UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Given these two horrible hockey contract renewals, makes me wonder <s>why Herrion was apparently targeted for dismissal</s> if the three years is really three years.
fixed. Its not the length, its the buyout that's the important part.

We'll see once season is in the bag

I doubt you get better results without a major budget increase, which doesn’t seem likely. People should be angry at the political folks instead of those in the athletic department.

This is just another excuse, the program excelled for years with limited funds. Sure, just throw more taxpayer money at the university, that will surely fix things. No thanks! The athletic department is the problem, a culture of accepting mediocrity.

Bingo.

Nailed it! Another +1 from here, too.

Big night for UNH alums Casey deSmith for beating the hapless Bruins 4-2 and Warren Foegele getting 2 goals with the Kings...if I have that right!

Speaking of hapless...heres HR's UNH v Q predicts:

Fri: QU 3 UNH 1
Sat: QU 2 UNH 0

Of course am hoping for better!

I'd much rather be worrying about what is happening out on the ice, but when last year SO much of the hiring process was tied into the current coach's ties to TDL and others, it's hard not to feel AD f/k/a SB got sold a bill of goods.

And, there is a lot to worry about what we're seeing on the ice.

The politics of any athletic department is an exercise in hubris and power. However, with UNH it seems a case study in futility and incompetence when it comes to not only day to day management, but also having the ability to develop and execute a longer term strategy.

The upgrades to the Whitt, or at least initial planning phases, should have started seven or eight years ago rather grasping at straws and begging for money today.

TBH Grouchy, it seems like some of the folks in UNH-land (probably more admin than fans) were starting to resemble the folks at "Bandwagon Nation" a generation ago, with their fawning praise of TDL and his financial prowess mimicking that of "Fathah Monan" (RIP) as a "very powahful man" back in the day. Combination of hubris, projection and wishful thinking.

Bet you weren't expecting that little trip in the good ol' Way Back Machine ... :p

Yeah, I saw that this morning on the UNH Men's Hockey Twitter/X feed. Still find it somewhat curious, and indicative of where UNH stands as a program these days, to see them touting one guy who was literally expelled from the school, and another who understandably fled early in the first semester of his sophomore season because the vaunted "senior checking first line" was gobbling up his ice time. I would love to see how much UNH-related stuff (if any?) is displayed prominently in the man caves in either of these gentlemen's McMansion(s). Strongly suspect the affinity is very much a one-way street, with the school/program now acting in the role of the barnacle.

We'll know the one-way adoration has become irretrievably bad once UNH's Twitter/X accounts start touting the 20th anniversaries of Coach McCloskey's HEA four-peat on the Women's side (2005/2006-2008/2009) ...

Call me an unrepentant cynic (I am), but I thought at the time the U didn’t care for the optics of keeping a mediocre male coach while letting the female go. Unfortunately I’m coming around to the camp that they just don’t care, which brings us back to Snive’s question above. Maybe she couldn’t resist the habit of so many to make a splash when they’re new? It wore off fast.

I couldn’t bring myself to project scores but the team on the ice for the first two loses two. I’m just hoping a better team shows up …
