UND @ UAA, Oct 23-24

Re: UND @ UAA, Oct 23-24

Brian, that makes NO sense. No matter how much time was on the clock, when UAA had their CFB they lost the servies of 2 players for 5 minutes. When UND took theirs, the same should have happened. They should have lost the services of two players for the remaining 4 mnutes. Refs screwed up.
If there would have been more then 5 minutes remaining then they would have. There wasn't, so no one was NEEDED in the box. That's why Clark was in there. There was no screw up Suze...

Re: UND @ UAA, Oct 23-24

Refs won the game for sue. I blame the refs. And dirty sue fans with the sweep chant voodoo mojo.

maybe good as the Duncan Hines - Toe - O she era>? it's early in the season but I think it's the "fastest" looking sue team in awhile.

That is ridiculous, that Seawolves could have actually been penalized more than they were last night. The reason your team lost is that UND skated circles around them and beat the Seawolves to the puck all night.

I don't agree with the first part of your statement, UND could have been called for more penalties, they were holding and interferring all game. However, UAA lost simply because they played with NO passion (again), and UND was clearly the better team. The 3rd goal was clearly offside, our entire section yelled it as they came over the line. The linesmen (and I use that term loosely) in Anchorage are terrible.

Shyiak rags on the fans, saying the guys have more fun playing in rinks like Wisconsin and UND more than they do at home. I'm sure the fans in those rinks have a lot more fun than the Sully fans do as well. You want the fans, win! You want the fans, give them a quality product on the ice, and give the fans something to cheer about ... it will then happen.

Last, although Jonnie O was hung out to dry last night, it's time to give Bryce a chance. He is more athletic, handles the puck well, and is a third defenseman on the ice. Time to put the Michigan game behind us and give him a start.

Oh please

I don't think either team should've been called for more penalties. The game was tightly called as it was. UAA had 9 penalties to UND's 10.

Are there not many college hockey fans in Anchorage? The arena didn't look very full. Are there other sports that are more popular there that fill up the stands? Or will the stands fill up if they have a good season? Just wondering, for some reason I feel like Alaska would have a lot of college hockey fans. ???

Re: UND @ UAA, Oct 23-24

IMO I like the idea of rotating goalies. I think Dell played great last night, but I think Eidsness is a great goalie too. So I would like to see goalies rotating all season unless one starts messing up really bad. I did like how Dell stayed in position and didn't wander out of the net much. That always makes me nervous when goalies leave their net - like last weekend.

Alaska Anchorage is not your "typical" college. They don't have a lot of dorms, the arena is not on campus, and a lot of the student population is older and commutes.

During the pre-Aces days, UAA drew sell out crowds with standing room only. Even had a season ticket waiting list and a cable TV season ticket package for those who were on the list. When the Sully is full, it can be intimidating and loud.

Since UAA joined the WCHA, they have failed to make a splash in the league and have steadily lost their fan base. The pro team, (the Alaska Aces) having winning seasons, winning the Kelly Cup, and having Scotty Gomez come home to play during the NHL lock out have all taken a bite out of the UAA fan base. The economy is bad, and some people simply can't afford to do both the Aces and UAA (even the Aces attendance is down, and they are 5-0).

When they did get the Sully nearly full for UAA (last home game prior to last night), the team played uninspired hockey. It was hard for a 20 year season ticket holder like me to watch, I can't imagine how a new fan feels.

There are often highschool hockey games in a rink right next door, and much has been said about scheduling highschool games on other nights, but it hasn't happened yet.

All the guys need to do is play hard, win more than they lose, and give the fans good hard hitting, fast paced hockey ... and the fans will come back. But everyone wants to see a winner. You look at any college team that struggles in the win/loss category, and they have low attendance. It's simply a fact of life.

IC. Well, hopefully you can have a good season and get your fans to fill up the arena again. Tonight should be interesting to see if the Seawolves can bounce back and for us to see if our Sioux team can stay consistent. I would predict that it will be a much tougher game, just like last weekend was for us.

I visited Anchorage back around 1982 and loved the state. We saw Mount McKinley and it was unbelieveable. What a beautiful state! I really liked it around the Alyeska area and Seward too - visited the Bird House and put my old fishing license on the wall - cool place.

The Bird House. LOL. Ever have any of their famous dill pickles? (Smelled like ammonia and about took your breath away, they thought it was a fun joke to play on first time visitors!). Anyway, the Bird House burned down and is no longer around. It was one of a kind, to be sure!

The Bird House has been reconstructed in great detail at 'Koots. Even hired some of the old staff (Jan the bartender) to give it that authentic Bird House feel. AWESOME BLOODY'S!!! I go there every time Im in Anchorage(which hasnt been often enough lately!!!)...

Really? I wasn't aware of that. They don't have the slanted sawdust floor, do they?

Is 'Koots a place called Chilkoot Charlie's (or something like that). We went to that bar way back too. I still have the matchbook from there packed away somewhere. LOL. Also, we went to a restaurant in a basement of a building and it looked just like you were inside an old ship. dark wood, big ropes hanging, etc. I think it was called the Corsair. Very nice place with amazing food. (just some of my memories....)

That's too bad the Bird House burned down. Places like that are so much fun. I never had the pickles and sounds like it's a good thing I didn't have one. LOL. I would love to visit Alaska again sometime.

Yes they do!!! and the bar is tilted like after the big quake. And there are bras and underwear all over the walls just like the old place. It is in the Chilkoot Charlies bar extravaganza. Go, I recommend it

Re: UND @ UAA, Oct 23-24

Can someone explain something to me. When Parkinson took the 5 minute major and was kicked out of the game, Clark served the time in the penalty box. When a Sioux player took a major with 4 minutes left, he was kicked out of the game, but nobody served the penalty in the box. WHY NOT?

Maybe the referees realized by that time of game that it wouldn't be a power play anyway. :D

OK, that was really awful, and I apologize for even thinking it.

You never actually got to eat the pickles, the bar tender would say he had the best and put the jar up to your nose, then say "just smell that dill", and then the poor victim would almost fall off the back of their bar stool! LOL

Brian, BE NICE!
