UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

This game is a showcase of the lack of scoring depth with Conmy + LeClerc out.

Agree its tough having them out UNH still expect more of the veterans...they should be stepping up. Won't name names..

Looking at the stats we beat them at the dot...they blocked a ton of shots (of course they would packing
it in the way they do). Still we weren't much of a threat.

At least in this small sample Jared Whale seems to be
holding his own which was our biggest question.

Thinking it's going to be a long weekend at QU coming
up...will watch their Maine game to see what they've
got.

I don't know the stats but has Scotty B gotten the best
of MS7? Will tell you one thing tho am not going to
spend the next 3 seasons hand wringing over his contract
extetension. Whats the point???

One n short of an all Connor fourth line.

So, UNH has connored the market on players named Conor/Connor skating on its fourth line?

Sounds like we have missed LeClerc, Jenson, and now Conmy so far this season.

Agreed with HR that Scotty B has the incentive to continue getting the best of MS7 and with DB that MS7 may have resumed coaching without those incentives from last season given his misdirected, fat, three-year contract renewal.

For HR and any others interested: UNH is 7-7-2 vs Merrimack since Souza became head coach, hence the “Drive Home Safely” chant at Lawlor has sadly lost its relevance.

The New Hampshire Newly Extended to a Rotten Deal (NERD) program (RSA 357-D) is commonly referred to as the New Hampshire "Lemon Law." The purpose of the law is to provide a consumer with an efficient and informal process with which to resolve poor hiring decisions.

So here we are, six months (give or take) later, and our newly extended head coach seems to be broken. Not only are the blue chip prospects still not on MS7's radar (now as before), but the goalie has already been switched out for another aftermarket replacement. That seems to be the only good news, actually ... otherwise, key parts under warranty seem to be broken or functioning poorly, and MS7 is no longer making the scheduled maintenance trips to Boston for those endearing slap-and-tickle visits with Brick and the since-retired Jack Edwards. He is now also falling behind with the planned Key Group engine overhaul of the ol' '95 Whittemore/Towse jalopy.

Can we get someone to step in at this point and void the whole thing???

Kind of what I'm talking about...there's no going back at this point. This is our lot and that's pretty much that! I'm trying to think that maybe this team is going
to be like NU was last season. They had key injuries early on (which is why I think, we swept them) and had a better second half. We don't know what this UNH team is
ultimately going to do. Sure with 3 games in we'd like to see some OFFENSE and I get that.

Hearing that it might be soon that we get LeClerc/Conmy back in the line up; no idea about Jensen. I'm trying to be optimistic. Despite it all last night there
were some good things out there. Not a great game by any means tho...but really did anyone expect it to be any different?

Have already moved to the 'acceptance' phase of things...too exhausting to do anything else.

Thanks for that update on the Borek v Souza stats. I figured as much. I don't know what kind of team MC has coming back from last year (which wasn't a great season for them
as compared to that team that went to the HE finals/regionals in 2023). From as long as I've been a fan we usually are lucky to come out with a W there. MC always brings it in
their rink and UNH doesn't seem to be always up for the task. This current team has alot of growth in front of them (UNH). QU next week will be a huge tell...

Admittedly not a great start, but it is still too soon to say. Give the team time to get healthy, come together and let the record and on ice performance speak for itself.

What it it turns out to be ten?

eek is right...haha I guess my main point is that for me at least, it is what it is. Am not happy about it, and yeah, I wanted a change like many here. But,
right now as my sig file says, I'm in it for the hockey. Agree with your points to Chuck...let's get this team healthy.

Probably at least as concerned about the off-the-ice (non)developments as the current on-ice situation ... not seeing any recruiting upticks, either conventionally or via the portal (early returns on Whale aside - and that was a necessity once Hellsten left late) ... and the Key Auto/TDL facility revamp seems stalled. And no post-extension ball-washing on NESN either.

I will say, I also did hope to see a better quality on-ice product, too. With as many returning players this season from last season's team, there's no excuse for this year's team looking so absolutely turgid in two games against low end opponents. Injuries will happen, but systems should carry teams through things like that looking a lot better than UNH has looked so far.

We'll see ... next up is Quinnipiac on the road, we'll get a better read on Whale then, and maybe even score a goal or two ...

