UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Fixed your post, wally.

Funny how 30 or so years can dull the memory ... charged from behind, several strides, face first into the glass at the almost-new Whittemore Center, in a game where UNH was comfortably ahead, very much the cheapest of cheap shots. If you want to liken it to Jenson's hit, be my guest. At least your guy got up from the (now-suspendable?) hit, and scored a goal and three assists after he got "touched". Good on him.

The SMT's were a very talented yet overall soft bunch, and that's where Walshy saw an advantage and exploited it. UMaine was every bit as talented, AND brought an edge that UNH did not possess, until Pat Foley filled that role a few seasons later. Walshy was a smart guy.

Just kind of surprises me, with all that's happened since, and with UMaine getting the best of almost everything except the '02 HEA Tourney Final, there was a need to relitigate the Guite thing. A moment of madness, I'm pretty sure Ben would admit to it ... so why now??

Pretty much the entire UNH roster is a coming attraction for ECHL/SPHL goon league hockey, and this isn't a new thing here, either ...
Just to flesh out your post Chuck, remember the Guite-Mowers incident was during a Championship Game in November that UNH won.

UNH and Maine met six times that season. The 'Cats won the first three, the Bears won the last three. All Maine wins were at the Whitt, the final two in the HE playoffs.

Yeah, I've kinda reached my limit of toying with spanky. I guess I wouldn't mind so much, if he at least tried to be truthful in his accusatory posts. I mean, anyone who's been on here for any length of time knows I've been championing the buyout option with MS7 for quite some time now, and that doesn't jibe with the "yeah, Chuck wanted him signed sealed & delivered forever" BS he's been spewing lately.

Last season consisted of some well-connected folks coming on here to say MS7's extension was a "done deal", and even then I resisted it, and the only concession I've ever made - grudgingly - was that *maybe* I could understand a one year "show me" extension - which in full retrospect was clearly the right call. I'm still on here asking whether we know for a fact he signed a three year deal OR three one-year deals (not unprecedented BTW). I recall someone on here claimed definitively that it's the former and not the latter. If so, we're back to finding ways to cobble together $240K for a necessary buyout, which frankly shouldn't be a hard thing to do. I'd write the check myself, if the folks at UNH would give me 20% of incremental revenue generated by hockey at The Whitt for the next 10 years; I'd come out on top for sure.

I remember the good ol' days when Drew would come on here and ask some out of the box questions, which were sometimes admittedly unusual, but were unquestionably in good faith. This clown skippy is the absolute worst UMaine bandwagoner I've ever seen. Crazy how he was so quiet, invisible even, when UMaine was down in the muck with us during the Gendron Era. The long-time UMaine-iacs just point and laugh at him ... I wonder who's gonna tell him he's basically seen as the village idiot not only in this village, but also in his own village???

P.S. - Snives, if you truly believe all UNH needs to do to make the NCAA's is to sweep UMass Lowell and UMass Amherst, and win one game after that ... and with a .500 record/last place (maybe 10th?) in HEA, qualify for the big tourney??? I'll have some of what you're having
I was planning to speak up in your defense against Spankee’s stupid comment about you being in favor of MS7’s contract extension but figured that you would get to it sooner or later.

As for UNH making the NCAA’s, if the Cats lose tonight, I will admit that the NCAA quest is over. However, if we sweep Massywaasy this weekend, my UNH NCAA hopes will be extended to the last weekend of the regular season in March. Our PWR late tomorrow evening will be telling.

Wow, I figured there would be some banter on here about last night's (half) win, and ... crickets. Sad. But this is where we are, after MS7 raised expectations in some quarters last season, only to sit on his "laurels" in the offseason once his extension was secured, and watch on as another season circles the drain with a January/February collapse.

Kudos to the players who dug out of a pair of two goal deficits, evened things up, and showed some legitimate heart in grinding out a result. We'll see if the guys can take to the road and build on that in Amherst before the BC weekend is upon us ...

Not a win, haven’t had a win in over a month, Souza needs to be fired, and our AD couldn’t care less. I think we’re running out of things to say, it’s been discussed ad nauseam. It is sad and only getting more so.

Loved Conmy's Pastrnak bomb. I think he's the only guy on the team that scores that type of goal. Is Skrastins going on a little end of season heater? The commentators we're talking about Snouza's leaning on his 4th line a bit. I guess that worked?
Sweeney has doubled his career points with 7 this season, now at 14. Lovett has almost doubled his career points with 4 (all goals) this season, now at 9. Skrastins has a ways to go with 5 points this season after scoring 12 last season and 6 his first season. But, agreed, the fourth line is becoming more than just a “checking line,” and maybe MS7 recognizes that?

For Cats to make NCAAs now, need to win tonight, split with BC, and sweep UML, as ties do not help PWR.

A tie that felt like a win for UNH and felt like a loss for UMA. The eye test the past few weeks says that the 'cats season ends two weeks from tonight, but I will trust Snively65's scholarly analysis and ardent true fan support that we are not dead yet which makes tonight an elimination game for UNH. With UMA on the PWR bubble at 13 tonight's tilt should be worth watching.

What about the phony balogna game? No offense against balogna

Tried to respond last night after returning from campus, but the servers were busy.

Begrudgingly satisfied with the extra point, most of the game the Cats seemed to be nothing more than going through the motions and playing out a string of meaningless games.

Gagne looks exhausted.

I think they’re toast unless they win out and win at least a single playoff game over another tournament opponent. They’ve just dug too deep a hole.

They went up to Maine at #18 - even if you swap both the Maine and UMass ties to wins they’d still be sitting in that same #18 position. Meaning two tourney team wins, including one against a top-5 opponent, wouldn’t have budged them…

The margins are tighter. Single wins aren’t moving them like they may have earlier in the season. Makes me think they need them all. In other words, a 6-1-0 or better finish, with two wins over BC, is probably their only path short of winning the HE playoff…

That seems…unlikely…

I thought the same in the third especially after UMA went up by two again. ‘cats didn’t quit, but seemed resigned to their fate. Conmy’s goal energized them a bit and they took it to the Minutemen.
