UND off season thread

Re: UND off season thread

Just the good players. UND typically keeps a few locals around to teach the Canadians how to pee in elevators, throw lawn mowers, goon up a handshake line, stuff like that.

Anything else would be uncivilized.

Re: UND off season thread

I see the "UND night" ticket package at the Twins game at Target Field tonight is sold out. Geez, apparently we even travel well to baseball games.

Really? I wonder how many more seats were sold compared to their average. The orioles can't be that big a draw.

They had a special UND ticket package. You got a UND hat with it. Also, some of the ticket price is turned over to the Alumni Association.

My guess is there was probably a limited number of tickets in that "package." I doubt it would top 5000 tickets.

Re: UND off season thread

Sounds like Karl Goehring is leaving UND for the NHL. I'm betting Jake Brandt will replace him as goalie coach.

Re: UND off season thread

It's great to hear that Trevor Olson is out pitching the program to fellow Duluth East players. I've always assumed it's like pulling teeth for UND to get a player out of Duluth East. Over and above the fact that you're dealing with Minnesota kids who frequently have some sort of loyalty to the U of M, and with UMD in the kid's back yard, I've never got the feeling that Mike Randolph is much of a fan of the UND program.

Donovan made it official Wednesday by giving his verbal commitment to head coach Brad Berry, choosing UND over offers from his hometown team, Minnesota Duluth, as well as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Omaha, RPI, Cornell, Western Michigan and Michigan Tech.

I think that would work well. I have been to that arena - very nice and the area around it is perfect for touristy stuff.

I agree. Nashville is a cool town and I would be up for going there again if UND happens to play there. Love their downtown scene and I'm not a big country western guy although there is different music in other bars.

Re: UND off season thread

It's great to see the local kids commit, but man Berry and the staff seem to have gone all in on the 15 year olds. By my count, from Heisenberg's site, it looks like there are at least nine recruits for the coming years who committed at age 15. I wish I had both the time and the inclination to track over the years the success, or lack of success, in recruiting 15 year old kids.

Re: UND off season thread

Neutral Zone star rankings on UND's last four recruits.

Bowen - 4.5

Kunz - 4.5

Donovan - 4.25

Kleven - 4.75

I don't have that answer but as food for thought the problem is so many programs and kids are dipping into that well these days. The question then becomes is a top end program like UND better or worse off by drawing a line in the sand on the age of the kid they offer higher than a lot of programs are willing to match. If such a program might miss out more in that regard you're possibly left with no choice. Fortunately for a program with UND's history of success they're probably a net benefactor in offering kids that young just as they are in most of the kids they recruit.

I'd like to see the NCAA issue an age limit on offers myself but my guess is most of the smaller programs would push hard against such a rule.
