinformation #4: Myocarditis from the vaccine is less common than from the infection

Public health officials downplayed concerns about vaccine-induced myocarditis — or inflammation of the heart muscle.

They cited poorly designed studies that under-captured complication rates.

A flurry of well-designed studies said the opposite.

We now know that myocarditis is six to 28 times more common after the COVID vaccine than after the infection among 16- to 24-year-old males.

Tens of thousands of children likely got myocarditis, mostly subclinical, from a COVID vaccine they did not need because they were entirely healthy or because they already had COVID.

But that's a nuance when its much easier to assert that the vaccine is the cause of any random death, and that the Media was silencing facts.

So let me ask you then, 'Watcher ... do you think Hearns made it up? If so, what was his motive? He's not exactly been the publicity-seeking sort, neither during his career nor (especially) in its aftermath. Ditto Hagler, which is probably why the two became close friends in retirement. Jeez, Marv was virtually living in the shadow of Storyland NH when he passed!! Maybe he worked the Bamboo Chutes during the summer as a retirement job?? ;-)

It's a very curious thing to do, if you lose a close friend, to go running your mouth for no good reason, as opposed to having very real concerns about a perceived risk to others that seems to have been quashed by Big Brother, I'm sure you would agree? Or, do you think he was trying to drum up publicity for Hearns-Leonard III or Hearns-Duran II?? Did you find it distateful OR completely justified how MSM and "fact-checkers" who have since been thoroughly discredited (or exposed by Matt Taibbi via the Twitter Files) descended like locusts to cancel Hearns when he had the temerity to challenge the prevailing propaganda-laced narrative???

Sorry if this may not be the time or place to go over old business, but to some of us, the giveaway that folks in positions of authority were talking out of their posteriors was when they never could come up with a good answer on why natural immunity should be a "thing", when we had only, oh, I dunno ... a 2,500 year head start on how it's applied in past situations.

But looking on the good side, hey, if you hold/held Pfizer stock, it wasn't a total loss ... ;-)
