UND Fighting Sioux vs. UM Wolverines

Re: UND Fighting Sioux vs. UM Wolverines

The Fighting Sioux really let me down!!! I can't stand Michigan and that communist enclave called Ann Arbor. I knew your offense was a little suspect when you scored only 3 goals on the 12th against the Huskies. Now you know a little bit what it feels like to be a MTU fan.

BTW, is Eaves' flight to Houghton today or tomorrow? :D

Eaves is staying in Madison, EADES isn't going to Houghton either!

Re: UND Fighting Sioux vs. UM Wolverines

I think part of Michigans problem was dealing with the PK's. Burlon was and still is out. Clare, walk on, played on the PK and though he had a few turnovers, so did some of the regular starters. Officiating really confused UM. I think it was Lynch that got called for "embellishment"?!?! Couldn't call diving because he didn't go down. Worst was the 'too many men'. One guy jumped on the ice as the other got to the bench. Neither played the puck or interfered with UND players. Red was very upset about that call. Late in the game a UM player blocked a shot in the chest and then dropped the puck and was able to clear the zone. The refs said he didn't drop it soon enough and had a faceoff in the M zone. Not more than a minute or 2 later a UND player grabbed the puck out of the air and dropped it, no call!?!

Just wanted to remind UND fans that Shawn Hunwick is a walk on. ANd not a regular walk on. The only reason he made the team is Red wanted his brother Matt Hunwick to come to Michigan.

Re: UND Fighting Sioux vs. UM Wolverines

Wait a minute, Matt Hunwick committed to Michigan long before Shawn did, no?

Having to kill a lot of penalties can definitely disrupt a team though.

Uh, yea...

This is rumor but the only reason Shawn was given a walk-on spot at first, other than Michigan needed a third-goalie, was that Matt asked Coach Berenson to give Shawn a roster spot. Thank God he did.

Once again, that's what I have heard. I don't know if it is true.

Matt finished his senior year in 2006-07, before Shawn even suited up in a Michigan uniform as a 3rd string goalie in 2007-08 behine Sauer and Hogan.

I'm as pleased as punch that you knocked off the Sioux but really? Not sure on the embellishment one, I didn't watch the play close enough but the too many men was completely called for. The Wolverine was leaving the ice and turned around to try to check a Sioux but missed. Then he left the ice.

The officiating was pretty one-sided all game. I honestly expected Michigan to spend a decent amount of time in the second half of the game on the PP because of make-up calls. It's even more amazing that Michigan won given what was being called on them, and what wasn't being called on the Sioux.

Re: UND Fighting Sioux vs. UM Wolverines

I haven't had a chance to get on here since thursday but here were my thoughts on the game...

Michigan did a great job defensively, and executed their game plan perfectly. North Dakota played fairly well, but despite having 40 shots on goal, only a few were high quality. I felt the Sioux were gripping their sticks a bit tight in the second, and I thought they were feeling the pressure a bit. I was a bit surprised with the officiating and felt the Sioux were given the benefit of the doubt a couple of times. Hunwick played very well, and if Michigan can play another defensive game like that tonight they will win.

Congratulations Michigan on a great game and win. I will be cheering for Duluth tonight, but good luck. Beating four WCHA teams would be a tremendous accomplishment.

(I apologize for any errors, as message was sent from phone)
