UNH At The Starting Gate....

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

How is it minimizing it? You prepare as well as you can for the playoffs and hope you can win in them. I am not trying to say they are not important. They are huge. But my whole initial post was not to say the playoffs are any less than what they are, but to basically say that the regular season crown does matter.

Question for you, how many Hockey East tourney titles does UNH have when they were the # 1 seed? Obviously we know how the # 1 HE seed prepared for the NCAAs based on the number of championships they have. Tell ya what, you keep winning RS crowns, we'll keep winning tourney titles and NCAA championships. This way we're both happy.

READING COMPREHENSION.

You quoted Malts post, in which he says, "the playoffs are important, but the regular season is also." At no point did he say that the RS was more important. It's a step in the right direction. It seems as though many (read: not all) BC Posters are waiting for UNH fans to say, "The Regular Season trophy is everything." We haven't, so you're starting to read things into posts that simply aren't there.

Don't misunderstand us. Offer us a NC v. RS, we'll all take the NC. But if all we can achieve one year is the RS crown and a win or two in the NCAAs, it's better than nothing.

Two, both times that they won the HE Tournament (2002 + 2003) they had also won the Regular Season title.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

Why do BC fans care what UNH fans (on their own thread) think of the Regular Season, and why do the UNH fans care what the BC fans think about what the UNH fans think!?!

We get it, BC is the best program on the planet with, by far, the best coach in the game. UNH is a very good program, competitive every year, but they're not an elete program. We understand that. There's no team or coach that I respect more, but the fans of Boston College live up to the stereotypes they've earned very nicely. Congrats on being the best of all time.

It seems as though many (read: not all) BC Posters are waiting for UNH fans to say, "The Regular Season trophy is everything." We haven't,

"You win a regular season crown and you are the best. The playoffs and NCAAs are the cherry on the top of the sundae."

I don't know about you, but... this quote is awfully close, wouldn't you say?

Leave it up to Greg Ambrose to miss the point and post some more buffoonery to distract from Malts' buffoonery. Which one will stand in for Jeff Daniels and which one for Jim Carey? Gee, it takes 16 wins to win a Stanley Cup and only 4 to win a National Title. REALLY? WOW! Enlightening stuff. I guess the regular seasons aren't comparable either since they play only 30+ games instead of 82 games. Or......... maybe they are.

I do find this concept of "luck" to be interesting as well. OK, sure, you need or might have luck to win a national title. MAYBE. But over all the regular season league games, luck is not relevant, right? The sample size just eliminates that luck factor, right? So if UNH won the league by 1 point this year, I guess they weren't lucky to win that regular season trophy considering Nyquist hit that post a few weeks ago before UNH rallied seconds later to win the game. OKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. Whatever helps everyone sleep at night is fine by me. And we're all laughing with you, not at you!!!

That's not what I asked. I asked how many times they finished first and DIDN'T win the Hockey East tournament. My point is the RS title means jack but to say its more important because only the "lucky" teams win in the postseason is laughable.

Sure Nyqwist hitted de poste to elp UNHs, mais some time dis year luck goed against UNHs to. Unlike de poste saison like when Krog hitted zee poste in Anahime et 10 minute lateur zee game she was ovure....

Zee argument agains you ici is dat in de hole history of HE, only 4 team ave winned de RS title - et dey all juste de Beeg 4.

Mais 6 team ave winned de Tournee - zee Beeg 4 plus NU et PC.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

Regulate Saison, Playoff, de juste bullsheet labels zat you getting ung up ons. All we realy talking bout is a 27 game sampul vs. a 4 game sampul. Which one do you tink is zee better teste? Statisticlly eet not even really a questione. I not asking wheech is zee more exciting teste, juste which is zee more rigoruss, eh.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

NC > Reg season trophy. We get it. Perhaps BC can win the regular season, HE tournament and NCAA this year and feel complete. Then perhaps they will drop it. Probably not.

Who is "we"? Doesn't seem to include Malts.

BTW, BC already did that in 2001.

Perhaps UNH can win a national title so the few dopey fans (Malts/Greg Ambrose) in Titletown can stop pretending like winning the regular season is the equivalent of the college hockey Stanley Cup.

I surely would like to see it if it can't be BC.

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

However, there's also another one I had the misfortune to meet at the Garden during the HE championship a few years ago, whose face, and whose complete lack of grace, I will never forget. Considering his age -- I'll bet he was in his late 50's -- he ought to have been better mannered.)

I don't remember meeting you! :D

Re: UNH At The Starting Gate....

Observations from last night:

Last night, the thing I was most encouraged by (and there were lots of things -- hustle, grit, a little physical play) was that UNH seemed to WIN more face-offs than they lost. I don't know the official number, it was just a trend the wife and I noticed.

I, too, have always thought that winning face-offs mattered, but according the box, NU took UNH 47 to 29 in face-offs on Saturday night. However, they were even at 37-37, along with the 2-2 tie, on Friday night, so who knows? I was out of the country the past two weekends, so missed the last four games. But, I am back now and with tickets for Conte on Friday night, and looking for a ticket or two for Lake Whitt on Saturday night. If I cannot come up with a ticket for Saturday night, I will watch Bentley attempt to continue their season in the AHA against Sacred Heart in Watertown.

I hope you can get a ticket for BC-UNH. Eeek. I'd rather watch almost half the Div III games then SHU at Bentley. I don't know if they are spoken for already, but JAB on the tickets forum posted he had two blue line seats available for $20.
