UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Personally, I think Baily is a little old for us next year. We can do better/younger.

I do think we need to find someone to replace Reid for sure. Anyone have any info on David Killip?

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Just trying to provide information. I have no idea how he'll pan out over the next couple of years. Is there any bigger question mark than who will replace Brian Foster next year?

Yes, Foster's replacement is the biggest concern, yes, it would be unusual for Digi to be the starter without having played much yet, and yes, I think he'll be the starter. Time to cross the fingers come October. I think. Really, I do. ;)

UNH has had the luxury of having outstanding goalies , hopefully the end of the line is still long ways off .

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

There's been some discussion on this thread about whether there will be a suitable and comparable replacement for Brian Foster next season. Out of curiosity, I checked out the website of Matt DiGirolamo's former USHL team, the Waterloo Black Hawks, to find out more about his history. I found some very interesting statistics. It turns out that DiGirolamo compares favorably with two former Waterloo goalies whom you will recognize. Here's what the "Most Wins in a Season" table shows:

#1 Kevin Regan 2003 28 Wins 2.37 GAA .915 SV%
#2 Matt DiGirolamo 2007 25 Wins 2.41 GAA .900 SV%
#4 Matt DiGirolamo 2006 22 Wins 2.54 GAA .905 SV%
#6 Parker Milner 2008 20 Wins 2.90 GAA .902 SV%

In other words, DiGi's career in Juniors' Hockey was comparable to one of UNH's best goalies ever and to one of the current BC goalies (who saw quite a bit of rubber in the third period last Friday night). Maybe DiGi has more potential than we have seen since he arrived in Durham.

I've said this before, but DiGi will be fine.

He had two bad games last year, during which, team defense was at an extreme low. He faced so many poorly defended 2-1's and made a few key saves at other points, but no one was there to sweep up the rebounds. His confidence obviously isn't as high as it should be, and I think with a few starts next year, he'll get it back.

As for recruiting in general, it's been a little while since we have picked someone up. Anyone know of any kids we are talking with?

I still want David Killip, next year, to replace Reid. I can't think of many players who are uncommitted for next year, who are better.

Nice, info on Digi………Next year we lose 1 D and 2 forwards and 1goalie, assuming no defections ( which I do not anticipate). I believe the pipeline looks like this:

Forwards:
Grayson Downing
Nick Sorkin
Jeff Silengo

Defense:
Justin Agosta
Joey Laleggia
Eric Knobel

Goalie:
Cody Campbell

I think they would bring all the forwards, even though Silengo could probably benefit from another year in the “U”. He is 20 at this point so they most likely bring him. Defense will be full with 3 players coming in……..do they push one to the following year?. Agosta left the “U” to go the EJ, not sure what that means. Knobel will be 20 so I assume he comes. Laleggia is young, ‘92 . Does he need another year?.....if they push him do they lose him?

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

BC just committed a player (Austin Cangelosi of Northfield Mt Hermon) for the fall of 2013. He's just the second player to commit to a school for 2013, the first of which is going to Miami. At this point (and I know it's early and players are bound to de-commit and whatnot) UNH has only one player committed for 2012 in Casey Thrush. I found that interesting.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

I think it's only natural to be concerned about the goaltending for next year, seeing as it's the most important position on the ice. UNH cannot win without a decent goalie.

On Leleggia - Judging only by his stats, and accolades only as a 17yr old in the BCHL.. he does not need another yr.. but the talk is he may in fact stay.

Not only that BC has an uncanny knack for getting kids to commit when they are about 15 1/2 yrs old.. currently they now have 3 incoming '94's that commited on or about their 15 1/2 b/d's. That leads the country. Also. the 2012 commit for UNH is a '92. UNH only has 1 '93 at this point -

'94 commit's

BC -3
Notra Dame 2
Wisco - 2
Michigan - 1
UVM 1
Denver -1
Miami -1

What worry is there of Laleggia bolting if he is pushed back, any?
