UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Barr isn't a good example of the bolded/italic. You're quoting his SECOND contract. He came to Maine for a salary less than 260k...

https://www.bangordailynews.com/202...h-barr-receives-four-year-contract-extension/

UNH could certainly 'bring in a high caliber coach' - whether they'd take a significant step to prevent him being poached after proven success would be a more relevant question based on your information. Personally, I'd be thrilled with either Souza or 'the next guy' establishing some proven success. Ill worry about whether UNH needs to pay up on a second contract or make a second-consecutive strong hire at that time...

That's all well and good....but $450K is the new reality.

$450K is the new reality.

For a second/established coaching contract.

You’re making an apples and oranges comparison. UNH can worry about the reality of a second contract for a proven coach when they get there. That is not the going rate for an up and coming assistant getting their first opportunity - as proven by Maine hiring Barr for well under 300k…

The last time UNH had such a coach they paid him as the highest paid employee in the entire state (with a near 400k salary a decade ago); there is no reason to doubt they’d reward a successful coach similarly today…

If the time comes, DiMichel, Dumais, successful USHL/AHA/ECAC coach would not command 450k for a first contract in HE.

You have my permission to revel in Maine blowing past UNH on the ice, there is no need to create unfounded hypotheticals. Your program is presently far better. As a result of a 250k coaching hire. I’m jealous…

Good luck with your next $250K coach!

From live box in CHN, appears that UNH played better in first period s afternoon last night.

UNH women up 2-1 over UVM Catamounts at the Whitt and in NESN good commentators.

Like bobcats, catamounts are also wildcats, but not all wildcats are bobcats or catamounts. You are welcome. — Marlon

Much better...sitting behind goal keepers doing a great job...some close calls but this is a much better effort!!!

Go 'Cats!

Go 'Cats!

Without the Ontario twins in the game, essentially the same team as last season, minus Jensen still on the shelf, and new goaltenders. With LeClerc on third line, this team has good forward depth, minus the incompetent fourth line.

Yeah, so agreed, need to wait until season’s end before getting excited about HC buyout talks.

EDIT: Happy that our Cats made your drive home this evening more pleasant, HR. :)

Jaysus. Seen this movie before. Nice bounce back win. The Q crew is still insufferable though. Onto the next wannabe.

Well done Wildcats! Playing tough in the end to secure the W! Nice bounce back win...much better preparedness and a full 60.

Good luck with your next $250K coach!

As Dan has repeatedly pointed out ... UMaine seems to have done pretty well with their $250K head coach. And if Ben Barr hadn't managed to turn your program around in short order, he'd either still be one (a la Souza) OR he'd be gone. Pretty simple to grasp logically, it's not like Barr's success has raised the floor for HEA coaching mediocrity.

In other news ... gotta watch the tape on tonight's bounce-back effort. Apparently my faith in the Champs of October securing an early split has been affirmed. groovy, you nailed it - "big games" in October lol! Lucky us, eh?

Yup, and your Black Bears’ visit to the Whitt last February is what likely more than anything else got MS7 his contract extension. Thanks a lot.

I don't know what will be more disturbing. Him hanging around after this year..or Maine being top 5 in the country and losing to UNH for their single game at the Whitt in November 7 to 2. Then MS7 gets a 2 year extension with a raise. Afterwards in February UNH getting swept in Orono by a combined score of 15 to 1. MS7 is fired and the donors have to eat all the costs of the premature raise.

Crazier things have happened lol

Want to give.credence to your point about last nights line up. Still early in the season for all teams and really think UNH coaching staff made the right choices. Thinking too Cy had something to prove getting himself back in the line up.

As you pointed out that 3rd line provided 2 of our 3 goals (the JP Turner goal was a beauty...happened on our end and we saw the whole thing develop just awesome)

That said things could change based on practice/player development but whatever works! And yeah the.drive home today was even better coming home with a W.

Despite Fridays mess still think Jared Whale is doing very well. Onto Province (lol).

This sounds disturbingly possible!

More disturbing for whom, gooverider? For you, I would hope that you would find losing again at the Whitt this November by an even wider margin than your 5-2 and 6-2 losses there last season more disturbing, especially for a top five team in the country.

As for MS7 getting a 2-year extension and a raise should the Cats beat the Black Bears again at the Whitt this November, MS7 already got a 3-year extension, presumably with a raise, at the end of last season, although there remains confusion about the details (i.e., is there a buyout clause, etc.?) until our in-house FOIA specialist here obtains a copy of the contract. But, if you mean MS7 might get a 2-year extension added to his 3-year extension, just for his team beating Maine again at the Whitt, yes, I would find that disturbing, and very surprising. :)

I'll take Things that are never gonna Happen for 400 Alex!

Watched the second Q game in its entirety last night, and I'll admit I feel a whole lot better than I did after the Friday night no-show. I still think the talent differential between the two teams is akin to a (now decent) ECHL team in UNH, and a (still decent) AHL team in Quinnipiac. But this time, the older team was playing to its strengths, taking the body early and often, and then getting a lead and never letting it go. The younger Q team no doubt had to be overconfident after Friday, and that is how 39 game home unbeaten-in-regulation streaks fall by the wayside. There's still a long way to go, but with almost everyone back in the line-up (and the MacPhersons notably both out) it looked a lot more like last year's team did. And while 2-1-1 isn't "Champs of October" form, it was nice to finally see a semblance of last season's team back in action Saturday afternoon/evening.

Former Bentley president Gloria Cordes Larson’s husband said publicly once that he thought the grounds were overly manicured. :)

But speaking of Bentley, the Falcons hosted LIU for two games weekend before last that resulted in a 1-1 tie and a 3-1 win for the home team. We opened our season by squeaking out a 1-0 ot win against the Falcons. Beware of the Sharks weekend after next.
