Looks like UNH held on for a less-than-impressive 1-0 win, shutout for Muszelik, and Lovett (from Linder & Lavins) with the only goal. But a W is a W, so let's bring on next weekend's Atlantic Hockey cupcake fest, right Snives?
On the Hubbard news ... the more I think about it, the more questions I have. NC State isn't a traditional power in Men's Soccer, and Hubbard has no connection to the school (at least none that I know of; Dan may have the inside track on this?). He basically had a job for life in Durham and I'm guessing the pay delta at NC State isn't huge. He's definitely betting on himself, and good for him; watching Coach Noonan at Clemson having won the D-1 title there two years ago, and with a chance to do it again this year, he's got to think if Noonan can do it, why can't I? Plus only Hubbard will know if there is a segment of potential recruits out there that he might be able to better reach at NC State than at UNH, and it can't be said that he didn't give it his best shot in Durham. But the failure to get his teams one step further into the national tourney had to be super-frustrating, and maybe he didn't want to become the next Charie Holt, Bill Bowes, Dick Umile or Sean McDonnell, those guys who pushed the rock deep into many postseasons, but suffered the same fate as Sisyphus? Plus, he's getting older now, and those November games in the Northeast can take a toll on you. It's right now that the abject absence of any quality in the sports journalism field leaves many of us searching for answers that just aren't gonna be found in a NC State or UNH press release.

Yeah. Have fun in the Big Apple Ref. Pretty magical place during Christmas time.
Fortunately, our Cats do not face Atlantic Hockey cupcakes Army and Sacred Heart next weekend, but rather in three weeks time, at the end of the month. However, unlike last season, these two games are not at the friendly confines of the Whitt, although home ice did not seem to help much against RPI this afternoon. Maybe Devlin will be back by the end of December, and maybe after final exams, MS7 can use practice sessions to provide his team some pointers on PK and PP strategies.
As for the Dead Wings YouTube video, how did the South Park kids score two goals in that game?
EDIT: late update with Atlantic Hockey cupcake teams report. Holy Cross beat UML 4-2, Bentley led Maine 2-1 for 11 seconds midway through third before succumbing 3-2 in regulation, and Sacred Heart tied Princeton 2-2.

They didn't. The Evilanche played the first two periods, after which it was tied 2-2. The kids only played the 3rd period.
Look at me ... I've lowered myself to providing context and background to make-believe animated South Park "hockey" ... how much further to fall ... :-(

FWIIW, CHN lists the UNH 7-3 win on 10 December 1993 as a neutral site, specifically at the Cumberland Country Ice Center (aka, Portland).
I wish I could comment on the game but after the first period I checked out. The RPI goalie kept his team in the game and UNH missed so many opportunities. The renewed bandwagon can say a W is a W (->Chuck) but this game was awful and what I think we knew all along, this is not a top tier team.
I am hoping that when Devlin comes back and we reset lines there will be some better play. Not sure what Columbus sees in Huard but he appears to regress each game. I don't think the Army/Sacret Heart/Princeton games are going to be easy. Hopefully MS7 rights the ship before we get into HE after that.

That must have stung for Maine fans but not as much as the 7-2 Maine win in Minneapolis for UNH fans.

The only ways out of the MS7 cul de sac of "losing begets more losing" are (1) discovering how to better develop the talent you have on hand; (2) a little bit of overperformance/overachievement, sometimes driven at least in part by a good dollop of luck; and (3) translating all of that into improved/improving results on the ice. Then, suddenly, you can not only better retain your current roster, but you can start to become an option for players not on your current roster - kids in the portal AND fresh new recruits. Lather, rinse and repeat ... and hopefully after a full cycle or two of trending upwards, you really have some momentum AND results (maybe even a trophy?) to point to before too long?
All we have now is pretty much a solid 2023 calendar year, which is encouraging (to me), and is a lot better extended stretch than anything since Umile said he was going fishing almost a decade ago. So it's a start ...
I don't see anything anywhere about Huard being a CBJ draft pick, norbie?? Sure, Dad was an NHL'er, but ...

UNH should get three wins out of those 4 games after the break. They almost always hack up a furball in the first game back, so if they can win that, the sky's the limit. Lots of winnable games in January, and even the February schedule doesn't look quite as daunting as it did in the preseason. There seems to be a bright line now between the top 6 in HEA (winning records) and the bottom 5 (losing records) and UNH has a game or more in hand on most of the others. It'll take some doing to somehow finish 9th or below and have to play on the road in the prelims (MBPBEGAM round), and otherwise UNH is competing for home ice in the HEA quarterfinals (top 4) which they are ahead of both PC and UMass on win pct. at this point. So there's a lot of room for realistic optimism, which is why I'm still "all in" with this year's team.

Agree with the RPI goalie, UNH missing opportunities, not being top tier and needing to improve. 'cats may not be top tier, but still much improved. In recent prior seasons the team very likely would have turned this into an OT win or loss. Last night they dominated third period SOG, played with enough sense of urgency to get the win. 1 - 0 is not super impressive against a two win opponent, but anything less would have been a terrible way to go into the break. Good for us, now reset and get at least three wins to close out the OOC schedule .
The sting for Maine fans was that it was Kariya's last game as a Black Bear.
Regarding Hubbard, yes, I'm sure he's getting a nice pay bump. But wouldn't be shocked if Brosmer's NIL money at Minnesota is higher.
Interesting tidbit about Kariya making it even more of an implausible blowout win for UNH.
I’ll be following Brosmer’s progress next year. I think he’s got a shot at the NFL. We’ll see.
