UNH Football 2009

Re: UNH Football 2009

UNH hangs on to win (they made it interesting, fumbling when they were trying to kneel it, but covering it up) 23-16

5 wins in a row against FBS teams. The FBS schedule gets quite a bit tougher in the coming years with Pitt in 2010, Minnesota in 2012 and BC in 2014 (as of right now, any of those are subject to change)

2-0 start, defense looks really good, offense has room for improvement, but showed some good signs today.

solid win. Bye week next week and Dartmouth comes to Durham in 2 weeks...

Re: UNH Football 2009

Great job. I don't know how McDonnell does it.

The schedule sets up nicely for them this year. Unfortunately they play W&M, which is almost always a guaranteed loss for some reason, but they could put together a really good season.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Granite Bowl today, as UNH takes on Dartmouth. The Cats elect to take the opening kickoff and proceed to march it downfield for the opening TD of the game. Dartmouth takes the ensuing kickoff to the UNH 27. Early in the opening quarter it's 7-0 Wildcats.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Dartmouth responds to the UNH score with one of their own. It's now 7-7, still pretty early in the first.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Not much of a defensive struggle so far. UNH gets a nice return to their own 38, and then march it downfield and score on a 15 yard Chad Kackert run. With 7:16 to play in the first, it's 14-7 Cats.

Re: UNH Football 2009

UNH recover a Dartmouth fumble on their own 15. After a long pass and run puts the cats at the Big Green 15, RJ Toman executes a beautiful play fake and scrambles in for the TD. The PAT was blocked, so it's now 20-7 Wildcats, late in the first.

Re: UNH Football 2009

With 7:39 left in the first half, Dartmouth edge a little closer with a 12 yard TD pass and catch. 20-13 for the Cats.

Re: UNH Football 2009

End of the first half and the Cats are holding onto a 20-13 lead. They are only holding onto that lead because of a beautiful one handed INT in the endzone by Dino Vasso at the end of the half.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Dartmouth lost at home to Colgate by three touchdowns and UNH is coming off a bye week, so I was expecting a blowout. Huh.

Re: UNH Football 2009

But for 4 Dartmouth turnovers the Big Green would probably be ahead in this game. UNH just turned one of those turnovers into a 13 play 88 yard TD drive, and with the 2 pt. PAT, the Cats now lead 28-14, late in the third.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Kevin Deckert, who's in for an apparently injured Toman, plunges in from 1 yard to cap off an 8 play 88 yard TD score. The PAT is blocked an the Cats lead 34-14 with 11:11 left to play in the game.

Re: UNH Football 2009

After Deckert throws an INT, Dino Vasso returns the favour and takes it in for another UNH score. With the PAT the score is now 41-14 Cats. 7:36 to play in the game.

Re: UNH Football 2009

They've opened it up. GoUNH: Is Kackert playing today? I haven't been listening.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed your earlier post. Good to see him in there.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Wildcats get a late FG and hammer Dartmouth 44-14. This is the final Granite Bowl for at least 5 years. Next week the real games begin as UNH begins it's conference schedule against Towson. I don't know much about them, so no comment. Anyways, we are off to a 3-0 start on the year, and nicely ranked number 6. LET'S GO CATS!!

Re: UNH Football 2009

Towson should push them to 4-0 but then they have what may be the two toughest games on their schedule, back to back: Villanova and UMass. Sweep those and they have a real opportunity to be a top-four seed come playoff time (they'll lose to W&M, I'm sure, as always). But of course you have to play the games, I know.

Re: UNH Football 2009

For those interested, UNH leads Towson 23-0 with 7 minutes left in the first (!!!) quarter. Three touchdowns and a safety.

Re: UNH Football 2009

With 10 minutes left in the third quarter, UNH leads 47-7. They've pretty much scored any way you possibly can, including a 95 yard INT return for a TD. This one, not - in - doubt.

Re: UNH Football 2009

Game over. Cats eke out a 57-7 conference win over the Towson Tigers. Not much to analyze here. The Cats are just a better team, plain and simple. RJ Toman did not play due to turf toe (man I hate Field Turf, thanks alot Scarano  ). In his absense, Kevin Decker played as well as he did last week against Dartmouth.

Homecoming next week and it's gonna be a dandy as unbeaten CAA south rival Villanova comes to town. This will easily be our toughest test to date and potentially all year. If we win this game, we may have a real special season going here. LET'S GO CATS!!
