UND @ SCSU: Didn't People Used To Protest This Series?

Re: UND @ SCSU: Didn't People Used To Protest This Series?

After further review.....

The goal with :31 left in the third looks like it actually should have counted. Hanowski indeed did kick it, but it hit his own stick and deflects in. If I can get the side angle video I will post. Here is a video that shows the view from above at about :57. Highlights.

It's the way it goes. Still a great weekend of hockey. We had plenty of other chances to tie the game and just couldn't get it done.

the wording from rule 6-18:

A goal shall not be allowed if the puck has been kicked or directed into
the goal off an attacking player’s skate or any body part. When in doubt,
goal shall be disallowed. A goal shall be allowed if a puck deflects off an
attacking player who is in the act of stopping. When administering this rule,
the puck must initially be legally propelled by a stick

If anything this kick falls under "when in doubt", which means the refs made the correct call. WCHA refs seldom do that.

Re: UND @ SCSU: Didn't People Used To Protest This Series?

Unfortunate how it's worded. Ed Hochuli would have counted it.

Upon further review, the puck was directed toward the net with a kicking motion. However, replay shows that the puck was kicked in the direction of a St. Cloud player's stick before it went into the net. Since that it our only replay camera, there is no indisputable evidence that the puck went off the skate and into the net without touching the stick first. The goal stands...tie game.

Looking at it again, it looks like Dell got a piece of the puck with his skate. I don't think Hanowski ever touches the puck with his own stick. If you watch the direction of the puck in slow motion, Hanowski kicks, then the puck goes past his stick without changing direction, then Dell gets a piece of the puck with his skate, which changes the direction of the puck. I suppose it is possible that Hanowski got a piece of it with his stick and the puck deflected up/down (but not left/right), but it sure doesn't look like it from that replay.

Given the top down view is the only replay they had available I don't fault them at all. I am still trying to get the side view that shows it going off Hanowski's stick.

I am really not angry about this at all. It was tough call. I would have loved for it to count, but I am obviously biased. Who knows. We could have lost in overtime all the same.

Here is the link to the video of the goal it's at the 56 second mark of the video, the over head showed that Hanowski kicked the puck in with his skate. http://youtu.be/QnWkRt5179A
