UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Absolutely brutal finish there with a tough bounce and garbage time score inflation. Quinnipiac looks very very solid and thought it was a tight game for 55 minutes. Very encouraged in this group, let’s do it again tomorrow.

Yep for sure a good bounce for the Bobcats indeed...then they played to finish it out, as one should expect from the #4 team in the nation AND
National Champs....Couple of Wildcat mistakes didn't help either...

Anyway...agree with your reflections..we have a long way to go but some of the things we were doing well, like, actually keeping it in the Ozone for more than one 'opportunity' has been refreshing...

It was said by a well known poster recently on Twitt I mean X that 'no matter where they (UNH) ends up in the final standings they will do it with one of the best rosters in recent history' (or
something like that) which I thought, was a fitting statement to describe UNH this season.

Remains to be seen, but, that's where I think we are at.

Yeah, but if the majority of promising players bolt, well right back where we began. I guess tonight will a good indicator. Which coach will make the better adjustments? If UNH pulls it out, then ok, maybe the season holds some promise. I really want to be optimistic, but having a difficult time getting there.

Not sure about “the best roster” as it seems thin up front to me and I am waiting to see if the goaltending is better than the past few years. I agree that the blue line is the best that it has been in a long while. But also not sure that I am ready to give much credit to the coaching staff either. And I am not from Missouri.

Totally get it...Don't get me wrong I respect your POV on this board d.gerry! I just think it is notable that somethings do look improved as of late...
time will tell! No question that QU locked down that game and can't help but wonder if inexperience was the diff in the 6 on 5, but, making errant passes certainly do not help!

I'll be watching from home tonight as am leaving for Fla early in the morning...glad that NESN is carrying the game...

From where we were to where we want to be is not going to be quick or a straight line. There is so much to like about this team. Great team defense. Have we ever had 2 such exciting games in a row? Wide open fun hockey where we were in it all night. I think we can’t get lost in worrying about what happens next year. And sorry but who has bolted recently other that our best future defenseman. Loved Chase as a player but he would not have been the difference this year in my opinion. So much to be happy about, not saying Boston here we come.

As far as “pure” goal scorer, Gare and Hemingway are probably the last to fit that bill the best.

Poturalski was an elite scorer at the college level. Fourteen goals as a FR and 22 more a sophomore, while playing on a team with Kelleher and little else. He stays four seasons and he scores 75-95 goals…

Several of his goals - out waiting a Union keeper for what seemed like 5-10 seconds or dancing through four ND defenders to score SH - were downright special. He took way too much heat, and is vastly under appreciated, due to a poor team playing poorly around him…

Downing is another player I believe could have been a special scorer with a better supporting cast. He scored 50+ goals while having to carry entire lines - and provide secondary scoring - on his own for much of his career…

No argument there. We had so many back in the day it’s easy to overlook one or two.
