UNH 2018 Offseason- Out with the old , in with the semi new?

Re: UNH 2018 Offseason- Out with the old , in with the semi new?

Nope. You turned a simple longevity conversation into a talent conversation and took your usual gutless keyboard-jockey shot at a player with a 12-year-and-counting NHL career.

You seem to be a very sensitive sort, 'dc. Saying that Winnik and Langway don't belong in the same conversation is a "shot" at the former in your universe, I guess? I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest if Winnik himself read the comment, he probably wouldn't give a crap, and might even agree. I'm also going to guess that if Snively65 took offense, he would have no problem telling me to stick it where the sun don't shine. But right now, there's only you, trying to gin up some faux outrage.

You don't need to try to cloak yourself in some bogus, virtue-signaling posture to justify your dislike of me; I can handle it, and I'm not hiding. I am, however, laughing my proverbial ***** off at (not with) you over the irony of someone posting under a pseudonym, referring to someone else not using a pseudonym as "gutless". Keep working at your SJW black belt, 'dc. :) :D

Re: UNH 2018 Offseason- Out with the old , in with the semi new?

I am disappointed that no one yet has questioned my suggestion five posts back that the Cats should spend more time on the PK and less time on the PP, which was triggered by Chuck's frustration with the SMT label under which the Cats have played the past few years (decades?). The PP worked great in the recent past when TyK and Pots were on the first unit, but more recently not so much. In contrast, last season our PK was awesome; who coaches that?

not to get on Chuck's bad side, but U.Mass and U.Conn (his favorite "they'll never do anything" children in Hockey East)

Hang in there, Snively. I'll turn the chicken droppings into chicken salad, and you'll back it all up with stats. :) ;)

Sounds good, Chuck. But, stats or no stats, in the dozen or so games I saw last year, the Cat's PK was frickin' awedome, but their PP not so much, especially the 5-3 PP.

Souza coached the PK if I have that correct. And I'd rather be on the attack more than on the defense. This season I imagine Coach G will be coaching the PK, Stewie the PP. It will be great to see Grasso back in that wing slot firing that shot. Until the goalie situation proves it self, we hope to score more goals than scored against...that said we have a good corp of D returning. I think we will see gains mid season, after opening up with a few W's hopefully early on. I do not forsee a 5-0 run tho...and as we know that wasn't a guarantee for anything down the road. I am still thinking we win 15 games. We'll see!

I'm not surprised UMass got some votes. Carvel is a decent coach and haven't they been bringing on some decent players as of late? What did we do with them last year; a win and a tie? Who woulda thunk it but things are changing down there. And they are changing here too. Bring it on 'Cats!!!

Hiding in plain sight, Chuckles. Have had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of HR, Aerman, eCat, and many others, including your lil buddy ‘65. (Who, by the way, I wasn’t defending - as anyone can see, he’s just a plain ol’ bad-*^*; I know, I’ve met him).

Trick is, that happens at hockey games. You know, the UNH kind? Come on down if you can get a night off from calling bingo at the VFW and I’ll be glad to debate you over a beer. And if you think I’m a SJW of any kind, you are sadly mistaken. In that regard, (and in a mutual affection for prog rock), we are probably quite similar.

If using your real name on a hockey board that 15 people read makes the man, well cowboy, let me be the first to call you Sheriff! And I’m not about to readjudicate the Winnik point, since we are clearly in two different debates, not uncommon with you. As Neil once said, plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.

Thanks for the compliment, DC; I will wear that label proudly anytime, anywhere. :-)

Hiding in plain sight, Chuckles.

Only my friends get to call me Chuckles. You? Well, you may call me "Sheriff" … :D

Has this really descended into a battle over whose friends' list is longer? Really???

I guess the irony of your "gutless" comment just was a little too complicated for you to figure out, eh?

I'm sure our paths will cross someday in real life, and I'm sure it will be sunshine & balloons when it happens. Unlike last night when someone apparently snuck onto the WIS Estate, and tried to set the shed on fire. The Effingwoods PD tried to track perp down on foot, but he quietly sped away in his Aston Martin, headed south. The authorities reported that during the foot chase, he could be heard saying, over and over, "I'm NOT a career 4th liner!!! I DO belong in the same discussion with Langway!!!"

I really didn't have the heart to bust him. Thank goodness only 15 or so folks read this stuff.

Sure, as an "outsider" I'll bite. I think it's always better to be shorthanded than on the power play so sure, they should spend more time on the PK. :D

Maybe the option to decline the penalty would work!
Edit: For those of you taking this suggestion literally, please temper your responses!

Lighten up Francis. Save that angst for us Mainuhs... we are the ones that really take pride in burning your shed/s. :)

Now see how unifying that can be... oh wait my work wasn't finished... dc cat, C'mon man!

Yeah, maybe I need to temper my position on preferring that the Cats spend more time on the PK than on the PP, as we were one of only five teams in Div 1 not to score a single shorty last season.

Curly: "But Moe I'm tempermental!" Moe: "Yeah. 10% temper and 90% mental!"

I'd go with Stempniak, if I had to choose. More skilled, faster, and played with B's (briefly) previously. Winnik is (a little) younger and bigger, but the B's already have plenty of what he's got. Both have their work cut out for them though, no doubt.

Figured I'd mention here that Henrik Zetterberg announced his retirement from the NHL over the weekend. He and Kronwall are really the last two links to the DRW dynasty years on either side of the turn of the century. DRW captains over the last 33 years have been Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg. Gonna be a big drop-off in the next "C" for sure. Nice piece from Mitch Albom on the end of an era …

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/...nrik-zetterberg-detroit-red-wings/1322170002/

FWIW, looks like Yzerman is leaving TBL after this season. The DRW diehards are now hoping he'll be returning to Hockeytown to turn things around like he did for Tampa. Even better, maybe he can get his former linemate Gerard Gallant from the LVK to take over behind the bench while he's at it?

Dare to dream, eh? :) Now, back to our regular UNH-related content ...

Stempniak playing well again tonight with a goal against the Dead Wings, so maybe has edge on Winnik for sticking with B's?

Re: UNH 2018 Offseason- Out with the old , in with the semi new?

Andrew Poturalski was assigned to the Checkers today. Doesn't mean he won't ever get a shot having a two way contract but he will start there.

Poturalski isn't going to stick 'til his two-way play develops to earn him more than a two-way contract.

But before anyone gets too worked up about "oh, it's Chuck taking another shot at Pots" … there's hope, and it's all possible. Martin St. Louis was stuck in the minors in the Calgary organization for the better part of his first three seasons, and it took two more mediocre seasons in Tampa Bay before he finally began to blossom (at age 27) into an impact player at the NHL level. Poturalski will be 25 early next year. Plus, St. Louis was a 4 year guy at UVM.

Can it still happen for AP? Sure, and for his sake, I hope it does. But the same flaw that was evident in his time at UNH is still holding him back at the next level. So far, he's looking more like the next Derek Bekar than the next MSL. But he's still young and as MSL (and others) proved, sometimes just a change of scenery can do the trick. Skills-wise, he has the talent - always has - but not to the point that he can be a top six forward on a contending NHL team. And he doesn't have the two-way game - yet - or size to give a similar team the faith to put him on a checking line. See Haydar, Darren.

If there is an area for concern, it's that he's in an organization that really isn't contending, and really could use some scoring punch up front. And other guys at AP's age (or younger) seem to be jumping ahead of him in the organizational depth chart.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Carolina deal him this year. Might be just what he needs at this point.

Like Warren Foegele. And, appears that TvR and Brett Pesce may be competing for the right side of third D pair.
