UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Jeezus, even when our guy runs the league office, they come up with ... this?!?!? Crazy times ...

To be clear (1) I'm not all that bothered, UNH will probably find their way to a win this weekend, with or without Jenson, and (2) if the officials had ruled this a 5 minute major on site after their review of the video, then so be it.

But they didn't. They ruled it a 2 minute minor. Twice.

Did Nigel & Co. come across the Zapruder film in the last 48 hours?!? Did Ben Barr file an appeal?!?!? How many reviews does Jenson have to clear before it's a closed case????? Always assumed it was justified to get a suspension if an undisputed major was called, or if the officials on site reversed their call after their initial review. This feels incredibly onerous from the league office.

The press release sheds no light on the process, either. Did the Supervisor of Officiating take this on himself to upgrade things? Holton and Potvin have both been around for awhile, you don't expect to see your more experienced guys questioned by the league office. Again ... did Barr ask for another review?? Seems pretty gratuitous if he did - guessing he didn't BTW, but just walking through their process here, since Nigel & Co. were schtum in the release, basically hanging everyone out to dry. Way to go, Nige ...

Speaking of gratuitous ... shame on MS7 for letting this happen to his guy without pushing back. I guess you can understand it ... why waste an hour better spent having a timely dinner at home with the fam, instead of airing out someone in the league office, especially when you may be begging them for a job in the not-so-distant future, right Mikey???

What an absolutely abject state of affairs in Titletown ...

apparently the skating Mother Teresas are no more. I have to chuckle about this after the outrage about Guite torching Mark Mowers way back when UNH skaters did no wrong
Fixed your post, wally.

Funny how 30 or so years can dull the memory ... charged from behind, several strides, face first into the glass at the almost-new Whittemore Center, in a game where UNH was comfortably ahead, very much the cheapest of cheap shots. If you want to liken it to Jenson's hit, be my guest. At least your guy got up from the (now-suspendable?) hit, and scored a goal and three assists after he got "touched". Good on him.

The SMT's were a very talented yet overall soft bunch, and that's where Walshy saw an advantage and exploited it. UMaine was every bit as talented, AND brought an edge that UNH did not possess, until Pat Foley filled that role a few seasons later. Walshy was a smart guy.

Just kind of surprises me, with all that's happened since, and with UMaine getting the best of almost everything except the '02 HEA Tourney Final, there was a need to relitigate the Guite thing. A moment of madness, I'm pretty sure Ben would admit to it ... so why now??

Pretty much the entire UNH roster is a coming attraction for ECHL/SPHL goon league hockey, and this isn't a new thing here, either ...

This is the guy that supervises the officials, one of your own. https://nhlegendsofhockey.com/hall-of-fame/inductees/brian-murphy/

Here is the probability matrix from CHN

It gives UNH 0.6% chance of winning HE championship and getting automatic qualifier. Otherwise the chance is 1% for at large bid.

Now you should be like Carey in Liar liar and hold yourself in contempt of court for general mockery of the court proceedings.
Yes, 1% chance for at-large bid much better than CHN’s 0.6% or Chuck’s 0.125% chance for auto qualifier. I think that sweeping UMass-Flagship and UMass-Bazin and winning the MBPBEGAM game might get us an auto bid (going 5-3-0 also gets us to 0.500). So, we would leapfrog UMass-Bazin and UMass-Flagship in the current PWR as the sixth HEA team in.

Dan must be in for $700 on the Conmy alternate jersey :ROFLMAO:
Dan has been pretty protective of the top-of-the-roster types, and while we have clashed before on the issue, I think he has more often than not persuaded me to many of his arguments. I know we pretty much ended up on the same page with Gildon, and I'll confess, I'm leaning in his favor on the Conmy debate now. I think we clashed on Poturalski, and I'll admit my final conclusion on AP had a lot to do with what I saw in person in a couple of key postseason games (@ Merrimack being one) where I thought he let his teammates down big-time. Stuff I'll point out that has probably hampered him from making the really big next step in his career. Obviously he's a very talented player (ditto JvR, on a much higher plane), and it's funny because as JvR's NHL career has wound down, he is now relying on a lot of secondary skills he overlooked as a younger guy to keep himself in the league. It's probably happened for AP as well, and now with a HC who believes in him ... we'll see.

I'll stick with my assessment, Snives. I do want the guys to succeed, but at what point does it become a pipe dream?

Do you really see the team that just went 1-9-1, bouncing back to sweep UMass Amherst AND UMass Lowell? I don't.

The NCAA isn't gonna let even a .500 team with a marginal PWR into the tourney. Tourney upsets elsewhere leading to autobids for non-PWR qualifiers, and then the cut-off isn't at 16 anymore, it's 14 or 13 or maybe even 12.

Take your 5-3-0 finish, which gets us to where the season ended last year - one game away from Boston. We still come up short.

To get an at-large bid, you're gonna have to win out, and maybe lose the HEA Finals (winning HEA gets an auto bid).

I don't see six HEA teams making the big tourney anyway. Only UMaine, BC and BU are guaranteed. No one else. No one. Scratch each of the teams currently sitting at #4 thru #8 hard enough, and you basically have five (5) more glorified .500 teams, all of whom will be hugely motivated (even more than UNH) to ensure their place in the NCAA's.

I thought you guys had some players who played good this weekend, in particular Lavins and Sweeney seemed to have an extra step and energy.

The biggest ghost from watching at my seats: Devlin. He was basically invisible minus maybe one point blank attempt.
Can’t do that. Dan will be mad that you said something about a player.

Just watched the Jensen hit. Not even a penalty never mind a game suspension.

Murphy has lost the officials in this league. Please go back to NHL.

Lol, you’ve completely lost the plot. Maybe you’re just unable to keep up?

Re: Devlin - He’s right. I’ve clearly said as much. It’s now 13 games without a goal. One of several UNH personnel examples as to why your recent contributions to this thread have been both asinine and boring…

I can’t imagine why Souza doesn’t see the value in hosting a strategy session to hear your input!

I had a dream that UNH went 4-2 down the stretch and moved up to 9th in HE at 7-14-3 and 15-15-4 overall. They beat Merrimack (8th seed) at Merrimack in the play in. They upset BC (1 vs 8) in a wild one and Conmy gets a hat trick (Dan showers us with I told you so stats). They beat Maine in the Semis (and Spanky stops posting on here) and lose to BU in the Final. They get an at large bid to Manch-Vegas and...... I woke up:mad: (Forever Optimistic)!

Providence and UConn are 99.5 and 99 percent chance of making the tourney respectively, per CHN.
