Good coaching.
I agree, as the Bruins with so many players lost during the offseason were not supposed to be any good this season. I always have believed that a championship team needs more depth than two top forward lines, depth that the Bruins had the last time that they won the SC. But what the Bruins did not have that season were two goalies splitting time in net, and the Bruins need to trade Ulmark for a top six forward or a first round draft pick ASAP.

With no UNH hockey to watch I caught most of that game. Was impressed Maine is def a legit team will be interesting to see what
BC does tonight. Seems like (as always) they are a youngish bunch, but, of course, talented as usual..
On another note I saw a pic of the team with their mentors and wow, that is some cast on Devlin's hand...looked pretty formidable
must have been a bad break. No telling when we will see him again!
He has 2 broken fingers on his right hand. It is casted now and has a follow up in 3 weeks to see if they have healed.

Kinda where I am in explaining the B's continued early regular season success.
Considering his bosses had him set up to walk the plank after last season's playoffs choke, I say, good for Monty.
Remember the Seinfeld episode when George chased another driver who had flipped him off for an hour outside Manhattan and ended up at a gas station where the other driver asked “Is that Danny Tartabul? I would like to shake his hand but I can’t.”

Yes, I mentioned that (he has a cast) in another post...but I still doubt he'll play any games until after Christmas but I could be wrong.
...Not the kind of injury you can just jump back on the ice and hold a stick.

Sadly, I think I'm the only person on the planet who really didn't watch Seinfeld! (or Friends bwahaha) On a hockey note it was a tough night at CentreBell for my B's last night!
When they asked Monty after the game what he thought the difference was bet it was hard not to say "the officiating". ha!
I must have missed the other post with the cast. I think it might be aggressive for him to be back for the Dec 1st Maine game. I know he is skating but obviously can't do any stick work. If I had to guess it would be the 29th after Christmas to get legs back.

...although I can't say no to a few series like 'Six Feet Under' which I am rewatching since it just came on Netflx etc and I do watch (when its on) "The Good Doctor".
I mean right now there's so much NCAA field hockey on I'm in heaven...ha!
That said, I did enjoy catching some of the 'rival team' games like PC v NU
and of course, Beagles v Black Bears (what is up with your mascot didn't understand that strainer bit?)

I watched both Orono games on tv as the ’cats slid from first to seventh. It was like rooting for plague vs. pestilence. I went with pestilence. The two people I was watching with felt UNH will be fine. I disagreed, told them to check with me 1/1/24.

Well, the UNH Men's Soccer 'Cats dropped the league championship game to #19 Bryant by a 1-0 score, with the only goal arriving in the 102nd minute (the second 10 minute OT). UNH had a first half goal marked off (properly) for an offsides on a rebound finish, and the Bryant 'keeper made an amazing full-extension save late in regulation time to keep the match going. Other than amateurish kits (looking like JV uniforms), Bryant proved to be the "real deal", as the top scoring team in AE, as well as being the top defending team in regular season play. I'd say UNH enjoyed a slight edge during most of the regulation game, but Bryant finished both halfs strongly, and they seemed to enjoy an edge in play in the overtimes as well. Having said that, that really only carved out the one quality scoring chance, and to their credit they made it count.
Crowd was a typically late-arriving bunch (myself included), I'd guess 4,000-5,000 but wouldn't be surprised if there were marginally more OR less. Effing cold for sure, but the wind wasn't so bad. Spent most of the second half and OT sitting next to a bunch of kids from Bryant who'd made the trip up from RI, and they were very entertaining. They knew the kid who scored the winning goal, and they reacted accordingly. The Bryant bench was also super-loud throughout, as I'm sure they knew their only shot at the NCAA's would be an outright win for the AE autobid. Reminded me a lot of the AE title game two years ago against UVM, where the visitors knew they had to win, and UNH knew they probably didn't have to win to make the national tourney. For the first 70-75 minutes it looked like only UNH was gonna win before penalties, but that changed in the latter minutes of regulation and throughout OT. it felt like the game turned when UNH finally got one of their strikers in behind the Bulldogs' defense, but a heavy first touch and alert opposing GK snuffed that out as quickly as it arose.
Long and short, Bryant will be in. UNH is virtually assured another NCAA bid (this was only their second loss of the season), and I suspect UVM misses out for not making it to the AE Finals. Only real question is whether UNH hosts its opening round game or not. Last time, they drew a very good crowd against UNC, which should stand them in good stead as a quality proven host team.
This has been a transition year for UNH, with eight new starters, and Coach Hubbard leaning heavily on the transfer portal. I think they lack the attacking ability to make a national run, but they should be a tough team for opponents to break down defensively, so if they get a good run of breaks and kind decisions, they could make a run? With much more talented teams in recent years, you gotta credit Hubbard with yet another year of UNH punching above their weight, both in the league, and (hopefully) nationally, especially over the coming weeks ...

Appreciate the rundown of the game yesterday, Chuck. I watched on TV and it was a close, even match. Felt like Bryant wanted it a bit more. It was interesting to hear Bryant's first year HC came from Franklin Pierce after winning the 2022 D-2 NCAA Championship. Feels like they could be a formidable opponent going forward. Between UNH, UVM and Bryant, America East may be on the rise nationally.
It drives me crazy watching soccer on a football field though, it's hard to get a feel for the spacing by the touchlines.
