UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Guess this is alumni weekend. Heard there are quite a few alum returning and that there's even a game at 1 Sat? Don't quote me...

Reading the recent UL article this week team has committed themselves to the task of beating the other 'Cats.

Heres hoping! HR's predicts

FRI UNH 3 UVM1. SAT UNh 2 UVM 0

Very optimistic prediction. But if you are wrong, it is game, set, match, season over for our Cats.

I wonder what “committed themselves” means? And did you mean “week team” or “weak team”? :)

You could see Sardo's talent last season...it was mentioned on this board from time to time but oh yeah; he's definitely having a great season. And yeah, we
could've used him! Good luck to him!

Congrats to Alex Gagne and Ryan Conmy for their Hobey Baker nods! (As is Ohio State's Damian Carfagna)

Sardarian was the laziest player on the team, and wouldn't shoot the puck. He had a ton of talent but refused to use it. Constantly hooking, holding or just dogging it instead of getting in on the backcheck. Either he was unhappy or just didn't care. Glad he's thriving at Michigan Tech, but I don't see coaching as his problem, I see the lack of heart while he was here. Just my opinion. Maybe the Latvians threatened him!

Feeling good about UNH's chances against Vermont. Lets get 6 points and out of the basement in Hockey East. Still on the Fire Souza train, but lets celebrate being the favorites for one more weekend and good vibes at the whit. I'll be there Saturday.

Also, it seemed like Sardarian’a efforts dropped off dramatically in the second half of the season. After playing on the left side of the second line the first few games of last season, he got moved up to the first line when Devlin got injured. But by mid-season, Sardarian had been demoted to the third and fourth lines and did not play in a few games. I did not think that his 7 goals and 7 assists were all that remarkable for a second year player. However, maybe Sardarian’s and Blaisdell’s contributions to the offense were more important than I realized, as I do not know how else to explain the dramatic drop off in the team’s goal scoring this season.

Love this! If they continue to play like they did at BU last weekend, they will sweep, putting them on track for a huge game next weekend (I guess every game is huge from this point on :(). Looking to grab one of those auction alternate jerseys!!! (Forever optimistic!)

BTW for those in NH, NHPBS will be airing GOLDEN: The Hobey Baker Story as part of its From the Vault series celebrating the station's 65th anniversary. It will air on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 8:30 pm on NHPBS and on Monday February 3, 2025 at 3 pm. Longtime UNH Fans might recognize the lone skater on the pond.

Just set my DVR, thanks Linda!

I'm still not believing in Sardarian, but I certainly think Blaisdell was a hell of a leader and motivated everyone through his work ethic. I don't think anyone gave more to that team than Harrison. The goal scoring this year is really odd, lot's of good chances, mostly the same guys and they're just not going in. The D was supposed to be the strength though and they have given up way too many quality shots. Hopefully tonight starts a nice stretch run!

Yup, I was impressed with Blaisdell’s break out fifth season with 11 goals, which I now think are much missed this season.

Unfortunately, I think that this weekend has doom written all over it.

Earth to UNH..you can't win a game with 21 penalty mins and decide to take the 2nd and most of the 3rd off. Pathetic and undisciplined.

Ugh awful 2nd period...terrible D coverage. 7 penalties with 1 major. Gotta step it up in the 3rd.

I am going to do some stats digging tonight, but that major is BS. Hockey is a contact sport, you put yourself in a position to get hit things happens. Hockey is so soft.

I was going to do a deep dive into the stats for the year, but the easier route to take is this team is what it is, last in HE. I won't dwell on the major because it is a BS call, the player put himself into a position that produced the result. MS7 has lost this team. Devlin being lazy hacks a guy and we lose a PP again, 5th straight game where we gave up a PP with a penalty.

This team sits at 10-9-3, 2-8-2 in HE. So 20 wins is impossible, can anyone find a win the rest of the year?

VT has nothing to lose tomorrow so they will play loose.

So what we have now is...

VT Home:
BU Away:
BC Home:
MC Home:
ME Away x 2:
UMass H and A:
BC H and A:
Lowell H and A:

Best case is you win tomorrow and MC at home. That puts you at 4-17-2 in the conference and 12-18-3 overall.

Maybe you get a UMass and Lowell win at home, but there is no path to 10 wins in 12 games.

103 in penalty minutes during the losing streak. 4 majors and 5 games in a row where we have taken a penalty on a PP. We had 126 of penalty minutes in 17 games prior.

I have sent the AD and coach an email to see if they are willing to meet after the game tomorrow for a Q&A session. I have zero expectations I will get a response or it will happen but the worst they can say is no.

That's just it...they didnt play like last weekend...at least not in the second and most of the.rest of the game. This is the disappointing part. Outskated...penalties...

Who's gonna show up tonight?