My feelings exactly Chuck...am expecting more from them...even with these early challenges. Will be down there Sat...thinking if they get swept this weekend UNH will definitely have more than they bargain for.

Wildcats v Bobcat action!!!

We had lost our last five games at Lawlor before last night’s tie (2-5-2), including last season when the Warriors were bad. We are 4-2-1 against Mac at the Whitt since 2018/19 season. In my earlier post I had us at 7-7-2, but it looks like it is instead 6-7-3 since MS7 became HC.

Four tough games next two weekends, and LIU at the Whitt may not be easy either, as the Sharks played the Falcons to a 1-1 tie in Waltham last night, with game 2 tonight. Would love to get control of the sound system at the Whitt on November 9th and cue up the theme tune in the film Jaws.

From the FWIIW department, Bobcats are a species of Wildcats, but not all wildcats are bobcats. There are 40 different species of wildcats in the world. (From Wikipedia).

Lol Beat me to it...thanks you Snives for the education!

For the non-Durham home-town folks, Bobcats is also the moniker for the Oyster River public school teams, hence the question about the difference between bobcats and wildcats goes way back for us Durham homies. :-)

Meanwhile, the Maine Black Bears showed some resilience (called mental toughness on the Maine thread) in their sweep of the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Orono last night. We will need some of that mental toughness next weekend, especially if we do not get skaters returned from the IL.

Just for fun OR girls field hockey team is tops in D2 and will be tough to beat as the NHIAA tourney gets started this week.

Watched that game last night..UNH is going to get an education as I doubt QU wants to lose to another HE team twice in a row. But ya never know. We certainly will see how da Whale does under the pressure. Maybe we get back our injured guys as well?

I am looking forward to visiting a new rink tho!

I think that you will be impressed by the M&T Bank Arena complex, with hockey rink on one side and basketball court on the other side, separated by lounges, eating facilities, etc., on York Hill, about a mile from the main Mount Carmel campus where I would park and take their bus shuttle. When my cousin and her husband were still alive, I had free lodging and meals in nearby Bethany. Also attended lots of Bentley games at nearby Milford Ice Pavilion against Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac (when still in AHA) before both built their new arenas.

The four Connecticut Div 1 programs rotate their Nutmeg Cup (or some such name) each year, like a short version of the Bean Pot. Need to get St. Anselm’s and SNHU to go Div 1 so we can have a four-team Granite State Cup for Chuck.

After two weeks of login issues, unexpected family visits and one trip out to South Dakota for Parents Weekend, I'm out of the litter box.

Flotsam and Jetsam rattling around since the start of the season:

Snap judgement: this team looks like a house league group of Mites. Bunched up play and virtually no lateral movement. They can't move the puck with precision or under pressure.

Souza talked about scoring depth at the end of last season? Where is it?

Powerplay: Non existent.

Goonery: Bad penalties don't win games

Gagne: When he gets frustrated (which is often), he takes cheap shots behind the play and gets called for it.

Next Year: With so many graduating seniors, next year could become a black hole of ineptitude

Whitt Upgrades: Stalled. Let's ramp up a massive capital campaign with high interest rates and an economy on the precipice of disaster. If the three year extension was conditional based on MS7's ability to raise funds, UNH must be already having buyer's remorse

Summer Picnic: Poorly planned, communicated and executed. What an utter waste of time with UNH merely going through the motions and appeasing the season ticket fan base

MS7 The Ghost: For a man that leveraged the media save his own a$$ last year, he's become Durham's own ghost. For a coach and team that staked his reputation on raising cash, he's been invisible. Every since his emotional meltdown in the post game interview at Orono to end the season, he's gone into the witness protection program. He should be EVERYWHERE selling the dream and the vision. But, he isn't. Of course, the renovations and capital drive should have taken place 5-10 years ago.

Golf Tourney: Why did we get an email the DAY OF of the event to donate or put together a team? Another wasted opportunity.

Considering UNH pushes it's "world class business programs", I think it would be a fascinating case study or PhD thesis to explore the downfall of a hockey team that was once a national powerhouse. What caused it...Umile? Scarano's need to make UNH a football school? The good old boy UNH network scratching each other's back? Poor hiring and bad executive management?
